21 years ago we still remember the Hatfield rail crash! A Great North Eastern Railway (GNER) InterCity 225 train bound for Leeds had left London King's Cross at 12:10, and was travelling along the East Coast Main Line at approximately 115 mph (185 km/h) when it derailed south of Hatfield station at 12:23. The train was in the control of an experienced driver trainer accompanied by a trainee driver. It had been agreed at Kings Cross that the trainee would drive the 12:10 service to Leeds. The primary cause of the accident was later determined to be the left-hand rail fracturing as the train passed over it. The train travelled a further 1,000 yards (910 m) after derailment. The leading locomotive and the first two coaches remained upright and on the rails. All of the following coaches and the trailing Driving Van Trailer (DVT) were derailed, and the train set separated into three sections. The restaurant coach, the eighth vehicle in the set, overturned onto its side and struck an overhead line gantry after derailing, resulting in severe damage to the vehicle. The whole incident occurred in 17 seconds. Four passengers died in the accident and a further 33 were initially reported as injured, three seriously. The number of injured was later revised to over 70. Those who died were all in the restaurant coach. Still always a great Joy to watch these amazing rail video. Thank you 😃
Hatfield in Hertfordshire, scene of the rail crash many, many years ago. As you look at the track layout, I think the middle two are for the fast trains like Edinburgh and Hull and the outer tracks are the slow/calling stops services, probably as far as Stevenage or Cambridge. Moorgate station is in the City of London, a short walk from Liverpool Street where local trains terminate and depart.
Hatfield railway station serves the town of Hatfield in Hertfordshire, England. The station is managed by Great Northern. It is 17 miles 54 chains (28.4 km) measured from London King's Cross on the East Coast Main Line
@@StarlifeStudios also, it was a nice touch that the 365s had the NSE logo on the front. And let's take a moment to remember 4 people who sadly died in the Rail accident over here in 2000.

Hi Les, you may be right but I felt that the footbridge and end fence blocked my view somewhat. In the end, I opted for some fast action on the bend instead. Thanks for watching 😃
Hi David, about 4 years ago, the regulations changed with headlights meaning as long as they are bright enough and in a triangle formation, yellow fronts are not required. Older stock has grandfather rights and isn't affected by this so they can continue being used. I like a good yellow front, I think it makes the train look more appealling. 😃
@@StarlifeStudios Thanks for this. The only stock I see without flashes are the blue TPE things. The lack of flash makes them look foreign and I can't get used to it!
Is Great Northern keeping some Class 365s or will it be replaced if Great Northern inherits the Class 379 Electrostars from Greater Anglia or Class 387/3 from c2c. As some of the Gatwick Express Class 387/2s are on loan with Great Northern and some with GWR.
I miss the 365s it’s a pisstake that they were SCRAPPED, with only two in preservation 🤦🏾♂️.. they could’ve been leased to southeastern who already have very similar and identical class 465s/466s. The ECML has no variety anymore, just like rest of the UK the trains are all generic class 700/717s, crappy class 387s and the class 800x series which is everywhere.
The 365s were among the youngest of the Networkers to be scrapped. They were scrapped for two reasons: 1- they were no longer required due to COVID, the 387 fleet was sufficient for the non-peak services 2- The age of the fleet was causing issues with spares, the BREL motors are still cause SE issues today. The unfortunate truth is that a fleet of a lot of different units is hard to plan, hard to manage and creates a lot of issues when things go wrong, a uniform fleet is obviously better for the passenger and easier to operate. Thanks for your thoughts.
