Getting Fairy Rings unlocked after unlocking Barrows is my absolute favorite thing about Runescape. Once you complete a single goal you're presented with yet another quite quickly that enhances what you have already completed. So while making your own journey you also continue to build up your account. It's such an impressive and beautiful progression system.
Kinda reminds me of my own situation currently. Decided to finally pick my Slayer training back up after a pause. I put it on hold because I got an Elf tasks nd at the time the only elves I had available were the iorwerth camp ones. In other words, long walk from a bank, altar, anything really. So instead of using that, I went a nd completed Sheep herder, Roving Elves, and started Mourning's End 1 to unlock the little village in the south-east of the elf forest. Now I can slay elves and have a bank and altar 2-3 clicks away.
it's really funny too because - Alien spoiler warning - he already has access to the ancient magic canifis teleport but just never figured out how to make tablets (it's arguably rather tricky for ancients). a better option would be to unlock arceus spells.
I love how natural the progression is in the game and the videos. He knew the monster examine spell would help him go bossing so he unlocked that first. He knew he wanted to do barrows for better gear and nostalgia. He examined the brothers for the weakness and then wanted to get better mage gear. Then after a few kills at barrows he wanted to get a more efficient way to get back and keep killing so he looked around and found the fairy ring and now that’s his next priority. I love it all so much!

The lore around Barrows is really good. The strange icon kinda references RS3 as "the original plan" - but its being done differently in OSRS. I don't even want to tell you what storyline it links to because it starts linking everything together.
The miniquest, as well as Desert Treasure 2, are filled with references to RS3 lore that don't make any sense to someone that only played OS, I love it
more specifically, the strange icon (or Barrows Icon as its called) is used in a quest that unlocks a new prayer book. the quest and its prayers are not in OSRS and this is here as a hint that the storyline quests will go a different way later (which they now have)

The elemental weaknesses on monsters are an accuracy and damage increase against that monster. Project rebalance also increased the max hit of each tier of spells to be the original max of the highest spell of that tier you unlocked. So when you have the mage level for Fire Blast, all blast spells can hit the max hit of Fire Blast
@runakovacs4759 As much as Alien Food loves to rag on the old in-game quest guides for not telling the player anything, the game actually told to more back then than it does now. Nowadays the game pretty much expects you to read the newsposts and the Wiki to have an idea how the new things work while back then most things were explained in the game itself
@@exantiuse497 not really. For gameplay mechanics, the game explained nothing back then, it still explains nothing today. Nothing changed in that regard. Him ragging on quests is specifically about quests, not gameplay mechanics. The quests now are 10000000000x better than the originals and you can easily do them unguided. Many of the quests even give you free teleports or provide resources nearby to reduce travel time. Everything is properly documented in the quest log. The only things you'll get stuck on are puzzles which are meant to be puzzling and not easy, and potentially some boss fights but they are pretty straight forward. But for gameplay mechanics yes the game tells you nothing.
I absolutely love that you look at an item and go "It might not be the best, but... I want it." It's inspired me to go stop worrying so much about the meta and I'm enjoying the game again more than I have in a long time.
Im loving that I stumbled into this series. I was never a member when I played as a kid. Only became a member now. The world is so big and there's so much. Wanting to get through it all I do often just turn on the quest helper plug-in, but for the quests where I've heard the name and I know it's important I do it legit. I also choose to Ironman some things. I'd never make an Ironman account. But sometimes things are worth doing. For example when I learned I could use the grapple hook shortcuts, I didn't go to the GE and buy one. I fletched a mith xbow along with smiting the hook, all from raw materials. Now everytime I get to use one of those shortcuts, its so rewarding.
Im pretty sure if you go to the main map and hover your mouse cursor over them it tells you what the combination is. Im not 100% if you need to have already traveled there before it shows or not.
I don't know what it is about this game but I kind of love the lore and it's so awesome seeing someone discover it in such a natural sort of way. I always thought the barrows brothers were kind of interesting, despite us knowing basically next to nothing about them. They're barely characters, but they're cool.
I love the dedication to staying away from RuneScape media at all you probably don’t even know how many other creators are chatting about you but hopefully it just means you’ll have a solid career on the other end keep it up mate
Easily one of the best OSRS series of all time. This video has been incredibly satisfying to watch you discover that not only you doing the lunar questline was benefitial, but also how hard air spells hit as a result. The progression of this series is absolutely perfect. Love to see it P.S. - the Josh cameo was so good 😂
another awesome video. itll be nice seeing you get into some deeper quests. also theres a quest later in the series that speaks on who that guy with the barrows is.
The beautiful experience of OSRS progression on display here. Your past adventures help you do new ones, while there is other adventures you find out about that will make your current one easier. If you also search out the lore you find yourself deeply immersed in this world as if living in it.
There are definitely some great quality of life upgrades out there for a barrows run but I'm resisting the temptation to give even vague hints. Keep up the good work man!
I love how Alien Food finds himself caught in the classic RuneScape gameplay loop. I want to do X, but in order to do that I have to do Y quest, and in order to do that I have get level Z, etc. etc. UnlockScape is real, and I'm here for it.
I can't fully remember but I think the Barrows Brothers made a deal with Sliske of the Majarrat for strong powers in life, and fought on the Saradominist side. Once they died they were cursed to remain as evil servants. Something like that.
Finally all caught up after a couple weeks. Some amazing solves over the last few vids, albeit slightly frustrating to watch 😂 awesome vids mate, keep up the great work!
Monster examine was SO worth it! OMG never ever used that spell but its like a wiki entry in game! This series just showing us new ways to play. HEck yeah. Also nice JoshIsntGaming cameo :)
I've only just caught up after hearing j1mmy mention your series and have been binging it since. Just want to say that while the idea is good, it wouldn't be anywhere as entertaining if you didn't have the perfect attitude for it. It would be super easy to just succumb to irritation and complaining but instead the entire series feels so upbeat and focusing on the joy of accomplishing something rather than the struggle to get there. It really feels like a throwback to the sense of wonder the game used to give back in the day. All to say, love the series, love your approach, and have been thoroughly enjoying this "rediscovery" of the game I've spent so many hours playing
I don't remember which is better (probably Mystic, but maybe not), but you DID just get a Magic gear upgrade in the form of Lunar robes a couple episodes ago.
"Oh no, my cat's dyin'!" gets me every damn time. Also, the update the did to the magic system makes it so that the max hit of every tiered spell = the max hit of the highest spell of that tier that you are able to cast. So since you have Fire Blast unlocked your Wind Blast will hit just as hard as the Fire Blast can.
I don't know if anyone else answered, but the elemental weaknesses apply to both your max hit AND your accuracy. So even though Karil has a higher magic defense, you are getting a 50% accuracy boost using air spells.

The only things you'll get stuck on are puzzles which are meant to be puzzling and not easy, and potentially some boss fights but they are pretty straight forward.
But for gameplay mechanics yes the game tells you nothing.
Best OSRS content out there together with Settled and JoshIsn'tGaming imo, binged the entire series in three days. Good job brother
Love how your channel has grown and is one I hang out for week to week. You're doing great.
Ps you could always get the barrows book for the lore.
Easily my current fav runescape content creator. Keep up the top tier work!
*UI INTERFACE - USER INTERFACE INTERFACE* absolutely buckled me 😂😂
I absolutely love that you look at an item and go "It might not be the best, but... I want it." It's inspired me to go stop worrying so much about the meta and I'm enjoying the game again more than I have in a long time.
Started about 2 weeks ago and I'm now caught up, great job with this series. Can't wait for the next one!
I love learning about this game even though ive been playing for 10 + years. Great stuff as usual
I pray this man remembers fairy rings for his own sanity
He’ll probably have to spend a couple hours trial and erroring and filling up a spreadsheet
There's only 64 combinations and they get saved to your interface when u use them
Im pretty sure if you go to the main map and hover your mouse cursor over them it tells you what the combination is. Im not 100% if you need to have already traveled there before it shows or not.
@@ThemanlymanStan That's a RuneLite plugin
This is the best osrs content on the entire internet
You’re too kind
I don't know what it is about this game but I kind of love the lore and it's so awesome seeing someone discover it in such a natural sort of way. I always thought the barrows brothers were kind of interesting, despite us knowing basically next to nothing about them. They're barely characters, but they're cool.
Part of the charm is that many details are left up to the imagination.
Love to see it
P.S. - the Josh cameo was so good 😂
So nice watching this after a long work week. Great way to unwind 😅
Such a great video! loved hearing the lore behind barrows, so much good stuff ive just skipped over for so long
Absolutely my favorite series I’m so glad I found it!
another awesome video. itll be nice seeing you get into some deeper quests. also theres a quest later in the series that speaks on who that guy with the barrows is.
Great use of the creator kit to tell the story. Loved it
First person in OSRS history to ever need NPC spell lol 😂Jimmy gave you a shoutout on the latest By Release 😊 Great to see the love!! 💜
I can't fully remember but I think the Barrows Brothers made a deal with Sliske of the Majarrat for strong powers in life, and fought on the Saradominist side. Once they died they were cursed to remain as evil servants. Something like that.
I swear to you, someone at Jagex went through and updated "Examine NPC" JUST for you. Whoever you are at Jagex, you're a legend
Finally caught up on the series, this is the first episode I'm watching on release!
Your excitement is so contagious, always makes me wanna login ❤
I looooove the ChunkYanille cameo. So cool seeing you guys collaborating!
Finally all caught up after a couple weeks. Some amazing solves over the last few vids, albeit slightly frustrating to watch 😂 awesome vids mate, keep up the great work!
Thanks so much for the support!
Omg the joshisntgaming cameo was amazing. Great video, just like always. Love your series.
Your videos are the best OSRS videos, keep it up!
Getting your house more built up would benefit in multiple unforeseen ways
Monster examine was SO worth it! OMG never ever used that spell but its like a wiki entry in game! This series just showing us new ways to play. HEck yeah. Also nice JoshIsntGaming cameo :)
loving the production value on the barrows lore mate, keep it up :)
Love the extra touches with editing on this one!
Thank you!
Dude when Josh came up with fun yanell facts I lost it. This and his series are my favorite.
just checking in on friday if you have uploaded :) see you next week !
Hopefully I can get it out a bit earlier than a whole week from now!
I don't remember which is better (probably Mystic, but maybe not), but you DID just get a Magic gear upgrade in the form of Lunar robes a couple episodes ago.
Your enthusiasm is so fucking infectious love your series so much
The B roll and production on these videos is getting incredible! Long way from the humble first episode.
LOVE THE SERIES!!!
That Josh jumpscare was hilarious 😂 you both are goated
4:22 Even after all these years, these are still some of my favorite armor sets in the entire game 🫡
I watch Alien Food on .25x speed just to savor the episode even more
I LOVED THE CAMIO! awesome video!
Perfect early birthday present. Still loving the series!
Unguided tonight and the summit tomorrow
Absolute w of a weekend
just when I thought this series couldn't get any better
I started weeks ago at episode one... I have now arrived to present day!
Hellou! lovely series you got there!
I don't know if anyone else answered, but the elemental weaknesses apply to both your max hit AND your accuracy.
So even though Karil has a higher magic defense, you are getting a 50% accuracy boost using air spells.
the barrows lore is sick never knew about all of that
Liked for the Yanille Chunk reference.
