Medication does help, but my son is also schizophrenic and he refuses to take his medication. He says it makes him feel that something isn't right. It's a tough situation. That's a common reaction to medication. They feel the voices are normal for them, and I'm sure they miss them when they're gone. The big danger is suicide. I hope this elderly couple get some support, and Sasha will cooperate with treatment. Not all schizophrenics do.

According to Bessel Van Der Kolk, who wrote an amazing book called "The Body Keeps the Score", the majority of the Vietnam veterans he treated for PTSD didn't develop it because of the terrible things that they endured, but because of the terrible things they had done themselves. It is guilt that does the most damage.

In the US wallpaper used to be quite expensive and only wealthy people had it. I wonder if it was the same in Russia. Houses seem so cobbled together and decrepit and then I see the wallpaper. I'll never understand life anywhere but Sergei and his good heart make me feel better.
