You're the Best Barry 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Two minutes in and I'm screaming "piping bags Barry" at the screen. Probably too much coffee, sorry.
12:32 Teeth, Barry, the word you're looking for is "teeth". ;)
I am a slut for wantons and playlists. The first is a reference to "Wish Upon" a terrible movie, I haven't seen, but I've watched the Adum and Friends Commentary on.
With the pizza slider, you're supposed to push the "paddle" forward while you're pulling on the cover handle at the same speed. The handle basically has to be stationary relative to the surface. You're basically keeping the pizza in the same place while replacing the surface it's on. That's why you could get it to work in the end.
Same with depositing things. You place the "paddle" where you want the pizza to end up and then push the cover forward at the same rate as you're pulling the paddle.
As for the 1-star reviews, if they're due to usage rather than build quality, I wouldn't be surprised if they had the same issue you did.
I came to say this. You can actually create a simple DIY version using a flat tray or thin chopping board and a single sheet of greaseproof paper. It's all about the technique.
you can also use a similar thing to easily get spilt sauce off of your counter top
but yes, i imagine its gotten 1 star reviews because people think you just move the handle and not move the paddle forward at the same time
I only use a big thing plastic cutting board and do the handtrwirk that puzzabakers makes with their wooden spades
The cupcake gadget, you should try it as a cutter *after* the (single color) cupcakes are baked, then assemble the different colors. That's the only way to get the nice crisp layers in their photo.
Honestly that's how I thought it was supposed to be used
I'd also be willing to risk it and leave it in for the first few minutes of baking, so the dough can start to set, before pulling it out. Although the dough will probably stick to it … scrap that idea.
I found the instructions online and Barry followed them exactly as listed.
The fruit and potatoe cutter have around forever.
See that's what I'd do lol. Instructions or not.
I dont want to hear anyone yell at me for putting pineapple on pizza again.. after seeing Barry's abomination pickle, applesauce pizza...... ABOMINATION I say!!
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Right?
It’s like the first time I ordered a pizza in Canada, and asked for bacon. They put actual bacon on my pizza! Who does that?!
r/pizzacrimes
Two wrongs does not make a right.. Blasphemer! 😝
@@smurfjegeren9739 lol your point is well seen
I love pineapple on my pizza
That 2in1 opener is ancient, we had one when I was like 10, and I'm over 30. Really good for a lot of lids.
Yep! We've had one probably since the 70's. It's definitely older than me and I'm 30.
Yep, i'm nearly 40 and my parents had the same one, but with red handles, for as long as i can remember.
We got one as a wedding present (with other gadgets) 40 years ago!
@@markc1793 I have my mum's old one in my kitchen utensil draw. It's about 40 years old and also has red handles 😂
Yup mine is red, hitting the edge of the jar lid with a steady stick works just as well.
Did my man say pepperoni, gherkin, applesauce pizza? That sounds like a crime.
That IS a crime. I don't know if it falls just under food crimes, or if it's already a violation of Geneva war conventions? 😂😂
@@RustyDust101Ask if Canada has done it yet. If they have it's now a war crime. Just uh be prepared. If they haven't done it it's going to give them ideas.
That jar opener looks good for those with arthritis in the hands or wrist
Or for us midgets with mall hands who struggle to grip lids bigger than that baby food container 🤣
It's not really. Or at least it depends on how bad the arthritis is. It is an excellent bottle opener, it'll even do drinks bottles. However, you do need to be able to grip the handles together. My parents had that exact design ever since some time in the 60's, but now they're both nearly 80 they don't have the strength to grip the handles, so i got them one of the automatic openers Barry showed in a previous gadget video.
I can't grip either. The pain is so intense I know to take a break after opening jars or gripping things.
Also my right hand automatically began hurting just watching and imagining trying to use that gadget.
I found that the best solution for me is having a bunch of silicone mats around. Useful for so many unexpected things like keeping eggs from rolling around and breaking before I can crack them to make batter. Textured silicone pads have become my best friends. Also those silicone bowl covers are underappreciated for versatility.
I have this and it works well, especially as I have noticed a trend for lower profile or slanted lids.
This opener with different handles is in tje kitchen of my parenta at least since i can remember.. and thats 40 years ago. It still works
That t shirt is pure genius
Hi Guys, finally something I own and love. The 2 in one jar opener. My parents bought one in the 1960s and I used it all this time and brought it with me to Mexico 38 years ago and still have it. Thanks Mom and Dad and thank you Mr. Lewis
Wow, the first time I actually have experience with one of these gadgets. My parents had one of these universal openers (very similar model) since the 70s, was easy enough to use for me as a child, and it still works perfectly.
Same here. We still have it. Works a charm even though it's way older than I am!
We had one when I was a kid, and I’ve been looking for one for ages! I’m glad they’re back on the market.
Love the upsidedown oven shirt. 😂😂
Thanks, gonna do some more for cup sizes etc too I think
I spent half the video trying to figure out why it was upside down and it’s so when you’re cooking, you can just pull the shirt out and look at it.😂
Do yall remember thst betty crocker bake and fill bs cake pans or maybe i was just never used them properly also they werent as big as advertised
@@cherilloyd9561 I think I remember those, they were small
you replied to a comment about the shirt btw
@beth1814 oh oops I didnt realize I did I meant to just leave this as a regular comment thank you for telling me
Well I guess the cupcakes thing is an easy way to make tie dye cupcakes 🤷♀️
Mangoes are ripe when they start to turn orange and yellow if they are mostly green or entirely green they are not ripe
Also unripened mangoes should not be refrigerated the cold actually stops the ripening process and they will just start to rot and never ripen.
I dont like ripe mangos. I find them too mushy. I prefer them firm, so when they are turning red but there is still a bit of green. Very difficult to achieve unfortunately.
The pizza slide thing is for picking up anything. If you do it right, it will even pick up small amounts of liquid.
The 2 in 1 Opener is a blast from my past. My mother gave me one which her grandmother owned. We call it a "ouvre tout" which is French for "open everything". We are not a French speaking family, that's just what we called it.
I've used it so many times over the year.
There's no way the examples of the cakes with different colours on the packet were made that way, they are either cut after baking or photoshop :D
I also love Wilton products and have been subscribed to their channel and website for years and have used one of their tins which are good.
That's the exact tin opener my parents had, they got it some time in the 60's, and it was still going strong until a year or two ago when i had to swap it out for them with an automated one. It never failed, you could also do drink bottles with the smallest part.
We've had one of those 2 in 1 openers in the drawer for decades. Its so useful, especially for soft drink bottles! Also doubles up as a good ice smasher haha
I say we find a housewife from the 1700s, put her in a time machine, & invite her to Barry's house, to inspect his gadget drawer...😮😅
I mean the "TOOTHPICK" method isn't TECHNICALLY REUSABLE, it is for that whole tray, I guess that's what that thermometer is going after. Edit: I hope that thermometer thing wasn't expensive, since it's clearly just a color changing dye, also don't see how this isn't better than the ol' Toothpick method. Toothpicks make tiny holes, this is at least 3 toothpicks thick.
My mum and grandma both use an old (sock) knitting needle to check the cake. Also reusable, since it's steel.
@@rolfs2165 HUH, if true, is definitely reusable. Just didn't think it would stick to that.
I have the can and jar opener and have used it for years it has been good to me.
Years?!? Just years?!?
I got my first one of those when my grandma gave up her house and moved into a retirement home. That was three decades ago. She had owned hers for at least thirty years before that. So they've been around for at least sixty-five years now.
Those brabantia openers have been there for years. Never failed to open a lid
We had that opener at home when i was a kid you can open walnuts, jars, bottles, and i think it could also help with opening cans with a opener on it
I love my jar opener. Great when you have arthritis
Use a toothpick to check your cakes. If it comes out with cake on it, it's NOT DONE. Don't waste your money on that gadget. The Pizza lifter, people are using it for cleaning up spills on their counters. hahahahaha
That 2 in 1 opener has been around for a long time 😂 last time i saw one was in my grans kitchen about 20 years ago
A little bit of convincing 😂
Barry: "Come on, pizza, you can do it. I promise."
Pizza: "I don't know. What if I fall off? I'm pretty confy where I am."
Barry: "No, no, it's more comfy on this board, and I swear I won't let you fall."
Pizza: "Ok, I guess I'll give it a try. If you swear."
The can opener... my grandparents had the same thing. And it's still at my parents' place. And yes, many walnuts have been felled by that thing. That thing just doesn't break!
Just make the pizza on it, picking it up is the hard bit getting it off is easier.
Great video. Ordered the can opener right after watching. Thanks for the recommendation.
That can opener is amazing!!🎉
Ive been using that cake thermometer thingy-majig for about 15 years now, its still going strong, I love mine!
My parents had a similar can opener like that when I was little. (Late 80's) and my dad has rheumatism in his hands and it worked a charm, we even used it for soda bottles.
I want you to colab with Ashens again!
I want world peace but it's not going to plan
We have the 2in1 opener and it's brilliant.
The pizza peel looks quite similar to something we would use in the bakery to bake stuff on the oven floor. You'd put your bread (usually sourdough) on it, load the thing into the oven all the way to the back (can be quite deep) and then there is a mekanism that keeps it in place while you roll it backwards putting the breads on the oven floor.
i really cant be bothered with cooking rice any other way than a rice cooker x) i grew up with a thai step mum and never knew it any other way
The cupcakes look tied dyed! Love it
That grabantia bottle opener thing looks like something we had around the house as a kid!
I'm happy you liked the 2 in 1 jar opener. We had one at home when I was little (30 years ago) and used it a lot 😃
Love them all
That pizza hack product thingy can also be used for other things btw!
Like sauces on a table or something that spilt (has to be a bit viscous) and it will probs work better when not done on baking paper as well.
Nice video!
Every grandma in Italy has one of those tin openers in their kitchen
I bet that slider pizza gadget would work well for cake decorators also ❤
I use my Apple wedger for onions 😂
Pepperoni, apple sauce, gherkin pizza. Sorry but prison isn't good enough.
I bought a house with an old kitchen that had a stuck drawer. My builder has just taken out the kitchen and the drawer had various utensils including one of those jar openers. Some of them were junk but I'm keeping the opener, they're very useful
I find rice cookers overcook the rice, especially if you want to use the rice for fried rice. Don't need gadgets.
1 cup white rice, 1 1/3 cup water, (take a tablespoon water out if you have washed the rice).
Bring to the boil, (lid on).
Reduce heat to the lowest possible and simmer for 10 mins.
Let sit for 10 - 15 mins.
Plenty of articles online that give cooking information for all rice varieties.
No need to buy something else made out of plastic.
Yup, rice is the easiest thing you can cook. If someone needs a gadget I have bad news for them
For the fruit/veggie slicer, they should just make three complete units without the swappable handles. It would be so much safer and stronger that way.
I had that exact same thought when you fling that cupcake thing into the sink. What a damn mess. Lol
My mum has got a 2 in 1 bottle opener, which she has had for the past 35 years and it is still going strong. It’s almost identical to the one you tested Barry, except the handles are red. 😊
LOVE layered cakes! Definitely gonna get the cupcake one! Thanks For making this barry!
cheers mate
@@mrbarrylewis❤️❤️❤️
But it doesn’t work….
I want to use piping bags and using a little bit thicker cupcake batter. It would’ve been a lot less messy.
Well, this is the first time I've ever seen someone say they need longsleeves to use a pizza oven lol. No clue why.
Was looking at this cupcake gadget as a gift for my mum for Mothers Day. She bakes a cake for every student in her school (small SEN school) and some love cupcakes and thought this would make fun cakes, so interested to see how you find it.
It was.... ok, maybe the batter needs to be super thick but there are hacks that are better with tin foil etc
I think just dolloping spoons of coloured mixture would achieve the same result, you've saved me some money though, so thank you@@mrbarrylewis
I was thinking, could it be used as a cookie cutter? Then you could Frankenstein cupcakes together, or have a jelly filled cupcake, or a candy surprise one?
I've had a similar can opener since the 90's. (It might actually be from the 70's) Still works a charm!
That pizza was definately the best element of Barry's video! It looked so tasty and delicious!
Oh yeah, I've been waiting for another gadgets video!
Thank you Barry, for always making the best content.
My favourite gadget was the rice ruler, although we don't eat rice. I had the grand-parent of the can opener, probably the same brand, but it used to punch holes in the sides of the lids (some 40 years ago?)
I will teach you a hack, instead of dicing carrots when they are hard and raw, dice cooked carrots with the grid attachment.
I love your channel. You are a great content creator.
The pizza thing is basically the same thing that baker use to shove 15-20 baguette in an hoven without burning themselves. Imagine filling a 3 meter long hoven full of raw dough without messing your bread.
The T-shirt is great haha
I've had the same sort of can opener for about 18 years now and it really is great and works like a charm😂😊
Finaly gadgets again, lets go but remember, safety is number one priority!
I get home from work, and see a recent upload from Barry, uploading my favourite types of videos!! Let’s gooooooo!
My mum had one of those Brabantia lid openers when I was a kid..... I'm now 57.... Been around a while, probably because it works!!!
Loving the t shirt mate xD
Cheers, it is in the store we chucked together a design recently pretty fun
Easy way to put two different sponges in one cake is to make two cupcake batters one plain and then a colour bake the plain one for half the time then get a syringe filled with the colour batter. It works!
Absolutely genius shirt lmao
the 2 in 1 looks like some kind of a twisted torture device
My top 5 rices:
5) Brown
4) Condoleezza
3) Tim
2) Basmati
1) Anneka
Rice is easy. Rinse your rice until clear. Put twice as much water as rice. Bring to a boil, covered. When it boils, turn off the heat and leave covered for 20 minutes. Rice with be cooked and fluffable.
Even easier: use a rice cooker. It will cook the rice and keep it warm for you.
That pizza scooper actually looked really awesome, I can see that being super handy for transferring.
Out of curiosity what is the brand of that food coloring? I've never seen a red turn out that... well, *red* in a batter before, would love to get some. :)
Omg Barry!! ..you see how you have that pizza board thing well I saw that advertise yesterday for the first time and I had never saw this gadget before until yesterday well they wasn't selling it as a pizza base tool they sold it as a spillage pick up device they where picking up sorts up with it but the one that took the biscuit for me was them trying to pick up spilt milk with it hahaha, obvs with the power of editing they picked it up...have a good weekend Barry and family ☺️🤗
yes the thing from brabantia can crack wallnuts, they sold those universal openers here for decades and everyone used em for wallnuts as well
The bottle top opener is a very old design, possibly 1950's ?
I have one of those thin no edge cookie trays which I use to pick up pastry and pizza dough etc off the floured surface (rubbed with flour first)
As for Rice cookers, my daughter gave me one for Christmas and .... ok I thought I didn't need one.... Ok I concede.... they are utterly brilliant !
I saw one in Morrisons for £15 when I was shopping, so no they are not expensive, if your in denial like me, swallow your pride, YOU NEED ONE !
Commenting for the algorithm, thanks for the video Barry.
I have that white handles jar opener.
I have an old lakeland potato wedger that still works!!!!!
We had a jar opener like that for ~30 years until my Mum's hands became so bad she hasn't got the grip strength required any more.
I have the perfect bottle opener, an ice cream scoop. The ice cream scoop i have is kinda shaped like a hook or cresent moon (when you look from the side instead of a half circle) and i put that hook under the edge of the lid, push down slightly and it breaks the seal and the lid cones off easy as pie everytime when you twist it off.
The bottle/jar opener made me laugh because I've grown up with one :D I just asked my parents how long they've had theirs and the said about 30 years haha. I've never known any other bottle/jar opener (I'm 31) its great. I think the one you have is slightly bigger than the one I have. But you can use it for any size jar. even the smaller one you can use for slightly larger jars its the amount of pressure you use.
For opening jars you could also use a rubber band.
also a toothpick or skewer is also a cake thermometer.
If it comes out clean it's done.
If it comes out a bit moist or batter-like or sticks a bit, it's not quite done.
If the cupcake turned black, it's over done.
The Jar opener: have had one for Years. Best thing ever. You can use the tip to get under the jar lid and break the seal, too.
I have one of those cutters, but just for mango; it works decent. The only problem I have is needing to cut a bit on the skin to get started. But feel it works fairly decently 😄
6:34 You really have to wonder how we did it so easily in the past before this gadget came along
Last one looks very similar to (or. is eactly the same product as) a thing meant to easily lift up spills. I was already doubtful it could do that. Now I'm pretty much absolutely convinced it could never do that. lol
The lid opener is amazing but of kit. My grandparents and my mum had one and I now have my nan's. The smallest one I have also used as a screwtop bottle opener, sad but true 😂
The trick to the cupcake thing is adding extra flour to the mix before pouring. It thickens the batter so it doesn’t spread easily. ( Can’t remember exact amount, I want to say it was around 1/4 cup extra)
Re: cupcakes. Home-made batter would be thicker than box mix so separations would be much better.
That '2 in 1 opener', it's not a new thing here in Australia, they've been around since at least the '70s, I know my mother has one from the '80s in her kitchen drawer :) Extremely useful thing for opening jars.
41 seconds ago uploaded. i was right on time this time
Good work!
i think the way they made the cupcake pictures was by cuttinging out the layers after baking.
that shirt is genius
I may have to get the rice ruler as I’m the worst for cooking rice. Don’t want to get any more electrical gadgets. This gadget would be cool for camping too.
If you eat rice more than once a week, it's really worth getting a rice cooker.
Hey Barry! Unfortunately I had to leave your patron a couple of months ago 😞 but the reason is I am finally opening my own restaurant! Hope all is well! Have a great one!
Pizza slider doesn't work because there's not enough friction/stickiness. Barry's solution: let's add more flour to get less friction.
Pizza slider didn't work because he wasn't pushing it under the pizza.
The multi-purpose opener you covered in this video is certainly not a very new design. My grandma had one like this for as long as I remember, which should be at least the mid 90s, and the dark brown handles it had suggest to me that she must have had it since the 70s or 80s. In any case, seeing that tool again caught me pretty off guard!
