Thank you for the video. I'm new to cabbing. I built a flat lap and I've made 50+ cabs. Then a friend of mine gave me a old homemade cab machine. It has 2 hard diamond wheels, expandable 2 1/2 x6 " drum and a 6" buffing wheel on the end. Anyways wasn't sure what technique to use with it. So your video is very helpful. Thanks again.
Hi Dan, I was wondering what type of belts you were using on your expanding drum? They look like silicon carbide? I'm very new to the game and have heard that they wear out quickly but are a heck of a lot cheaper than diamond sanding belts!
It is good to have hard diamond wheels maybe 70 or 120 grit, really both if you start with 70 grit. Then go with the belts. I order mine from Kingsley North. Thank you for watching.
Thoughts about hand sanding if you can’t afford a lapidary right away. Obviously I’m not hand cutting and doing all that by hand but I have some BEACH Jasper. A lot of it has been rounded but there are some I’d like to sand and polish the primitive way to wire wrap them after. My concern is losing patterns/coloring as I sand away layers will that happen? Because some I may leave as is. Any tips are grateful!!!
The patterns in the stone may or may not stay consistent as you sand and polush down. I did a new video last week on polishing you can make a flat lap for under $150
@@ScottyHawkish ruclips.net/video/iC8KIbeCRow/видео.html that is the link to last week video. I ordered diamonds pads for about $50 i will modify it a little mount it at an angle and put a lip in bucket to keep water dripping on motor. Then i will have flat lap and polisher. I will another video update in a week or so. Thank you for asking and watching.
Thank you very much for the video! I want to grind some small pieces of glass, and for be easier the grinding process I would like to try to stick them with this jewelry`s wax. I checked some jewelry`s wax, but there are thousand models and colours, and I think they are mostly for modeling. Can you please tell what is exactly the name of the tipe of wax wich you use, and from where you bought it?
You can purchase here at Amazon amzn.to/2Erwmk1 also here is a easy to use dop wax heater and it heats your stones too .... here is the link: amzn.to/2rynVLi
Hello Friend. I would like to know what the name is. of this product that you are using this green that you put in the tip of the wood as is the name of it. answer me, please. If you can reply in Portuguese, I thank you. I'm using Google translator kkkkkk
Practice practice practice.... don't be to hard on yourself. Just enjoy as you learn. Also the rock has a mind of its own sometimes and doesn't do what we want by chipping or soft spots. Glad you are getting in Lapidary. 😊😊😊😊

Yes, I ended up taking it all the way to 1000 grit but did not have it on the video. I had ordered the 800 and 1000 grit sand paper and it did not come in at the time of the video. That was about 3 years ago. Thank you for commenting and seeing that. I was just starting to make videos on rocks and jewelry.

@@DanielMillerlife Thank you very much!
good and thanks
The line you draw on the stone belongs on the bottom. Templates are made to get you to standard sizes. This is very different from most cutters.
I have found cutting right on the line causes chipping at times. I prefer to sand down to the line.
End result is all that matters.
There's always one.
best video oh how to cab to date.
