He passed away today so I had to watch this video again. What a lovely man. His songs have been part of my life for over 50 years and I'll never tire of them
There is nothing more soothing and enjoyable than taking a ride through the country listening to Gordon Lightfoot. Thank you Gordon for sharing your amazing talents with the world!
Grew up listening to Gordon Lightfoot's music on the 📻 radio. There will never be another come anywhere close to him, ever again. His music remains in my ❤ forever more. R.I.P. 🇨🇦's troubadour.
Such grace and humility. This guy is legendary and he just wants to keep working and taking care of his family responsibilities. I love being Canadian!
In winter 1981 , I was 18 years old and it was freezing cold. I was bored and walked in a department store. I had only 1 german Mark. I could not buy anything for it, but I saw a sign "Every cassette 1 Mark". So I checked all the tape cassettes. I found only singers that I did not know, including Gordon Lightfood.. I was thinking the guy looks friendly, so I bought it. And it was the best buy of my life! Since then, I am a big fan of this fine person! He made me many times happy! Thank you!
Just got back in the house from Gordon's Show at the Ryman in Nashville (My 10th time to see him). Oh my goodness - the MAN still has it. The voice not as strong, some higher notes have been dropped, but my goodness, what a musical/lyrical hero this gentleman is. Hard to believe I have been listening to him for 42 years now. WOW! Gordon, I love you man - God bless you!
Gordon, you will never know how much your music meant to me, a displaced Canadian girl in the middle of Africa in 1975 ... to come across your music and be reminded of home ... you will ALWAYS be my Canadian icon. I've been to 3 of your concerts, spanning 25 years ... I owned so many of your LPs I lost count. You're Canadian gold.
I simply love Gord....... and George, you're beyond words..... I still miss your show and am satisfied to watch old reruns of your gracious style ... Hope all is well in your world.
Thanks for keeping this posted up George. I watched your interviews for years when I lived in Lincoln Park on channel 9 in Windsor. (Writing this in Kraków Poland where I currently reside)-I passed GL driving with the top down in a red Corvette several decades ago in the Michigan Upper Penninsula. He was apparently after an appearance at the Whitefish Point Shipwreck Museum. For years the museum played his song on a loop for the visitors...I plan to go back to visit the states and the Soo-soon too! RIP Gordon.
Such a humble man,and a great sense of humor, god bless this legend,he brought alot of happiness to the whole world through his music, master story teller, and his musician skills are top notch
Hey, I was at that concert just the other day! Lightfoot is a living legend, and it was great to hear him in person at last. It wasn't totally sold-out, but there was still a good-sized crowd in attendance, and he was well-received.
Anyone who truly loves Gordon Lightfoot loves him at any age. He's still a fine man and a great performer. The years he shows are the worth of his life which is greater than most people's lives. I'll take age before beauty any day! He is still handsome to me! He's a good, kind man. He's done a lot for the families of the Edmund Fitzgerald. An older man often knows true value. Young men still have to learn this and it comes w/ experience which comes w/ time.
I have been able to see Gordon Lightfoot twice, one in the early 80's and just last week. He is a great singer and songwriter and I really love his songs. The box set is great. Hope he is able to keep touring for a long time to come.
I am currently living in the house he took piano lessons in as a child! Born and raised in Orillia, and I will always feel a strong connection to this man and his beautiful music. Keep goin Gord.
Love this man's body of work. I was supposed to meet him at a private event in Memphis when he became ill. I'd still love to meet him someday. Being a Hammond / Mellotron player who knows. Thanks to the Hour for uploading this interview.
@umacks I know how you feel.Gordon's music has always filled our home and marked my childhood. When my Dad was too tired to read us a bedtime story he'd sing us to sleep with Knotty Pine or Daylight Katy. Thanks for everything Gordon.Miss you Dad...
Saw this wonderful singer live playing in the bay area some ten years back. I have been listening to his music for 40 years now. Never tired of listening to him.
Learned today that he just passed. Gordon was not a fav. in my youth but as I grow older I see more & more how HUGE the man was as leading Folk Music. Influenced Dylan, Baez, J Denver, PP& Mary ,,,even Elvis Presley. So studious in researching the history of his ballad legends and writer & singer of beautiful (maybe sad ) heartfelt songs. No replacing him !! but we can still enjoy his songs , videos and LIFE, cheers all !
i have walked through my life with gordon lightfoot and his music by my side .even after 15 + years i automatically know the lyrics to all his songs.Gordon L is implanted in my soul.......Thank you gordon ,,,very.very much!!!!!
My mom used to play his records almost every day when I was very young, so his music always really takes me back. I don't really listen to it much but maybe I should. I heard one of his songs in a Burger King last night and it reminded me how much I like it. Funny how things like that can happen. Great to see he's still around.
Great interview. Gordon is not only a legend but a national treasure. He has shaped Canada indelibly - the mark he has left will not soon be forgotten. His music has been a cornerstone of my life - and helped get a sense of what being Canadian really means.
I heard an interview on XM radio today with Bill Anderson. Gordon has to be one of the most humble legends of all time. When they played Did She Mention My Name it brought tears to my eyes. When I hear Gordon, I just feel so Canadian and so proud.
He's Gordon Lightfoot! No one like him~so happy to know he is still around and love his music~ voice, lyrics, guitar playing etc...going to see him in Salina Ks I think in June 2016!!! He's so cute...personality, he's charming, spiritual, just love him~:-)
"If you can read my mind" is a mind alternating song, for me. When I hear it, it transcends me to a through the looking glass place. Unbelievable lyrics, sung by a god gifted musician. Viva Gordon. God bless you man.
Oh come on! Was that necesarry? I saw the man in Albuquerque NM two weeks ago. He STILL had all his power and prescence!! One of teh best performances ever!! Even at 70, he is still GORDON!!!! We should all be so lucky!! GO GORDON! Willy Maal / Curacao
Thanks for all the songs, music, and vocals. You are the all around Man and a great tribute to Canada.Spent a lot of hours listening to your tapes in the truck over the years. We spent a lot of time together with you and enjoyed every bit of it.It's great to go back and visit with you.Great interviews George..you Are the man,Many thanks.
He was the man saw him in concert over 30 years ago and he was great. What a nice man raised money for the families of the Edmund Fitzgerald victims and keeping in touch with them. I love his music and his distinctive voice and his lyrics tell a story not like the profanity and stupid senseless lyrics that the kids listen to today.
Look at him age. He is a guy you want to be your childhood friend. Not many of his kind left and certainly only one Lightfoot. I grew up with your music and love it more I as I have gotten older. Go Gordon Go. Thanks from the Great state of TEXAS
He was loved by the world but remained Canadian. Growing up listening to Gord on CHUM radio, countless concerts in Toronto and often returning home to Orillia to entertain his towns folk. He never forgot his roots. Died in Toronto at Sunnybrook Hospital.
Very nice to see this interview with Gordon Lightfoot. I love his songs already a long time but here in the Netherlands it is very seldom that Lightfoot is on television. So thanks to youtube we have here the chance to see him and his songs on video. Thank you for uploading.
What a gentle and humble man. I like it when older artists like Gordon still do live shows because they are so skilled at what they do, they make it look easy. You feel like you are listening to an old friend. When I listen to people like Gordon and Joni Mitchell and Neil Young, who are such great writer/composers, it makes me proud to be Canadian.
I just was had at...If you could read my mind.....will see him whenever he comes to town.....have see him everywhere...and always a best nite.....Thanks Gord.....a wonderful man...and humble....but what an artillery of songs...I'm told you wanna help your daughter in the music bus.... was surprised you told her sure...put your head to the rhinestone...and give me a finished song...how awesome....
Came late but stll grew up thru the late 60's and 70's and I still love his music...we all get old...Its apart of life...As long as we give to the world and like our GL...Its all good...
When I first saw Gordon play live, I was blown away by the power that his acoustic show presented. BAM- it just left the dock at full tilt. It was rock band powerful, with this delicacy and dynamic that was unique. God bless you, man!
Good interview, thanks for posting. Saw him in concert tonight at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. Thankful to be in the presence of greatness and even though he is very thin and his voice is frail and fragile, it still was a wondrous occasion. Love you Gord forever you Minstrel of the Dawn.
MR Lightfoot is obviously an intelligent man.He had a serious bout(s)w/alcoholism which affects a lot of celebrities, but thankfully he recovered.......Long ,peaceful life sir!!
Good point. What you describe is really touching. I felt the same "vibe" of love and appreciation in the air at the concert I went to. I'm a big fan of the 50s era, so I'm kind of used to concerts by artists who are past their peak. The fact that he wrote those songs and brought them to us in the first place, is enough.
I am such a fan of this great musician as well. Yeah, I'd like to meet him too. Happily, I was able to take in almost all of his his performances here in Edmonton. Always a class act. Perfect performances by him and his band. There's no one like him. thank you for bringing this interview to us. He gave very few interviews in his younger day...this is great.
I used to see him every year in Ft. Lauderdale. Every concert was amazing. And his band was so professional! James R. Nelson author of The Black Orchid Mystery.
Absolutely love his music. Most recently, saw him at the historic Majestic Theater in San Antonio... February, 2009, I think. GREAT performance in such a beautiful, unusual venue.
October 5, 2008. Little Rock Arkansas. Our Daughters bought us tickets to your concert for our anniversary. Our Last Concert together. Lost her in December 09. Thanks for our memories over the last 40 years. Tem P.S. : Darn good concert , by the way!!
I'm going to see him in May in Columbia, SC. I'm trying to promote the show to everyone that I know. It is a small venue and it would be great to see it sell out. Tickets are cheap for a talent like this. One of my favorites.
Mr Gordon Lightfoot . Wonderful musician, wonder career. This is September 2022 which means you are now 84 years old. May you remain healthy and wise . A real Canadian landmark.
Oh man when Mr. Lightfoot had that hemerage a while back, I was scared shitless we were gonna lose him. He's my favourite artist, and I got great appreciation for his music.
God Bless Gordon, you are in the league with many as singers and song writers. Tom T. Hall never had the voice and story combination like you do. You are legendary.
Gordon has always beena great song writer and entertainer ever since his first preformences at the Orillia Opera House, he is the pride of Orillia (my hometown, and his) Long Live Lightfoot
