I'm 50/50 on the Primaris due to my love of what is now called the First Born marines. With the coming new Terminator Models being either/or perhaps GW is going to smooth over the differences between the two so you can just run whatever models you think are coolest.
I'm 10/90 on the Primaris with the only thing against getting rid of them is with the concept of unscrambling an egg. The cat is already out of the bag, but I will say it feels more like we are now playing Warhammer 50,000 instead of Warhammer 40,000. A whole new game, setting, and rules.
I'm like the older stuff better but then again I haven't played tabletop since the Tau first appeared. Hope the don't mess with the terminators to much, my old man and I played the crap out of table top space hulk once I was old enough to understand how to play, so terminators make me a bit nostalgic. But overall as long as people have fun, play what you like and make fond memories of your own. By the Emperor, I feel old. My brothers keep joking that I should be a Drednaught at this point.😅😅😅
I like the new models a lot but I don't like the whole "surprise! we had thousands of super-super soldiers in the freezer this whole time, and new badass gear to boot" and does that mean in a couple hundred years all the pre-primaris equipment will be useless due to being too small? like thats a lot of crazy powerful artifact armors and such, They gonna reforge it somehow or just throw it in a museum?
@@Seeber420 It bugs me to no end but I try to ignore that. Just makes the older stuff better for me. 'Damn kids, back in my day...'😅😅😅 You know what I mean?
Battlesector was my first foray into 40k, and it's the reason that the Blood Angels are my favourite space marines. Would love to see you do a full play through!
If I'm remembering correctly the idea of in-universe concerns of Primaris replacing First-Born is presented in a White Dwarf short story featuring Gabriel Seth of the Flesh Tearers in "Blood Forged", an interesting read.
If you want to look at the lore of how OG space marines chapters dealt with the new Primaris marines look at the Dark Angels. They didn't trust them and basically sent them on suicide missions or put them in scenarios where there was little chance of survival. They thought they were spies sent by Guilliman (Primarch of the Ultramarines). Dark Angels are famous for their secrets which they keep at any cost. Additionally, Chaos Gate DeamonHunters is a must-play if you're covering 40k tactical games!
So for the Primaris Marines, I'm all for it. Maybe because I'm an Iron Hand successor and trust that Cawl isn't doing sneaking shenanigans or maybe because I like the bigger marines. I personally think they're a good addition to the universe and the tabletop, seeing as they don't replace the First Born, just add to the ranks, especially for my father chapter. On the tabletop, they don't get nearly as much customization/options per squad for dealing with threats like their Firstborn contemporaries which in my opinion encourages the player to run them in tandem. All that being said If other players hate 'em, that's okay with me because in the end, we're all still wargamers playing with toy soldiers. The Emperor Protects!
My biggest problem is that none of the DLC factions like Sisters or Necrons, get an actual campaign. They can be used in the generic campaign and other game modes, but they don't get a story campaign.
The Tyranids do not have a playable campaign either iirc they only appear as enemies. Granted it is harder to do a campaign for them considering how their characters work.
I'm just praying that someone could make an Xcom style game about the guard, or maybe an Inquisitor and their retinue on some war-torn planet. All you have to do is take Xcom 2 and the exact way that plays with the combat and cover, and all the customisation, recruitment and base building, get Dan Abnett to write it, and you've got one of the very best 40k games ever made.
Chaosgate Daemonhunters and Mechanicus are both solid 'recent' additions to the 40k videogame selection. Just waiting on Space Marine 2 to come on out, and a proper revisit of DoW returning to what it was would be nice.
I am mixed on the Primus Marines, but the storyteller in me like you would love the story of the Old Marines still out there having to fight alongside these supposedly improved Marines. For someone that doesn't buy the minis and armies though, that is just my take
I would definitely recommend GhaosGate Demonhunters, playing the Grey Knights against Death Guard. It is the main bulk of XCOM without the bullsh*ttery of the RNG. Great game to play, would like to see you demo it. PS: Andy Serkis (voice of Gollum) voices a character in it ^^
Wish they would make new campaigns along with different space marine chapters a Black templars Armageddon campaign or a Crimson Fist Rynn's World campaign would be so awesome
Carleon be getting shit done with the Bolt Pistol! Also, I like most of the Primaris visuals, but their lore was some of the least 40k stuff I've seen since my involvement with the hobby (almost 20 years ago, now...)
the problem with the primaris is they just appeared some tec priest of mars made hundred of thousands secretly form the imperium using gene seed collected from all chapters which is a big nono for any space marine to loose even one gene seed. and get this they are better than the emperors space marine. so it clashes a lot with the lore. if you would compare is like the clones form starwars got the Spaarti and the Spaarti were all jedi equivalent.
If you haven't tried it Space Hulk: Deathwing is very fun. Even has multiplayer if you wanted to drag Avi in. Haven't been keeping up with the Twitch side of things, so not sure if you've already played it.
Hmm, was going to suggest W40K: Deathwatch, but apparently it was delisted from Steam a couple of years ago, not too surprising really. I honestly liked the game, but it definitely deserved some more love from the devs than it got. I believe it started off as a $2 mobile game before getting ported to Steam at like $20, which definitely left a bad taste in your mouth off the bat. Turn based XCom like this against the Tyranids with a squad of six marines I think. As you completed campaign missions you'd collect different weapons to equip your marines with and they would level up to gain new abilities, and since this was the Deathwatch, there were marines from like "6" different chapters available, each with their own set of abilities. Also with each mission, or whenever you scrapped equipment you weren't using, you gained requisition points or whatever they called it and it allowed you to open up booster card packs giving you new marines and equipment. I know people can be weary of card pack loot boxes but I honestly think this game handled it in the best way I've seen a game do it to date, there were no microtransactions(at least on PC) it was all earned in game. The campaign story wasn't terrible and it was challenging at times but fairly easy to wrap your head around the mechanics, and actually fairly fun. Even playing the same missions over and over if you wanted to open some more packs, while a bit repetitive didn't really get boring. For me at least. I rather enjoyed the game, it was just hard to shake the feeling of paying ~10x the price for it on PC compared to iOS, and most all that changed was they added I think 3 new chapters of useable marines, but only like 1 or 2 new individual marines for those three chapters where as the original three had like 10+ each. I don't even think the devs ever changed anything with the game after it was released either, no patches or support, was just dead, so I'm not shocked it was delisted.
I've softened somewhat on the Primaris. Nowadays I only really have an issue with their vehicles and the fact that most of their weapons look more and more like modern firearms. Okay, and I have also only ever really enjoyed the standard MK VII helmets, so I'm biased against the Primaris helmet designs as well 😅
You can get EVERYTHING from games workshop if you use their licence as long as your stuff get's put in it as well that's why even the cheapest 40k title has very high quality assets. Warhammer is like McDonalds... you get our names you get our bulk supplier and name recognition. You get all the legal + financial risk and if it pans out we get our cut. I do personally like the Primaris as they expanded the space marine lines infantry section which I personally found really stagnant 4. After those I hope we see newer factions like Custodes, GSC or Votann added..
Armageddon is a fun game. One of my problems with the Primaris is that GW says it takes years to make new models but then they just dumped out the lore with no thought put in to it and the fall of Cadia was a joke. At least build it up not crap it out over a weekend.
I joined Warhammer in 8th, so the Primaris were kind of the first Astartes I saw. So they don't bother me particularly. I've been reading the Dark Imperium books and the Indomitus Crusade novels and they do a really good job showing how other Astartes felt about the Primaris. Some were... okay. Others? Others were profoundly unhappy.
I just can't wait till we get the announcement of CA making either Total war warhammer 40k, or any 40K RTS (could even be a dawn of war given SEGA owns Relic and the IP as far as I'm aware so could have CA make one instead after the mess that was DoW3) Because there is no way in the Realm of Chaos that they aren't going to print all the money that would be thrown at it
My main issue with the Primaris was the fact their new grav transports couldn't be used by First Born and the Primaris couldn't used Rhinos, Land Raiders or Storm Ravens (The last two are notably able to carry terminators and centurion who are bulkier then the Primaris) hope this is getting changed in the new edition Other then that, no real problems with them, they add some interesting developments and honestly the Imperium needed something to help stem the tide against the constantly evolving threats of the other factions. Honestly I'm glad they did a story around the Primaris rather then the GW default of "This new modal has always existed" which to always feels cheap.
I'd prefer Gladius, also RUclips thinks this is Dawn of War. But yeah after the Primarus Marines it feels like we have moved from Warhammer 40,000 to Warhammer 50,000. New Setting, New Story, New Factions, New Rules, New Game.
The game engine on this title is nothing less than epic (especially given my casual enjoyment of Sanctus Reach, the predecessor). As much as Primaris (not a fan) Marines bore me (I'm a filthy Xenos player... For the Greater Good... Haven't seen them much since Dawn of War: Dark Crusade and Soul Storm.... on PC...), I have this and enjoy that game engine. I'll keep an eye on it, and the DLC, especially for the sales! One of these days, I'll play the main campaign and get to know the Deus Ex Machina Plot Armored Primaris Marine types. Someday.
I like the idea of the Primaris, but I hate the way they were introduced, somehow they just appear out of nowhere with no setup, and apparently they are better than what the Emperor of Man had ever made. As if someone made an iPhone 14 in their garage when everyone was using a flip phone and everyone had also forgotten how they even made the thing. But otherwise I do like what this can bring for the setting even if this was a lost opportunity to make a whole series about the road to the warriors of the future. I would like to see a playthrough of this game though.
But is it though? Technology advances to meet the evolving threats. Astartes were designed to fight humans and aliens. 10k years later they're up against gods and daemons. It'd be absurd if they were the pinnacle of warfare forever.
@@datonkallandor8687 also Custodes have been a thing for decades so the idea of the Imperium being able to create even more powerful soldiers is not new news. Heck there was an entire founding whose gimmick was about improving geneseed though that didn’t work out as well.

They all around just feel off and random
By lore the Black Templar's straight out killed most of their new Primaris reinforcements, What's even better their temperament makes them better at going through the procedure to become Primaris they fricken hate it.
To my understanding that was only a specific group of Black Templars rather then the entire Chapter. Grimaldus and Helbrecht have both been a lot more accepting of them.
Battlesector is one of the best tabletop version on PC, Sanctus Reach is another great one and so is Armageddon ChaosGate is great too but the only 40k game that gets talked about is fuckkking Space Marine 2 a 2006 3rd person action game that is way worst then people are making it out to be. Battlesector is such a better 40k experience
I don't mind Primaris in principle? But, their introduction was stupid and, the units lack versatility, like generally its a melta squad or a heavy bolter squad, if intercessors get a heavy weapon option and, we get a primaris equivalent of a vanguard veteran, I'll be fine honestly (Honestly just more shield and sword/heavy weapon primaris units plz, Deathwatch would love that)
I really dislike Primaris from a lore and model point, I think a throwback to the Heresy by making mass produced weaker marines would have been much better from a story point of view
The reason why I refunded this game is because there is: 1. not enough zoom out AND 2. there is no minimap. One of these transgressions is bad enough, but two at the same time is a mortal sin.
Let the campaign begin. Baal will be retaken, and we will take the fight to Leviathan

@@Marinealver to be fair, it was a pretty big tendril, and the first tyrannic war was against the tyrannids when they weren’t evolved for our galaxy

I really dislike Primaris from a lore and model point, I think a throwback to the Heresy by making mass produced weaker marines would have been much better from a story point of view
Basic gameplay and units are great.
But the environments and presentation, campaign seem poor.
FOR BAAL >:O
do a letsplay
The reason why I refunded this game is because there is: 1. not enough zoom out AND 2. there is no minimap. One of these transgressions is bad enough, but two at the same time is a mortal sin.
You can literally zoom all the way out into a tactical view of the entire map
Play mechanicus
New 40k game, yay!
Oh, primarus.
Pass.
add a army painter and the guard and I would play this game even if I have to hear blah blah angel bird man blah blah
Primaris marines SUCK
