I think a lot of people misunderstand the Demi situation. The issue they had wasn't to do with options being sugar free, but the fact they they were marketed as "guilt free". That type of marketing teaches impressionable children that you should feel guilty after eating certain foods and validates the disordered thoughts of people w EDs. (regardless, I don't think Demi should have sent their fans to attack the small business)

However, many people look for sugar free and gluten free and vegan free options so it is nice that the business is trying to appeal to many people as they can. The part that makes me mad is that just one minuscule word or thing sets people off when it shouldn’t. There is a sense of entitlement with some people who think the world revolves around them and expect people to bend over backwards to appeal to them without thinking of others. Not everyone does this, but the people who have this entitlement ruin things for others sometimes. That is what I am mad at.

I feel ashamed that the first RUclipsr that I've subscribed to its Shane Dawson (over 10 years ago). I was in middle school I think and at the time I had no idea about the history of Black people in the US (or anywhere else for that matter) and I was hardly above intermediate level. I don't really blame myself for liking him at the time because I couldn't really understand the connotations but it will always be something that I'm ashamed of.
I feel like a little bit more research needs to be put into these types of videos. Only knowing half of a story or "halfheartedly" doing research and then putting out wrong information is harmful. Also, the blatant bullying and disrespect for people in general is astounding. Do I fully agree with Demi's drama? Not entirely. Her issue wasn't that it was sugar free, it was that it was labeled "GUILT FREE" as though you should feel guilty for eating sugar. And, even though neither of you seem to have ever had to deal with an eating disorder, those words are extremely triggering. I have(and, honestly, still do) struggled with feeling guilty for eating anything at all... healthy or not. I feel guilty, and then I stop eating because the guilt and shame are much stronger than my hunger. So the fact that a place that sells food is calling something sugar free "guilt free" instead of just sugar free is indeed triggering. Your little jab at eating "diet food" at the end was also uncalled for. So Shane has done three apology videos in his career (maybe four). His first was for blackface which he did for several different videos. He has done blackface more then 4 times in seperate videos and a lot of his early day youtube career was making fun of race. His second apology was due to him being on a podcast and calling a little girl (I think 13) sexy as well as saying that he has googled some creepy things relating to babies. He apologized for a few other things and some that he never apologized for, such as some nasty things he has stated he's done with his cat. The reason the blackface resurfaced is because Shane continues to do conterversial things and then return with next to no reprocussions (for example, his latest videos has a shit ton of views.) So yeah the blackface wasn't the only thing he was cancelled for, but it also wasn't before youtube. He did it a whole lot of times including having recurring characters with it.
