For a daily trainer Seth said go with the Novablast 2 and for a cushioned long run shoe go with the MaxRoad 5 Depending on your needs and other shoes you have I think both could could be a daily trainer with the Novablast having the slight edge and being more versatile but for being light weight and value the MaxRoad 5 might be a good choice.
Kudos to you for reviewing the Skechers brand. More kudos to you for pointing out the hype in the Hoka brand and pointing out their lack of any real and substantial proprietary cushioning. They're charging a butt load for regular EVA, versus all the other brands (even Skechers), who are offering innovation and tech.
QD - Atreyu The Artist, I know you don’t like training in carbon shoes, but the plate doesn’t feel overly aggressive are firm. The midsole is soft and responsive and I think the upper is very comfortable for how unstructured it is. If you are a runner who needs support in the upper, I wouldn’t recommend. But for me Atreyu has made a fantastic shoe for a price point of $100, can’t beat it. I preordered my 2nd pair day 1 preorders opened up.
I agree with you on adding a couple more mm in the heel..I always add the heel 1/2 of a nike insole under any insole of any shoe with less than 5mm drop..it makes all of them run faster with less effort..inversely any shoe with 10mm or more drop starts causing knee and hip issues..8mm drop seems to be the sweet spot in all the shoes I use ,which is pretty much all of them..good review as always 👍
QD: Torrin 4.5 plush is my go to shoe; even with 600 miles on them currently. It's lightweight and has great stability through my gait process. It's also the most relaxing shoe I've tried and I work at a running store so I've tried a lot. But I haven't found a shoe feel quite as good as the torrin 4.5 plush
Agree, Torin 4.5 is a great comfortable shoe. I still need to get used to the zero drop, did a 32k long run in them and by the end my archilles tendons were feeling it! It’s nothing against the shoe though.
Great video, love the 8mm drop recommendation. That is a true in-depth review! I used to worry about what my neighbors thought of me but now I just do my runs each day and don’t worry about it!
Skechers are legit! So lightweight, great ride. I run on the Razor 3 and Speed TRL - I got them each for less than $70. The savvy shopper can find them for less than full price and they often take a huge price drop if you wait.
Don't mess with the 6mm drop! Cannot tolerate anything more than 6mm and anything higher will mess up the MaxRoad which is a great long run shoe (16+ miles). My first pair are over 450 miles (and still going) for a 165lb runner.
Sketchers being that soft cushion helped me when i was recovering from my plantar procedure. It was the only shoe that really made a difference. That being said, I’m back running and I’m a Saucony baby. But i will give this a shot. Thanks for the review

Clifton 6 for its beautiful balance of cushion and weight. 250 mi in them at 240 lbs and they're just about ready to retire and move on to the year old Clifton 7 I bought for $85
QD: Hoka Mach 4, reason just great shoe and I only have 3 shoes (trail Evo speedgoat, race Carbon X2). For my foot strike the drop is most important to be low (to keep the Achilles tendon in check) and Hoka has great durability for me +1000km region.
@@ChrisSee hi Chris, the Carbon X2 feels some what firmer then the Mach 4 but at speed the X2 feels great. I also had the carbon rockets, these are very responsive and little more harsh for long runs. For the marathon I would likely choose the rocket X.

They're just impossible to find in running stores to try on first. But, it's between these and the Nova blast for my next Daily Trainer/Long Run purchase.
Clifton 7s are at the end of usage. Was going replace the 7s with the Clifton 8s but after this review ordered the Maxroad 5s. Not as soft as the Cliftons but and set shoe. Glad I gave Skechers a try.
QD: I haven’t been able to do much more than 4-5 miles since I’m still working back from Achilles Tendinitis, but depending on if I want to pick up the pace I would go with the endorphin speed….slower pace I use the Rincon.

@@ericwhite80five Wow.. thanks for sharing. I have been dealing with it for a month now, but hoping to race Chicago in October... Quite worried after hearing a lot of people dealing with it for 5+ months... Hope you feel better soon
FYI the pods on the outsole cause hot spots for heavier runners. I have experienced them as have others who are bigger than you are Seth. They could easily change the outsole to something more like the Ride 9 outsole.
Saucony Speed 1 is currently my race day long run shoe which performed well in my half marathon race. No feet issues. I ordered pair of Skeechers MaxRoad 5 and waiting to try them on. I am hoping they will be my daily long run shoe.
Another great review; thank you. I wondered what that duck meant at one point in the video when the plate is mentioned. After my posts on Reddit, I think he's referring to the sound of the sole on an apartment floor that resembles the sound of the highlighted animal's cry. :)
Skechers has become my favorite running shoe brand thanks to the Razor Excess and the Max Road 5! I agree on the slight instability laterally, but actually chose the max road 5 shoe over my endorphin speeds to set a new 10mi and half marathon PR (6'59" pace and 7'09" pace). It was on a hilly course, so the level of cushioning actually helped a ton while pounding pavement on the downhills lol but they felt smooth going up too!
Over the Speed?! I was on the fence but I think this tipped me over the fence. I would assume Maxroad 5 to run slower than Speed 2? Because that's how I am going to use the shoe: For recovery and easy days, a complimentary shoe to the Speed 2. Would I be making the right decision?
Love it. Used Hoka for years and have wide feet so have to go up a size. Want to go and try these. do you think if I go up 1/2 size, it will be good for wider foot. Keep up the great work
Before you mentioned, was thinking the same thing being a better Clifton!! For whatever reason, sketchers are very expensive in Canada :(. QD: go to long run shoe is the Glycerin 19. It checks all the boxes for me: fit, comfort, durability, protection.
QOD: Nike Zoom X Invincible - Just soaks up the distance. Took a bit of getting used to as it was so squishy and a little cumbersome on foot but definitely worth persevering with, great shoe once you start to understand it.
Was Novablast then swapped to Glideride when Novablast got to 500 miles but have done the last few in my endorphin speeds. Legs feel so much fresher after my long run when using the speeds.
I bought a Maxroad 4 and I think it's a great shoe, better than the Maxroad 3 because of the new upper. But soon after I got the 4, Skechers released the Maxroad 5. I bought it. I think it is a wonderful, marvelous shoe. But, I really could not feel any difference between the 4 and the 5, although they say the 5 has this carbon-infused H shape plate.
@@ALAA-ch2un I am interested in trying the 5 for the higher stack and the H plate. The 4 can get the job done for sure. The upper of the 4 gets a lot of complaints, which I agree but does not bother me too much, it does get hot in warm weather. The heel counter was rubbing my heel in the beginning but good socks solved the problem. One complaint i have is as the midsole gets compressed overtime, the rocker on the right shoe will push on the tendon behind my big toe near the mid foot when I am running on a slope, which I think is specific to me since it only happens to my right foot. Conclusion if money is a issue, get the 4 and wait till the 5 goes on sale.
Good morning, my current long run shoe is the Nike ZoomFly 3 because my long run is only 10-12 miles. I’m looking forward to trying the Mach 4 and speed version 1
I would love a comparison between the Maxroad 5 and the Invincible Run. For sure the Maxroad looks more versatile, but It may be a good alternative for Easy dys, where in my opinion the Invincible is king
Long run on roads: NB 1080V10, on trails: HOKA Challenger ATR 5. Why? This is all I have but they both do well for me, though the HOKA does pound my feet a bit for longer trail runs like the 18k I did last weekend on the rocks and roots of my local trail.
The most annoying thing is when those rubber patches at the sole starts detaching. No point having Goodyear rubber but the glue is low quality. It is just like having the best tyres on your car but the whole wheel comes loose.
When road running do you run against the flow of traffic or with it? I’m looking to up my mileage for the upcoming Cross Country season and would appreciate any tips :)
Generally you run with traffic, easier for traffic to see what your doing when approaching cross streets, most reflective material is on back of shirts and running shoes
QD: Currently using the Saucony Endorphin Shift as my long run shoe, but after 850km, I need an upgrade. Waiting for the Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 release here in Australia.
QD: Rebel V2. Will try the Torin 5 any day now. Edit: The Torin 5 is also great and feels similar to the Rebel V2 - apart from the zero drop that brings you onto the forefoot even more.
QD: My go to long run shoe is the Saucony Speed. I daily Bondi 7s and that switch to a lighter more breathable shoes makes me feel like I'm cheating. I also feel that the plate fatigues my legs a bit also helps me keep rolling through those last few miles.
I don't understand.. yesterday you relegated the skechers gorun ride 9, while it has the same upper, same midsole, same weight, only few milimetres less stack height, and even cheaper price. The ride 9 is like a more stable version of maxroad 5. you are excited when talking about the upper and midsole here, but looked underwhelmed in the ride 9? They're the same in both shoes with only different design.. I'm seriously confused now.
QD: The go-to long-run shoe has to be the vaporfly next percent 2 it's just so reliable and it really helps me get over that mental barrier of knowing I have to run 12 miles this morning.
QD: Novablast. I got a pair because of the trampoline effect. But they're perfect for long runs too and compared to others shoes my legs after more than 20 km are fresh and ok like never before. Waiting for the version 2!
QD: My Novablast has worn out and I had intended to replace with the Ultraboost but returned those after one run. I thought the weight would be ok but the midfoot cage gave me blisters on the medial part of both feet! Thanks for making this video though Seth, I forgot that I had an unused Max Road 4 on the shelf and it appears very similar to the 5 so looks like I have a new candidate!
@@ALAA-ch2un not that I can see from the review. The midsole and outsole look the same. I don't think the upper is quite as good but it is still similar.
I generally was just convinced to pick these up. I'm definitely looking for something that high cushioned and flexible. Which seems hard to find these's days.
Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner! The Max Road line seems to be Skechers best line. The Mach 4 is still taking the cake at 8.72 but I have always wanted to get my casual, dress, walking, and running shoes all from Skechers as a one stop shop. The GoRun Ride 9 is a solid daily trainer though not a homerun judging from your review. The Razor line is the most confusing. They need to do less iterations/types and focus. Kofuzi remarked that line annoys him! Too many Razors is causing razor burn. Please, please Skechers get your shoes into retail at least at your very own retail outlets (which you do not!!!) I wish they would get into running stores so I can support my local running shoe store with that brand.

They're just impossible to find in running stores to try on first. But, it's between these and the Nova blast for my next Daily Trainer/Long Run purchase.
Don't do the Novabl. 1
QD: Asics Novablast. Bouncy, fun, and my feet and legs don't feel beat up in the last few miles of a long run.
QD: ASICS Glideride. Due to its high stack height, stability due to the plastic plate and good durability.
Asics novablast. They really helped me get over shin splints.
Clifton 7s are at the end of usage. Was going replace the 7s with the Clifton 8s but after this review ordered the Maxroad 5s. Not as soft as the Cliftons but and set shoe. Glad I gave Skechers a try.
QD: I have Novablast 1 and Hoka Mach 4. Somehow i prefer Novablast between these two. Can’t wait to get the Novablast2
QD: I haven’t been able to do much more than 4-5 miles since I’m still working back from Achilles Tendinitis, but depending on if I want to pick up the pace I would go with the endorphin speed….slower pace I use the Rincon.
Same.. Achilles Tendinitis really gets you.. Hope the recovery is going well. :) Also doing eccentric heel drops?
@@jenssudmeier6560 It was a long road of PT and no running and on to short walk run intervals. All said and done it took about ten months to finally get back to some steady running a couple months ago and it’s still iffy some days. Just hoping to get back to races this fall and back on track for a marathon next year👍🏻
@@ericwhite80five Wow.. thanks for sharing. I have been dealing with it for a month now, but hoping to race Chicago in October... Quite worried after hearing a lot of people dealing with it for 5+ months... Hope you feel better soon
@@jenssudmeier6560 thanks!….good luck in October 🤘🏻
HEAVY slow resistance workouts for Achilles issues. Thank me later!
Looks great, surprised you gave it a high score. Max road 4 was one of my fav shoes ever. I had two pairs and actually used them for two trail ultras.
QD: My favorite long run shoe is actually the Skechers GoRun Ride 7! It's just so plush, and I've taken it for a couple of 21milers
I love the shoes as well.
I am in the market for a plush, easy, long run shoe. Time to add skecher to the list of clifton, Nova Blast and invincible.
QD: Saucony Speed but also spend 450+ miles with MaxRoad 4 and I really enjoyed it! I second Seth’s review the MaxRoad series are great all arounders
I got these puppies. They are great responsive yet soft gems!!
FYI the pods on the outsole cause hot spots for heavier runners. I have experienced them as have others who are bigger than you are Seth. They could easily change the outsole to something more like the Ride 9 outsole.
It is a dopey sole system. NO reason to be so cute about it, when shoes like the Nimbus have soles that NEVER wear out.
Go to long run shoe for roads is the Ascis Gel Nimbus lite 2
For trails La Sportiva Karacal and I just ran a 108k in the Salomon Wildcross
Keep up the great work
Qd: Nike invincible run as it really helps save the legs on the long runs
But, I really could not feel any difference between the 4 and the 5, although they say the 5 has this carbon-infused H shape plate.
go to long run shoe: definitely the saucony endorphin speeeds. the plate feels a bit restrictive to the tired foot, but the energy return is awesome.
QD: Hoka Rincon! It is so lightweight and responsive. You can't not enjoy it.
I have both the Rincon 1 and maxroad4, I ran both to the ground. The hyperburst midsole is way more responsive in my experience
@@chadliu86 hey, the 4 is on sale right now! Would you recommended getting this one or the 5?
QD: ASICS Novablast like many others.
Good morning, my current long run shoe is the Nike ZoomFly 3 because my long run is only 10-12 miles. I’m looking forward to trying the Mach 4 and speed version 1
QOD: Clifton 7 but just ordered Max road 5. Can’t wait to give them a try. Seth you’re hard on the wallet 😂
Why don’t you use some kind of meter for the derometer test, just a suggestion. It will be more consistent that way across shoes
I run against it
Thank you!
Generally you run with traffic, easier for traffic to see what your doing when approaching cross streets, most reflective material is on back of shirts and running shoes
Definitely against traffic, you want to see what's coming at you incase you need to bail out of the way 👍
Bike with traffic. Run against it.
Another great review!
Seth, the older maxroad had complaints that people could feel the pods underfoot. I bet the plate is their way to prevent that.
QD: Asics Glideride (OG), and without a doubt I'll replace them with the Glideride 2 in a couple of months, when I hit 500 miles ;-)
Wish Sketchers had running shoes in South Africa.
The 4 is on sale right now! Does it had change a lot from 5? Feedback appreciate it....
@@ALAA-ch2un not that I can see from the review. The midsole and outsole look the same. I don't think the upper is quite as good but it is still similar.
I had the UB 19 and 21, and the both SUCKED. Sz 12 UB21 VERY lightly used for sale.
Asics Glideride original. Cushioning and heel stability on downhills.
Agreed!
I generally was just convinced to pick these up. I'm definitely looking for something that high cushioned and flexible. Which seems hard to find these's days.
QD: Skechers Razor Elite. Great long run shoe. Super light.
Thank you so much for this videos! The Skechers Max Road 5 seems to be out of stock. What would you recommend as a replacement?
Thanks!
Thank you for this super thanks!
Seth have you been posting on Strava since June 16th or is my app not updating properly?????????
QoD: either NB Fresh Foam (to baby my legs), or Endorphin Speed (for extended runs)
Footage of the Skechers store took me back
Winner!
I ran in these today. I enjoyed them.
As a heavier person I thought the version 4 was good shoe for up-tempo running as well; provided there weren't any tight turns
Seth would it work for a wide forefoot?
QOD: Still looking for mine (hence why I am watching this vid lol), but I used to use the original Rincon for long runs 18+! It felt light, smooth, comfortable, and perfect for long runs! Just hated the (lack of) durability :/
