Love this knife. After adding a Camo-Form handle wrap for added retention, it was pure perfection. Thanks, John, for including that fascinating bit of history about the Moccasin Rangers of WWII. So great that TOPS draws attention to our military's history by highlighting lesser known individuals, divisions, battles, and historical incidents to keep such stories of courage and heroism alive.
Dude you just saved me from my depression. I missed out on the honey badger knife last night and may have found a substitute. The story and name of the knife alone makes me want to buy it. I've been looking for a good combat knife/bushcraft knife hybrid and this could be it. I like the sheath can be set up for a cross draw.
This and the Longhorn Bowie are some of the coolest looking knives I've ever seen. I'm glad they do the better scales now instead of just thin mud traction scales with hotspots.
Airik1111 tops better start kydex. Nylon sheaths have a number of serious faults. It very easy for knife to fall right out... and away on the field. This is very bad. Very. When looking at similar design n purpose knives and need to choose one.., I always buy the knife having kydex. This has happened numerous times. Be it known. I own hundreds of higher quality knives.
Thick edge for sure. I had several Tops knives. Many have a too thick edge, and tip. The thick blade combined with the low sabre grind makes it not a great slicer. High sabre grind as in the Junglas would be way better, and bring the thickness back to 5mm or 4mm. Not a crowbar but more of a combat knife. 0.250"/ 6.3mm is too thick for a knife that length.
Great review, and a great knife. I didn’t know the Moccasin Ranger was that thick. Makes me want to check it out more closely. Great story too. 87 feet! That’s a long throw for sure. I can stick a tomahawk at 30-35 feet pretty well, but have to be a bit closer with a knife. That is, if I want any consistency or accuracy. 👍🏻
Bad ass knife! Tops has some really awesome designs. Although I'm no tactical knife ninja by any means, never trained in knife fighting, no desire to do so, I still love the look and feel of a tactical design knife. I guess it's just a testosterone thing, lol.

@Tea And Crumpets! Almost. I decided on the Legion by TOPS. A big bigger and deeper (choral? spelling)

longhorn bowie is my pillow knife of choice.
@@elrico1364 I really like that knife but hate that they don't have a leather or kydex sheath for it.

I’m trying to decide if I want to buy this knife.
First thing I would do is grind off the thumb jimping.

Does it rust easy.???,
1095 will rust easy if not taken care of.
Very cool knife and awesome story behind it👍🏼🍺
Which knife has the stronger tip the Moccasin Ranger or the Apache Falcon? And which knife is better for Survival?
Both are a 1/4 inch steel but I would say the Falcon.
@@Wingman115 ok thanks. And what do you think about the Tops Alskan Harpoon a better knife for survival than the Apache Falcon?
Excellent!
Looks like a great knife!
Thanks for stopping by my friend.
Great knife and awesome story! 👍👍
Have bookoo knives... if only one.... this is it... no doubt about it.

Great knife, fantastic story.
Thanks for watching.
The moccasin rangers date back during the Civil War. In WV. You're missing some history there.
Give me a lead on where I can go to learn about it. I had to go on what I had at the time. I would love to learn and know more.
