Hi Davie, I tied this up after watching your video, but I only had grizzle hackles dyed blue and I was delighted with the outcome, hopefully this will do the business when I get a chance to fish them, I’ll need to get a few more tied up. Thanks for the video.Cheers Jimf
Don't know how I missed this one Davie...but an excellent fly. I've been tying up a box of flies for my niece and a lot of them are based on Zulus and Bibios For the hill lochs you can't beat them.
Very Nice Davie, I like this pattern too. Black and Red are two of my favorite colors. Thanx for sharing this this video with us. You Take Care. 🌴🎣🏄♂️Aloha🤙🏼
Great looking fly mate. That would be another killer one for brookies over and brown trout. You and your family have a great Christmas and new year my friend. Thanks for sharing another one with us. Best Regards, Ken
Thank you Ken and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes as well. I hope it fishes well for the Brookies for you and thanks for all the kind words throughout the year... All the very best Davie
Another great video. I would like to see a video of how to recover the fly when little things happen like the tackle breaking, tinsel unwinding, crooked wings and things like that.
Nice pattern Davie!! I like the grizzled hackle up front,I'll try a couple with Cree hackles and dyed red grizzled too and see if I have any luck with them on the small hill lochs. Merry Christmas and a very good new year Davie.
I've got to tie up some legs. I fish rivers and streams, but I fish a Bob upstream as an indicator for my spiders and softhackles. Thanks again and Merry Christmas! Thanks also from us ham fisted guys that break hackles all the time.
Thanks for this pattern Davie! I know you touched upon using this fly at the beginning of the season, but I was wondering if you could add some time to your videos to give more explanation of when, where and how to use your flies? Sometimes I am not sure whether your patterns are best for stillwaters, rivers etc and how you would fish the fly (depth, retrieve, liter length, etc.). For me, this would add a tonne of value! Anyhow, Merry Christmas and all the best in 2019 to you and your family!
Hi WiFi_, I would to do this but you would have to film this when fishing as it's much easier to explain, the problem is that I just don't get the time due to work..I'll see what I can do next season and hopefully get some footage with the way they can be fished...Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes... All the very best Davie...
@@DavieMcPhail thanks Davie. Any additional info would be great! Your videos are so instructive and the quality of your flies are top notch - for me the only missing piece is how to effectively fish them. I fish lakes profusely throughout May to November in British Columbia and have a good understanding of fishing tactics for your common lake flies (Chironomids, Mayflies, Caddis, leeches, Damsels, Dragons, Shrimp, water boatman, etc.) but have done very little river fishing so I shy away from tying anything that I might perceive as a river fly because I don't have the knowledge of how to fish them. I think with this information, I would be more likely to invest in the materials to tie these flies and actually give it a go. Conversely, I'm sure there are other fisherman who who may fish rivers and/or oceans but not lakes and feel the same way. I know there are other resources out there to teach this stuff however a single resource that says, hey, here's this fly, this is how you tie it and this is where, when and how you fish it, would be so amazing! Anyhow I know this would be more difficult for you to do, so I understand that it's not necessarily realistic to implement - and either way, you have my support as I love your videos!
Hi Davie If I had my choice Davie I would recommend you for a knighting ceremony you are so worthy of this honor you help others like myself so un selfless and helpful.
Hope you had a good time at Christmas Davie, really liked this fly must get my son Grant to try and make me up a couple and I’ll try them up in Caithness but still using one of your fly’s I think you tied about 50 for us years ago during the winter and it’s still doing the business it’s a sort of olive bumble with a great hackle so have a good New Year to you and your family 👍🎣🍺🏴
Hi Marshall, If I remember right I tyed you the Olive Sedge Hog Bumbles which was at one time a well kept secret as it became very popular with many that fished it..I'm sure this pattern would fish as well for you and your son..I did have a lovely Christmas thank you and Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you and your family... All the very best Davie...
Hi Davie I wanted to ask you a question and wasn't sure how to contact you, so I thought coming here was the best way. I was watching the Chalk Stream Chronicles and was wondering if you could demonstrate how George Marriott tired on dry fly wings. There is a description in the video that is hard for me to follow. Thank you Russell the maple syrup guy.
Hi Davie: Can you confirm whether multiple knots are tied on each PT fiber vs. just one? When all bunched together hard to tell. Thanks and Merry Christmas!!
