Came from a Shoei Neotec and bought the Arai. Didn’t think there was anything better than the Shoei but I was wrong. The Arai fits super good (Shoei aswell btw) but difference for me was that it still was super comfortable after riding a full day. The venting was something that I noticed aswell that was really nice.
I have had one these helmets for about a year and I am torn on it. I wore my cycle gear brand old helmet for about 10 years and wanted to get something nicer. I tried on one of these and it felt amazing on my head. Everyone gave it great reviews. I waited a while because they aren’t cheap and I wanted to be sure I really wanted it. I finally pulled the trigger on one and I’m luke warm about it. I like the fit, feel, face shield, and it’s stability. I like being able to remove the shield and wear goggles on desert trips. I don’t like the weird howl it has over 30 MPH. I have figured out it comes from underneath the ear area. It sounds like being in a jet engine and I can only get rid of it when standing. I think if I had a fairing it wouldn’t be an issue. Even with ear plugs, it is very loud and hard to ignore. The other main complaint I have has to do with the strap and buckle. The “D” ring side is short and is hard to fasten, especially with gloves on. The rings basically hit the shell and you can’t get your fingers in there. If you’re able, try a friends on a ride first. It’s a lot of money for a helmet you might be so so about.
The whistle is caused from the front intake vent on the very top of the helmet. Mine does the same thing but a small piece of electrical tape on each button on the vent has stopped the howl.
The noise issue for me was due to resonance. Basically, the shell is stiff, and wind noise gets passed onto your skull via resonance, so even earplugs will not help all that much. I solved it by stiffening the peak itself (I added a strip of wheel weights under the peak, so it wouldn't flutter at high speed), and by carving out deeper ear pockets (I carved the foam layers). This solved it for me, because my ears and earplugs are not pressed against the foam/shell as much anymore. Now I can comfortably ride at high speed with my shitty ADV bike windshield. Doing this probably dropped at least 10-15dB, making a huge difference in comfort. Only drawback is that my speakers are now further from my ears, which means I have to increase their volume if I want to hear my music, but I'll take muted music over unbearable noise any time of the day. I now also have the option to use earplug speakers if I want.
Bought this as my first motorcycle helmet ever. Best thing I ever put on my head. Coming from mountain biking, and riding with full face helmets a little bit - this is whole different beast. Heavier, but it is so supremely comfortable. It's quite a tight squeeze to put it on and take it off especially, but I attribute it to my large ears. Many other helmets would catch my ears and they'd stay basically folded inside the helmet unless I awkwardly shuffled helmet on my head. But in this everything falls into place as soon as it's fully on, and it's like a glove for my head. Love all the air venting. I got the black one, but due to all kinds of air flow being in the sun doesn't feel like it's baking my head if you're moving at least a little bit.
Love my XD4.It's so comfortable which is exactly what you want all day in the saddle. And this video has taught me a few things I didn't know like the bottom air cowl is to pull hot air out of the helmet. And here I thought it was to block the wind heh.
The XD-4 has been my favorite helmet but there are a couple improvements that I would appreciate. One more detent to crack open the shield in cold air. I’m going to disagree with what Chase said about cracking the shield open, it won’t stay cracked open. One more detent to have the shield cracked open please. The second improvement I would appreciate would be another 1/2” to 1” of length on the DD rings to operate the system better. Other than those two areas, the XD-4 is amazing to wear, great field of vision, comfortable, good air flow/control and quiet for a dual sport/adv helmet with a visor.
the Tour Cross 5 (XD-5) was just release by Arai Japan FYI - fingers cross they're out on the global market soon and there are some run-out XD-4's going cheap
Very good review video. Now for the winging. 1. Your website doesn't seem to allow for searching by head shape. To me this is just as important as size. Revzilla does it. 2. Arai - would you please make a long oval ADV helmet. I've been an Arai guy for ages but ever since Bruce corrected my fit at the 2013 Laguna Seca MotoGP, long oval 2XL, I will never buy the wrong helmet again. My current Signet-X is perfect. My current XD4 leaves a big red pressure point on my forehead, it's painful.
I have a helmet like this My problem with the helmet is The front is very close to the lips My size is 59.60 it sits on my head relatively well But the front of the helmet really touches the mouth I tried a bigger size and it was already too big I only realized this after a few rides It really sucks
All good until morning sun hits you straight in your face and that peak is non adjustable. Isn’t this a bit crappy when everything else is 5 stars with this helmet ?
One issue I have had with helmets with visors is the air that comes over the windshield can cause buffeting. How does this helmet work better then others ?
I have one and it whistles. Super annoying and I haven’t solved it yet. I don’t use it much (only on my KTM 500 on random DS rides) but think I’m going to try putting foam under the peak. Anyone have this issue?
Does anyone know what cheek pads come in the xs small Arai XD4 helmet? I need thicker pads than what it came with. I wore it 8 hrs and the pad are too loose now. I didn't notice Arai had an xx small in this helmet, that might have fit better. I'm hoping replacement pads will make it safer/useable longer.
@@dyl940 All depends on your fit and type of riding. The XD4 isnt a bad helmet. I still run mine as my street/Adv helmet. For dual sporting I use a Bell Moto 9s Flex. In the Arai, I have to wear ear plugs, even going down the road for a few miles whereas my old Shoei RF1200 I could commute around town and it was really quiet. I only wore ear plugs for sustained freeway speeds. Incredible helmet. If you are doing mainly Adv riding with little technical trail, I'd recommend the Shoei Hornet X2. That's a helmet that you can run with no ear plugs for the slower stuff, like doing sections of BDRs and such but it wouldnt be my dual sporting suggestion. If you want a do everything helmet, the XD4 might be it. I ran it dual sporting and touring. Just a heads up, I believe they are releasing the XD5 in 2024. Google it, you should get some hits.

Is it possible to drink or eat with the helmet on?
No its possible, because is not a modular helmet@@bikedawg The modular helmet allow to open the front visor so you can eat or drink or smoke o talk.
Looking forward to the XD5 in 2024. Saw a YT clip of one at a bike expo in Europe

Arai does make some high quality gear. Thanks for letting us know your thoughts and we're glad you're loving the helmet!

@@NorthWestMotos I thought so for a while too but those don’t make much noise. The noise mine makes is more of a jet engine in full afterburner.

yes, they are over rated
I had the same noise I found all I had to do is move the vizier a slight bit and it stopped.

We're stoked you're liking your new Arai! Thank you for the feedback.
Sweet! Planning on getting the Honda CRF300LS and that center helmet matches it perfectly! It's meant to be. 🥳

The new ADV Arai Helmet is presented tomorrow, the TOUR-Cross V
Both European and US sites have the old one, do you have any link?

XD4's visor is not optically correct in the center.
how was this xd4 perform when its raining?

Tribute to the algorithm
🙌🙌
Just wondering how you wash the liner?
I have a XD4 and I was wondering what googles fit?
I am hoping the fox Vue will work.
My Oakley Airbrake googles are tight but the Crowbar google fits well. No need to remove the shield if you don't want to.
100% Accuri work.
So what if you have 2 helmets that dont fit? Do you have to pay or you cant return it?
So you purchased two helmets at the same time and need to return both? Are you wanting to exchange them for a different helmet/size?
Email Returns@rockymountainatv.com and they can help you start a return.
I have read that this helmet doesn't have provisions for speakers for an intercom system. Is this true?
No. Running a Sena 20s and 50s comms with the speakers fitted in the spot made for them In my XD4 helmets
Is a Pin lock shield Available for the Ari XD4?
No
Yes, I have one.
Yes. It was supplied with the helmet when I purchased new.
Mine too. @@Chris_Z.
Do they make a pin lock shield?
Yes, and in multiple tints

One guy said that he adjusted it until he found a sweet spot where it stopped whistling. But, it’s obviously a major complaint.

The XS comes with 20mm cheek pads.
@@rmatvmc If I order the 35mm replacements would that fit in the xs shell and tighten the fit. TY
Lets be serious, this is a loud helmet and the chin curtain doesnt do a thing. The face shield is not optically correct.
What helmet do you recommend then? I am looking for a good dual sport helmet
