I love the old fashioned dresses and simple backdrop. So pretty! Nice ladies who are having fun together and not bourgeoisie. So refreshing!!
@lisabolo26 Thank you for your kind words:) We particularly loved our backdrop this year -- it was designed, hand dyed, and sewn by our dancer Ruby, who is multi-talented and so creative!
Real people dancing because they like to. I would rather watch them dance than the slickest production Bob Fosse ever created. Infectious fun. Thank you ladies.
@@planetc Thank you:) We're glad you liked it and appreciate hearing from you! Yes, we love clogging and love Old Time music and are glad to hear you can tell that from watching.
It's Traditional Dance...but it's also an Art Form. It's Beautiful.
@@Gary-oy1ji Thank you:) We're happy to hear that you enjoyed and appreciated it!
Delightful. So nice to see real people dancing. And doing a very good job, too.
@missc.murphy3494 Aww thank you for the sweet compliments! 😊
WOW! That was so great! I love it how they started out with the older woman dancing - and she is great by the way. Too often they seem to put us in the back. I wasn't aware of this type of dancing and it was so much fun to watch and the dancers looked like it took no effort at all, so relaxed and natural. Thank you for this!!
@sylviacarlson3561 Thanks for sharing your feedback:) That's Sheila Graziano, our Creative Director, Lead Choreographer, and Lead Dancer, who founded our group 20 years ago in 2004. She's 70 -- a talented dancer, choreographer, instructor, and performer! She received the Michigan Heritage Award, which is the highest honor in our state for traditional artists, and we're all so appreciative to learn from her.
Old time values and traditions on full view and displayed perfectly. Properly lovely.

Oh how wonderful it is to see community come together, to share culture, in a celebration of dance! City-slickers too 'high in the instep' couldn't pull this off if their lives depended on it! Blessed Be, and keep cloggin'! Thanks for sharing this affirmation of Faith.

Yeah because hillbilly tap dancing is so much harder than say ballet, swing, hip hop, ballroom, etc. Just to be clear I’m not disparaging the cloggers, they did a great job,my comment is directed to your asinine comment about other dancers being able to pull this off.

@sctsh1491 We have a lot of fun and genuinely like each other thankfully, so a lot to smile about even for those of us with stage fright 😀
This took place literally 5 minutes drive from my house in the States. It was an absolutely amazing weekend! I went last year as well. I’m Irish/Scottish, so you know I had a keen eye out for anything not fitting traditional Irish/Celtic things. They did a phenomenal job. Even had “Strawhenge” with photos and the history of Stonehenge posted. It was built with bales of hay and was brilliant fun. I’ll be sure to be back in the States for next year’s Festival!
@@Sorchia56 We hope it will be cooler next year!
Easy to see Appalachian dancing’s roots in Ireland.
@@kidavis3386 Yes, you have a good eye to notice the similarities. Appalachian clogging is a mixture of steps from Irish and other European immigrants who settled in Appalachia, combined with some steps from African and Indigenous dancing.
Impressive work, sew matching costumes, take it on the road!
@maryketter2227 Thank you! And I (one of the dancers) am hoping that we get some great dresses that swing well in the future that all match or are the same calico print in multiple colors. In past years we wore a matching store-bought dress, but it did not swing well. This year we just went with a blue color scheme.
@@CommonWealthDanceCollectiveYour blue color scheme works very nicely. I love those swinging skirts.

Possibly closer to you, you might like the Baltimore Old Time Music Festival, which I think has offered workshops some years -- you could email them to ask about their plans for next year:

If you head down to North Carolina, this looks fun, and there will be clogging and flatfooting workshops offered by Rodney Sutton of the Green Grass Cloggers:

Or bring your camper over to Michigan for Wheatland. There will be clogging and flatfooting workshops, as well as great music and dancing:
