    I am simply blown away by this new Garland Gab Episode! I have spent the entire 1 Hour 20, and 13 seconds glued to the screen, absorbing every word she said. Thanks guys so much! I cannot wait for her "Gene Kelly" book to come out. She is so dedicated to accuracy and we (the Garland community) are so lucky to have her. Already looking forward to part 2. Congratulations on such an extraordinary episode.

    This is the best and most accurate information about Garland I’ve seen in years. Patricia, with great respect and knowledge, puts everything in perspective and truth.

    Judy Garland is always so fascinating. Of course her singing and talent is just beyond expression but she's always interesting as a person too.

    Wow amazing it’s nice to hear she has nothing but goods words to say about Judy I heard her before and she said pretty much the same things about her witch is super nice to hear. But my favourite Judy garland and gene Kelly film will always be for me and my gal I just think the chemistry is so wonderful in that movie between them both and probably Judy garlands most heartbreaking moments caught on film. I was only watching that film the other day and this popped up so that was cool.

    Excellent episode. Thank you. Mrs. Kelly is really great, interesting, very knowledgable and such an amazing direct link to Judy Garland via her husband Gene Kelly. I've heard several of her interviews over the years and they are always compelling. She is clearly a careful researcher. You can see why Mr. Kelly put so much faith into her to safeguard his legacy as well as Garland's and others who lived in the magic of 1930s through the late 40s. It's gratifying that you very young people are as interested in Judy as people my age (I'm 72). I am old enough to have see her in concert as well as see her television program when it aired along with my parents. Anyway. I really enjoy your channel and it was my pleasure to subscribe.

    You always want people to know about Judy's genius and not seen as a tragic figure. She could do and be anything on the screen......no one like her!

    While I completely understand Patricia's memories (of course), I am a little confused at the 50 minute mark where she mentions Gene had brought Charles (Chuck) Walters out to film "Get Happy".
    Chuck had been directing for a few years by then, choreographing many films and a long time Freed Unit alumni. He was the director of "Easter Parade" with Judy, had danced with her ("Presenting Lily Mars"), choreographed "Meet Me in St. Louis" and many more professional and personal contributions throughout her life, as did Roger Edens and Kay Thompson.
    Judy did the "Mr Monotony" number with Minnelli's tux and fedora design in "Easter Parade". Obviously this was cut before release, but still readily available.
    Walters directed "Summer Stock" and - yes - took many of the late night 'phone calls - and declined "Royal Wedding" because he feared he would go insane if he had to do another Garland picture.
    To suggest that it was Gene who was behind the "Get Happy" number just sounds a little odd. I am sure he would have helped and maybe he did, but the song was Judy's idea - she would only do a finale if she could do that song - and the choreography with "the boys" and the number was all Walters.
    Am I wrong?

    • @TheGarlandGab
      @TheGarlandGab  11 месяцев назад +3

      She didn't mean he brought him out to do the Get Happy number, she meant he was responsible to bringing him to Hollywood in the 1940s, but because she was talking about Get Happy at the time then it can seem a bit confusing.

    • @pandarew64
      @pandarew64 11 месяцев назад +2

      I get that bit, yes, but Chuck was taken out West as a dance director in '43. No doubt he and Gene knew each other, but (and I have said) I don't think he had much input for actually getting him there. I wish no disrespect to memories, but I just don't see the correlation
      ( I guess I just have to wait for the book! :) @@TheGarlandGab

      @pandarew64 I'm not sure, I'll have to re-read the brilliant biography about Chuck by Brent Philips

      Gene recommended Walters to choreograph "Du Barry Was A Lady."
