  • In this video I show you the simple way us professional jewellers work on rings set with heat sensitive stones.
You do not need any expensive or special heat proof substances.
This technique is tried and tested many times over many years and has never let me down.
Before working on jewellery its essential you have at least some basic knowledge of precious gemstones and how they may react to heat, acid, shock, ultrasonicing etc to avoid causing accidental damage.
You learned something from this video?? Why not support the channel and help me share more of what I've learned from over 2 decades being a professional jeweller by becoming a patron or member.

Using water soaked paper is an excellent way to gauge temperature as the piece is heated. Easy to refresh with a dropper or misting bottle as well. The genius behind this solution is the simplicity and only a couple pennies in material. Bravo!

That's pretty much the same technic my mentor taught me. As long as that paper isn't on flames, the stones are safe

I usually fill one of the sections of my brass doming block with water and place/stand the ring head down into the water

Try using sponge . Just squeeze the sponge in the water and hold the ring with spring corn tongues .been doing it this way for 45 years never had a stone break.and you can use the same sponge again and again in the future.
