It helps that I’m an avs fan and we’re really good but hockey games are now my favorite events to go to period, they’re just flat out fun and there’s nothing I’d rather do (if you ignore the insane pieces for food/drinks at the stadium but that’s an issue everywhere)

I’ve been watching hockey sporadically for several years now. Never really had much interest in the sport until the Kraken arrived. I really got invested in hockey these last playoffs when both my Maple Leafs and my second team, Seattle, won a series. Rewatching Tree’s Hockey vids have helped me understand the game. Now I’m excited to at least try and watch hockey.
The NHL should be riding Jomboys dick. It also wouldn’t hurt to get some guys on NFL broadcasts talking about hockey. The game itself is fantastic yet the NHL refuses to market properly.
Tbh, UT personally got me into watching and investing in baseball. I wanna invest in hockey but as a small town black man, I don't know where to start.

Barely losing to a powerhouse like the Devils (we’re not gonna talk about the non-slash though), and beating two strong teams in Pittsburgh and Tampa, while dominating Columbus like any good team should (sorry Jackets fans, but it’s the truth), along with having the most goals scored by a Wings team through the first 4 games since the 95-96 season. And, while yes Cat has a quarter of those goals, a lot of them are from depth forwards and defensemen. We might not be a playoff team yet, but this team is 10x better than what Yzerman inherited back in 2019, and will most likely be in the playoff picture. Hell, they didn’t fall out of the picture until that trip to Ottawa around the trade deadline last year.
If the Yzerplan is still stuck in neutral in 3 seasons, McDavid is probably out of Edmonton once his contract is done and still no Cup. Just a thought.
Wings picked up players to let young guys develop in ahl. Took Stevie over a decade to win a cup when teams could smuggle Russians and spend all the money.

Oh good. Trees season preview before I get on a plane to the US and Canada to go to hockey games. Thanks to Tree and The Hockey Guy my interest in the game has spiked.
Some perspective as a Red Wings fan. First a small correction, it's not Year 6, it's Year 5. Minor, but still. More importantly, Stevie got on board when we had one of the worst records in hockey *history*. COVID spared us a worse fate, but all the same, he was handed a 17-49-5 team with awful contracts up and down the roster as a starting point. But every year since we've gotten better. It hasn't been meteoric, but it's been marked. My expectations for this year are to get more than 35 wins, which was how many we got last year. As it stands, I'm not panicking and my patience isn't wearing thin. Stevie wants to make a dynasty, not a flash in the pan. We have tons of prospects waiting in the wings, getting shown the ropes by respected veterans (except Reimer, fuck that guy). As soon as I start seeing stagnation or backward progress, then it'll be time to worry. But as it stands, the leash on Stevie is still loose and on the ground.

It’s early but our big acquisitions are already paying off. Rodrigues has slotted almost flawlessly with Barkov and Reinhart while OEL has stepped up big time in the absence of Montour and Ekblad, especially on the power play. If the team can play consistently well when those two return (plus Bennett) this team can be an absolute force this year.

He’s constantly out of position and stops moving his feet, causing him to reach and take penalties. Overall though, watching him, you get the sense that he’s not sure where he’s supposed to be on the ice. The last goal New Jersey scored, Kulikov was nowhere to be found and it took Mikkola by surprise because he thought he had Kulikov next to him and he wasn’t. As a Tampa fan, I acknowledge that in about a year or 2 we are going to be the Capitals. But man are those cup runs awesome to have in the memory bank. It will make the rebuild come easier.
As an Avs fan, I'm hopeful this season. A lot of great forward pick-ups that have helped their 3rd and 4th lines tremendously. And this year, I think the team realizes Landy isn't going to be an option to fall back on so they're moving forward without constantly playing in reserve while anticipating his return at any moment.
As a born and raised winnipeger I have high hopes for this year, 2 games in and they've looked really good offensively at least, few tweaks on defence and we should be OK. Now I don't expect a cup, but I am hoping for another run like we had when we ran flat against Vegas. We have the talent, we just need it all to click.
It's a good time to be a Stars fan, we've got a damn good team and it should stay that way for the next few years. Here's to some real superstar talent!

Keep an eye on Oliver Moore. See what Cooley's doing in Arizona? The Gophers have to be one of the best in college hockey today (Michigan and BC are up there too) at developing talent for the NHL
basically how i feels with my wild. like they are forever mid until those contracts are up. only this season and next and they will be gone. but the regular season is wild and you never know who will take the spots for the playoffs and who will suck that we thought would be good. or who will sneak in. gonna be a fun season no matter what.
As a caps fan, the reason we gave wilson that contract is because he will take the C when Ovi retires, he will be a cap for life and is a perfect captain to have during a rebuild.
The one thing that not many people know about the Blues and how/why they have to compose their rosters to always at least be decent is because of their Financials. The team does not own the arena they play in-the city does, they also do not get proceeds from on site parking or concessions. They *need* to have asses in seats or the checkbooks start getting tight.
I don't want to curse it but the canucks are doing really good. I hope they can keep it up 😅. How often does Tree do updates for NHL? I feel like there has been a lot of surprises this early season

It’s early but our big acquisitions are already paying off. Rodrigues has slotted almost flawlessly with Barkov and Reinhart while OEL has stepped up big time in the absence of Montour and Ekblad, especially on the power play. If the team can play consistently well when those two return (plus Bennett) this team can be an absolute force this year.
And we need to make Kulikov a healthy scratch when Monty and Ekblad do come back.
@@ZachBarger I really don’t know how he got the nod of Reilly. Felt like Reilly was Better. Kulikov is just awful. He’s constantly out of position and stops moving his feet, causing him to reach and take penalties. Overall though, watching him, you get the sense that he’s not sure where he’s supposed to be on the ice. The last goal New Jersey scored, Kulikov was nowhere to be found and it took Mikkola by surprise because he thought he had Kulikov next to him and he wasn’t.

As a Tampa fan, I acknowledge that in about a year or 2 we are going to be the Capitals. But man are those cup runs awesome to have in the memory bank. It will make the rebuild come easier.
As an Avs fan, I'm hopeful this season. A lot of great forward pick-ups that have helped their 3rd and 4th lines tremendously. And this year, I think the team realizes Landy isn't going to be an option to fall back on so they're moving forward without constantly playing in reserve while anticipating his return at any moment.

As a born and raised winnipeger I have high hopes for this year, 2 games in and they've looked really good offensively at least, few tweaks on defence and we should be OK. Now I don't expect a cup, but I am hoping for another run like we had when we ran flat against Vegas. We have the talent, we just need it all to click.

The one thing that not many people know about the Blues and how/why they have to compose their rosters to always at least be decent is because of their Financials. The team does not own the arena they play in-the city does, they also do not get proceeds from on site parking or concessions. They *need* to have asses in seats or the checkbooks start getting tight.
