before ball bearings they use bearing with out balls, call plain bearing or journal bearings. This kinds of bearing can only used in low speed products / process.
Love balls, don't like shaking them on the centerless, tried it for a year. Then to the surface grinders, 440 and 220 centerless making ball seats 5 years 100 of thousands of them, nickle chrome
I thought it is about the manufacturing of ball bearing at first, but later realized it is probably the steel ball used in pachinko (Japanese pinball) machine...
leeyc0 it's a mass product anyway, so i think the cost savings would be negligible - i also kind of think not every ball is inspected like that (did not fully watch the video/undestand the text).

vice versa. balls usually much more harder. Top grade bearings have extremely high balls HRC (>>70), while races rarely have >65 (55...60).
Why 9:55-10:08 is so fun to watch, I'm not sure; but I think I'm going to have to build a steel ball rollercoaster track now !
