Mitsuo Iso is absolutely the GOAT. That Asuka Final Stand scene was so raw. Just seeing the weight of the mechs and her struggling throughout the fight was insane. And eventually getting hold of the Evas head to snap it just felt real. Definitely a scene that will always amaze me.
His animations are so enthralling, and I finally see that many of the scenes that drew my attention as a kid was done by him. From the very notable one like Eva, Ghost in the Shell and Blood, but I didn't expect to see so many others. I consider his Dennou Coil to be an important and extremely progressive piece within contemporary hard sci-fi. It manages to capture modern consumer tech in such an accurate way, and the adoption of wearable tech by not just the masses but how children would interact with said tech.
Nice to see you here man. Is it true that Iso sometimes skipped the in-between sections of his cuts? I've heard about it on an animation panel that, almost all his cuts are keyframes and doesn't have inbetween? just want the opinion of an accomplished animator like yourself? Also, is it a difficult process?
@@SakugaObscurious not really an animator, but as I understand it, it's not that he "skipped the in-betweens", he just used a different workflow compared to most other animators, the straight ahead method of animation, in which you draw each frame one after the other, so there's no real distinction between key frames and in-betweens, so technically they could be considered all keyframes, yeah Usually you would draw keyframes to get a sense of the overall movement you want to animate, and then fill in and tweak the motion with the in-betweens to complete the animation The standard method is more structured and forgiving of mistakes (it's also much easier to manage as an animation studio), while the straight ahead method is more difficult to master and can become a problem if the animators in charge of the scene aren't extremely skilled, but if mastered it can deliver a very strong sense of movement and momentum that can be hard to achieve with the standard method
Mitsuo Iso is probably my favorite Japanese animator of all time. His work is what inspired me to pursue animation as a career to begin with. I hope we get to see him in the director's seat more often!
This video feels like a sakuga museum exhibit. I always loved Iso's work in EoE, but I never put in the time to figure out what else he's been in even tho I loved the animation style in that scene so much. I didn't even know there was a name for it even tho it's a style I always gravitated towards, whether it's looking at it or attempting to replicate it in my own stuff. Amazing video for an amazing artist.
The Champ returned showing a new format. Man I learned I was fan of Mitsuo Iso work without knowing it. I've watched and enjoyed everyone of those animes ignoring there a genius working the hard way on them .
I got so excited when I saw the notification!! What a fascinating and well-made summary of an incredible animator. I just got reminded why I love this medium so much. Thank you for making this!!! :D
Ayooo it's the legendary Full Limited animator himself. His works are so damn inspiring that I studied his works for years now as an animator whose still learning and improving my animation skills. 🙏 I love his works so much and the mastery behind his animations is incredibly impressive, especially on how he animates straight ahead on 2s & 3s and achieving and maintaining the fluidity on such a limited frame rate. An absolute master of his own craft.
Watching the MPE fight in end of eva as a 14 year old made me realize I liked animation so much. I couldn't tell why I was so drawn the to fight, visually. It looked so much more fluid than most anime i'd watched till then.
I always thought the final battle between Asuka and the Production EVAs was one of the greatest pieces of traditional animation ever made. Super cool to hear the story of the dude behind it!
Man if this account is about to post videos like this all the time, this is going to help me tremendously when I start school for 2D animation, 3D modeling and visual effects as far as inspo and discovering different animation and style techniques.
he's back guys
Yes my man
I'm a Japanese animator.
As an individual, I am very happy that you made a video like this.

OKAY JEEZ I'M SORRY
Nah not really. Art can just have the simple purpose of appeal. Doesnt always need to have a message
@@lamourlamour332 in fact, one could argue that if art necessitates a point to justify its existence, it's propaganda

Ya not every piece of art needs to do that it can get exhausting for the audience.

i know this is about animation, but the sound design in that Blood: the last vampire sold that scene so hard.
This is a golden format for videos... Thanks a lot ! I hope you'll continue on this kind of video
