  • A great and important documentary on the origins of trance and goa trance scene in England, back in 1992, thanks to Rupert (Merlinhedd), the original producer of this video, who gave me a dvd.
So if you're sound...and you're into sound, watch this space ;)
The club from the video is Panjaea's Floating Focal Point, London

In order to dive deeper into the pre 94 Goa music, you should take a look at the compilation "Gonzo Goa - Party Music 87’- 94’". A selection of Early Techno, New Beat, Post Punk and Acid that were played in goa parties in that era. A part of history !

I went to a Panjaea party at a squatted church in St John's Wood on Christmas Day 1992 or 93, not entirely sure! The church itself was the chilllout lit soley by candles, and where the aisle should be was filled with water with more candles floating within. The decks were on the altar and Mixmaster Morris djed half the night. Off to the side was another room playing proto goa, then in the morning some time The Higher Intelligence Agency played live in the church. An amazing party. Great to stumble across this documentary!

At least, we have this kind of gems for those who couldn't "turn the page" once listened to this cosmic sounds.

A few examples of absolutely killing songs (8 to 9/10) from these past few weeks :

      PharaOm - Geish V
Fiery Dawn and Merr0w - Inside the Lunar Crater
      Xenomorph - Dying Sun
      Artifact303 - From the Stars

      Synchro - Vacant Vacation
      K.U.R.O. - Ginga

Damn man, every time I think I understand the trance scene I learn more and more.
This documentary is like a history book. I was born in '91 but I still understand the 'feeling of change' that was in the air at the time.
It's hard for someone who was a baby when this happened to explain how this scene impacted my life 25 years later, but my heart, soul and passion has always been about the Trance music.
Hearing Mark talk about the shamanistic side of how he cared more about healing society through the simple act of dance just opened my eyes even more to what the trance scene is. It's not just music, it really was a lifestyle and I wish I could have experienced that.
This is such a good documentary, and even today, when I thought Trance was a terminology related to music, I can see the bigger picture and I hate that I missed out on what I feel I was supposed to be a part of.
After watching this, all I can do is take their advice and try to spread a little joy, no matter how insignificant it may be to someone, every little detail and act you perform hopefully re-ignites that faith in society.
Sorry if I am rambling but this was something that I feel I was 'meant' to be a part of and I missed it.
But I hope that me and my four friends can (not replicate it) but bring back the idea of dancing physically away for a few hours, to get the problems out of your system. This is far-fetched I know but I feel we need to attempt to follow in these footsteps whether we are successful or not.

    • @pleasure1689
      @pleasure1689 Год назад +3

Everything you said I agree with. Trance is a lifestyle and it is about healing people. I've really emphasized this in my personal productions as of recently. It's motivated me to create. You can still bring this music into your life and you can experience Trance now, Better than ever. Trance will see its return inevitably. Be ready to ride that wave.

@@pleasure1689 Jojoba! Now that is the kind of music we were making a few years back in '19
Well, we would turn up at open mic nights with me programming a 909 and a 303 (the real ones which got some attention) and phil, who is almost a spitting image of Jason in physical appearance and spirituality, would play his bongos/congas (i'm not sure which the big tall ones are called) and joe would play bass, and Kieran would hype everyone up, dancing or just calling people to get moving, you know the drill.
Jojoba and Walk on the Wild Side is almost a blueprint for the music we were making but we had never heard them before. I loved those nights. We were going to follow this Electronic Open Mic Night around the UK, then into France and play at tents. Technical problems arose (my 909 is dead) and it was hard to find or open venues that would let us run a night (even for one week)

Zanimljiv dokumentarac. Fan sam trancea do početka 2000tih. Vratite nam trance!

Yeah, bang on the money, Vicky! Mark Maurice started the goa-trance scene in London cerca 1992, after he got back from Goa where he put on parties. A few years later the commercial, soul-less vultures nicked his idea and turned it into filthy lucre. Very few from that scene had any true soul, genuine idealism. Mark Maurice was one of the exceptions. He was a true pioneer. Vicky, as to your question, where is Mark now? A friend of mine met up with him recently in Bristol. He is living somewhere near Bristol.

Here in my little city of now 43 000 habitants,we have had in 1996 a second hand shop with a very big second hand casette area.
From the size it was around 300 sqmeters big and also the single and LP Area like that.
There were many undecribed casetts and i heard them..
and was almost from the beginning somehow stoned.
The casetts were musicstylelike from the 70-ties until the Mid90-ries all sorts of styles.
Maybe the person was in these first goa parties somewhere made these records and forgot them and they were tooken to that second hand shope the casetts still are at my parents house in the attic very wel sorted.
The second hand shop is no longer since2002.

I remember having a subscription to one of those "Promo Only" type services where they would send between five and ten pieces of vinyl every week. Then going to the local record shop and spending $10-$20 bucks on a single piece of vinyl. $25-$30, if it was an import. Sometimes, there was only one or two songs. The radio edit, a couple of remixes by some other artists. Then putting together the set, getting familiar with the new tracks with their breaks, build-ups and drops, throwing some of the definite floor fillers in there, all for the fun of it.

I wasn't even born until 95, my first exposure to trance was in 02 or 03 with GTA 3, the trance radio station RISE FM, blasting that shit every time I was in a car. It spoke to me, like a divine intervention, the voice of God, still to this day I listen to the divine scripture of 138bpm+, every chance I get. Trance is my lifeblood, and I've never heard it quite like this ❤️

Anyone remember D.J. Macman? He played at Focal Point a few times.
What about Dave the Brummie Biker? He was a real character. I lost contact with him and he ain't on Facebook.
Great club, great D.J. Miles better than the rubbish these days.

the dubstep scene and how it is wouldn't exist if it were not for goa.

    • @sirtrancealot

The early Dubstep scene ('00-'04) had similar traits of the trance scene. People came together to listen to music that, back then, was more hypnotizing, to make you move your body as the tunes played. And just like trance, it got popular, got ruined and now everyone thinks dubstep is screeching metal. Just like everyone thinks trance is hands in the air, wait for the supersaw sound and drop. It happens with all music genres over the years.
But yes Goa Trance is the purest form of Trance.

This is all really nice and nostalgic but it's almost impossible to keep this idealistic outlook on life for an extended period of time. You need to start some spiritual practice like shamanism and/or keep taking the drugs. Nearly everyone loses their enthusiasm for the 'evolution of consciousness' when life and family responsibilities start taking up most of your energy. There are exceptions for sure, but that's what they are - exceptions.
Ah, there's no time like your 20s, when you're innocent, physically and mentally strong, with minimal responsibilities and you think changing the world is only a matter of spreading the good word...
Having said all that, huge amounts of respect for people who, despite what I said, keep the faith.

Fair enough and, as I said, kudos to you. Honestly, with no sarcasm or patronisation. I still enjoy psychedelic music massively but I can't say I follow the lifestyle and ideology, apart from 'don't do to others what you don't want them to do to you.'

That's how it goes. You evolve your conscioucness a bit, then you settle make kids. They evolve their conscioucness a bit, then they settle, have kids. Then those too evolve their consscioucness a bit, they settle, make love and have beautiful children. They learn to them how to evolve thier conscioucness ... Tradition be born

It was all about 'the vibe' no one is looking at the DJ ,not a phone in sight. They are pushing each other higher through dance.Sure ,lots of drugs were consumed but they were just a tool.Panjaea was unique ,they were promoting positivity not fake spirituality or the massive sales of drugs. That is why they were pushed out of the scene & air-brushed from the history of the Trance movement .But 90,000 people plus have watched this video so the hatchet job didn't work. Many of the so called 'legends' of the scene were & are nothing more than money grabbing phonies ,false prophets out for profit.
