- In the series of Tribes of India presenting The Lyngngams of Meghalaya.
The Lyngngams are the sub-tribe of the Khasi people. Our ancestors told
that the Lyngngams came from Burma before 1200 A.D. The original
name of the lyngngams was 'Ingam' which the Garos call 'Megarm'.
But later on it changed to 'Langam' and 'Lyngngam'. The first village of the Lyngngam is Nongkulang which is still existing now in the South-West of the Khasi Hills near the border of Bangladesh.

Lyngngam language is of khasic type But lyngngam blood and culture are of mixed between khasi and garos....There is some of lyngngam practices which is not present in both khasi and garos like "Sorat",etc..."Im Slim kton Lngam hai rei myrriang se kton hynjong"✊👍
Lyngngams are interesting. You can see they have influence of both Khasi and Garo culture. As you can see at 10:11 the male dancer carries a sheild and a sword similar to the Nokma of Wangala Dance, and the female dancers dances like the female dancers in Nongkrem dance.
Let us unite together Lyngam and Garos

In Garo(A.chik) lyngams are known as Megam and also they took the titles as Megam Sangma or marak so on....but speak lyngams or megams same. ✌️

Lyngam is not a tribe they are a sub Tribe
Seems they are khasianized Garos. That is Garo tribe absorbed into khasic fold. Houses, dances, shifting cultivation, and physical features resembles more.with the Garos.

Actually lyngam are belongs to garos community but they take themselves as khasi.
Why is that so?
Because their dialects are similar to khasi
