I could not have said it better, @RoseBaker! I love Alton Brown's shows for the same reason as Hollis and Nancy's Homestead videos: he explains WHY it works as well as having awesome designs!
Good Day @Hollis,Nancy & Bing-Bing... Yes, I recall those containers.. Bring It On Hollis, we're ready to see your marvelous work & sketches as well. Blessings to you all.
My husband just found y’alls channel and we are binge watching every garden videos. Lol. We’re starting our first garden this year and we’re so excited! ❤️
Good Lord, you are a marvel, Hollis and Nancy. I find this video so fun to watch as well as the artistic touches of adding music and fast motion. Marvelous! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕
Quick suggestion: when you have construction videos like this, it might be helpful to start the video with a brief intro of you showing us the final product. I know for me, seeing it constructed first will better help me contextualize what you’re talking about when you walk us through the measurements and intent with the build. You guys are amazing for sharing so much with us. Sending extra cuddles to the pup!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us! I’m about to start some sweet potatoes in giant tubs. My husband thought they were too big of tubs but I told him “That’s how Hollis and Nancy do it!” 😁
I really appreciate the time you take to do these videos for us. I was able to build one of your 5 gallon bucket tables and will have a 2nd built tomorrow
If you sink those 4x4s a couple feet, and bracket a cattle panel on one side....You could trellis those tomatoes and withstand substantial winds. Awesome build...as usual! I'm going to build so many of your ideas...so many. :D
My dad was an engineer and he used to make drawings that looked a lot like yours. Where you also an engineer? I really appreciate your teachings and videos. The Lord has blessed you and through you, us. Thank you, Alex
I finally made this table from your plans! I bought the wood and had it cut at Home Depot. Today I put it all together! Took me a long time cuz this old lady is no spring chicken, but I did it! I may make a couple more of them, after my back stops hurting. 😂 Thank you very, very much for sharing so much of what you do, and in such detail with your plans! Good health and happiness always!
@@juliepoolie5494 it was well worth the effort. Eventually I made two more of them. I plan to very carefully modify the plan in order to make the same type of grow table, but wider, to fit bigger containers. Hollis has other projects, in case you weren't aware. Look them up under grow tables on their Channel . Even if you don't make them, they are very cool, and it's awesome to watch the building of them.
Blessings beloved Hollys and Nancy, I really really like this design!! Thank God for your lives!! I will save the design for when I move out of the appartment to a house with a backyard. I'm praying for that because I am gardening from a balcony and I wish to grow other veggies and I can't. Keep posting plans like this one. Love in Christ our Lord!! Martha
I just found your channel. Thank you for putting this information out. I was raised in rural Alabama and my grandmother tried to teach me a lot of things about growing our own food. I remember some of it but over the years I lost a lot of that information becoming to self reliant on the local grocery store. With all that is going on in the world, I realized that I need to be growing my own food. So i am brushing up growing skills. Thank you for all that you do sharing this. Prayers for you and your family.
Since your pandemic challenge video I’ve grown 5 containers of beautiful lettuce! 🤗 I’m harvesting the outer leaves for the first time tomorrow. I have onions in a bed too that are slowly coming along. I plan to plant some spring garlic this fall!
We really appreciate how detail oriented you are, it helps us who are engineer deficient to follow more efectively... really enjoy Nancy and doggys commentary too, she has a radiant smile... thank you and God bless you both!
Your videos are great. You are a very good teacher, Hollis. I like the idea of a container garden, because as I get older, the traditional "dig a row" method is harder and harder. Too much kneeling and bending, to be honest. But working out in the yard really does help to keep things moving, so I would like to try your method. For the past few summers, I have been growing herbs, greens, and tomatoes in pots on my large back porch. This summer, I would like to expand, perhaps to growing peppers and beans in buckets along the back of the garage. We have a huge problem with deer where I live (NW New Jersey). I know people who have a 10 foot fence, and the deer still jump right over. I wonder if these grow tables, properly positioned, would deter deer? They might not want to jump over a fence INTO a garden with these obstacles. Hmm... thinking.... ;) Anyway, your videos are an inspiration. I like the Bible verses at the end. So encouraging. Thank you for that. Also, your little dog is so adorable. Please hug him for me. So cute.
I asked my local bakery for buckets as you suggested in a different video and I got 19 of them!! 😊 I'm so excited to make these grow tables for next year. My buckets are just over 3 gallons so I'll have to make my tables a little smaller. Thank you for all your knowledge and love of sharing it. You and your wife are truly appreciated. ❤
Hi guys , I’ve been busy thanks to Hollis motivation. I’ve written before Mike Garcia from Miami ( a cancer patient 50% wheelchair ridden) well here are my tables so far
I admire everything you build and plant I enjoy your videos since I live on a small apt. love to see your wife and you to do amazing things with the help of nature and God thank you from Miami.
Quick to build, I put the first together in a couple hours. I put a retractable axel on one end and a coupler on the other end so, if needed, I can move them with my rider. I also used bolts to attach the 2" x 4"s to the ends so I can break them down for winter storage.
I built one of these grow tables yesterday and finished it up today (had to screw in bottom shelf boards). I am so pleased with how it turned out. I modified my table to make it a length of 7 ft because that is the length of wood I had on hand. It holds 4 buckets with plenty of room. I can’t wait to use it in my yard in the spring to plant some potatoes!! Thanks for the great detailed diagram and the excellent video on how to cut and assemble the table! My next project is going to be making a table with a sink like your quail/rabbit harvesting table. I will modify it a bit to fit in my area! I need to go pick up the lumber now.❤
I'll add my two cents -- begin with something. Like Nancy said, even one plant in a pot is better than not growing anything. A few summers ago, I started with herbs in pots on my back porch. I can't even describe how much I enjoyed growing those herbs. It was like a light bulb turned on, because for a few years I had stopped gardening -- I thought I was done, because I could not physically do all the digging and kneeling and bending of traditional gardening. But the pots on the porch brought me back to the joy of growing some of our food. It was so wonderful to go out there and bring in some fresh basil, fresh parsley, fresh dill, fresh chives, fresh cilantro, fresh lettuce, and so on. Our salads were amazing! The next summer, we added some flowers and tomatoes. This year, I would like to add peas, peppers, radishes, and beans. Maybe even potatoes, garlic, and squash, but I don't want to get overwhelmed. I might just grow squash on the compost heap, LOL. But seriously, start with a plant in a pot. Even if you can't (yet) build grow tables, you CAN put a plant (or seed) in a pot on a porch or sidewalk. There is some way that you can grow something, somewhere, and it really is worth it to start. HTH.
Hollis and Nancy, Thank you so much for all your videos - you are both indeed an inspiration. We ( my 86 year old mom and I) enjoy watching and learning from you both. My mom loved to garden when she was younger ( and prior to debilitating strokes almost 2 years ago), and she enjoys watching all your videos. God blessing on you both. Thank you for sharing your ad entires with us.
Love your videos! I don't know why it took me so long to find them, but I've got time now to get all caught up ;) I use 5-gal buckets and grow bags a lot on my urban farmstead. I get free pallets and make units from those to hold my buckets, bags, and sacks up off the ground and tip-proof. Just a railing about 6 to 10 inches above the support shelf is all it takes for me, even in the winds we get here in Texas. That free pallet wood lasts me between 3-6 years (if left unpainted) since I use bricks/pavers as footings for the legs. I even get compliments on how handsome and neat they look! Helps me utilize space that otherwise wouldn't be used for growing due to flooding, terrible soil, and extreme slope. They can even be moved and formed into windbreaks if I find the need. I adapted the design to a stair-step configuration and sized it down to make a more decorative unit to hold pretty pots of herbs, ornamentals and houseplants on vacation outdoors. I'm actually making one to put inside my chicken yard so I can swap out some plants that I grow just for them to snack on. Hoping to get some good photo ops from that set up! Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.
Hollis & Nancy, your channel really blesses my heart. I've moved to the North Georgia mountains and while we get plenty of rain, the ground is hard and quite rocky. Container gardening will probably work for me. Thank you for sharing your ideas! God bless you!
I live in mountains in PA..we have rocks & trees:) Excited to try to container garden but I’m concerned about getting enough sun. I’m wondering if I need a green house.
Hollis & Nancy's Homestead thank you so much! I think my back deck area gets that...it’s south west facing so I’m trying to figure that out too. Looking to build a chicken coop to have some hens. Our family of 8 goes through so much food. I know the Lord will provide but I’ve been seeing for years a “crisis” like this pandemic coming and we are doing what we can and God does give wisdom & provision but I believe we need to prepare so that we can bless others too:). I bought some herbs a month ago and put them in a window garden pot and sadly they did not survive 🤦🏻♀️🤣. It was parsley, basil & mint...i think I can keep chickens alive. Lol I have 6 kiddos so seem to do great at feeding people & our pets. Lol
You will do great once you get everything set up. I always recommend for folks starting a garden to get set up for the next growing season not the current one. So for you, spend your time focusing on getting your beds set up, a couple of grow tables for containers, a small chicken coop and plan to start a fall garden not a spring garden. Be proactive not reactive

PS make you up some noodle jug lines, very efficient way to get catfish.

I used to live in Virginia, Arlington Virginia that is, now in the State of Washington but I can't plant my Thai Basil n some other tropical herbs anymore, I have tried but it won't do well then died 😔
Sounds like it is too cool there. Have you tried to plant them later in the season?
I can't wait to start making these!! Thank you!!
They really made a difference in our container garden. I think you will like them
Awesome idea!
Great idea I will build one thanks I think I will add wheels to mine to help me move it around. Thanks
Hi Hollis & Nancy thank you so much for all of your videos. I enjoy them all the time. Very practical table. Enjoy your week, take care. XXX. for Bing Bing, too. 💛👵
Good job Hollis
Hollis, I appreciate your ideas and your methods, I cheated with my iPhone and took a screen shot of your drawing, now all I have to do is to bring it up, at the lumber yard, Thanks again, I was having a little trouble keeping my tomatoes from blowing over, this should do the trick. PS make you up some noodle jug lines, very efficient way to get catfish.
Yes sir, I have never tried that but it does look fun to do. We love fried catfish fillets
Love these. Mine were falling over too. Going to try to get hubby to make me some.
Thank you for all the advice and diagram of building my 5 gal. bucket grow table- just finished yesterday before the rain- it was a challenge for this old 73 yr. old but got er done! only had one clamp but it was a big help. Can't wait to get those buckets full and start planting.
Great job!
Could you use this grow table with 10 gallon grow bags? It would have to be built without the rails. Your thoughts?
Thanks Hollis and Nancy for your great videos they give me great ideas. God bless your family and our family's
Thanks for watching ❤️❤️🐶

Just completed 1 of 2. Thank you for sharing. I bought material from Facebook market from a torn down fence.
Very good video, thanks so much.
Do you see any issues with the 5 gallon buckets when temps in summer here are consistently over 100
