How is that top plate acoustically treated?

It was shouted at at a rather high volume.

hamied elswifi my option isbollocks to that. “Just slide thenm on then they integrate, like little charging pods?, balls to that. That’s a cheap move to add atmos, from any manufacturer. At least klipsch did it right. Along with svs, add a module and wire and amplify it separately. Like adding separate speakers. This is crap.

For a new speaker anyway, why not just build atmos in, rather than charging the consumer more, later. “Oh these speakers are great” “But if you wanna
add atmos, just give us an extra....”whatever the shit it is converted anyway, klipsch did this right in my opinion. And you guys fucked up. I even believe the guy behind the camera was fucking laughing at you, believing the bullshit you were spitting.

Not sure who you're talking to, but I was the guy behind the camera, not in front of it, and I wasn't laughing at the manufacturer rep. There were other people at the launch event and I'm sure someone somewhere there said something funny. The video was to show how Def Tech supports upgrading their tower speakers from standard front firing stereo or traditional surround configurations to height-enabled immersive surround configurations by popping off the top and adding an optional upward firing Dolby Atmos speaker module. It's a pretty clever solution for that subset of speaker buyers who want to deploy a height-enabled immersive surround sound system. But I do disagree with just building Dolby Atmos into everything instead of offering it as an upgrade option. If you include extra speaker drivers, crossovers, and potentially amplification into every speaker you sell then you'll be charging your customers more for something they may never use or want. For example, KEF makes killer speaker systems. But if you want to do Dolby Atmos or DTS:X with KEF speakers, you need to buy separate height speakers and you need a receiver or processor that support DTS:X and/or Dolby Atmos.

Chris Boylan they should do an atmos tower, and a non atmos tower. Not a tower you have to take bits off to install another speaker, and the way it connects is ridiculous and I think may fail after some time. They are no doubt a great speaker, but the way they add a module is stupid.

Also, even though it’s a new technology, it’s already pretty old, with the likes of svs prime elevations, and many more options, top mounted atmos will be short lived.
