I love the orange in the rear Davie. Every time I see a crane fly they’ve seemed to just finished feeding and have a bit of crimson under the surface in the thorax.

Absolutely brilliant design and tying, that has just got to work for a windy September day on the lochs. There are days when the wind is so high that it's impossible to see a dry daddy and pulling this one may well produce more than trying to fish a still fly. I can't wait to try this out, thanks Davie.

    A bit of fun indeed!
    Very nice, as always.
I can see how this would make a very effective fly for black bass.
    Time to get tying.

Last time I was fishing on Uist late in the season I saw a few of them getting blown on the Loch. Probably a good option for Dry fly fishing.

Interesting idea to put a muddler head on a cranefly pattern. It should float very well, and the legs, abdomen, and wings look great, but I wonder if the chunky profile would be too far off from that of a living cranefly to work effectively at fooling trout. I would love to read or see how well it works. I would definitely need more practice and patience tying those leg knots though. I have yet to get the hang of that technique despite trying to follow videos showing how to use tweezers or crochet hooks.
