A Bowie knife is an excellent tool to have in your pack. It is super versatile. It is great for both chopping and carving. It does the job of both a hatchet and a fixed blade knife. It can do the job of two tools. Here we demo the Western Bowie which I think is the best Bowie knife you can have.
My dad had a Western from the mid 60s until he passed away. Many camping and backpacking miles on it. I now have it.
Good points. It’s no accident the Marines chose a Bowie for their famous combat utility knife. I remember when those Western Bowie’s were sold. Wish I had bought one then!
Got my W-49 in 1987. Carried, and used, it for nine years straight working on a cattle ranch in Texas.
I still have it. It’s earned a place in one of my “first-grab” go-bags.
My dads western rig has his 45 on the right side and this western Bowie on the left side. I have it hanging off my mounted set of Longhorns in my office ....
Miss ya dad.
I never new what one could do with a knife amazing.
I've always had a love for Bowie knives ever since my uncle gave me one of his handmade knives over 30 years ago & I've owned quite a few production Bowies also Case, Western etc, as for store bought the Cold Steel Trail master is hard to beat. 🤙
Those Western Kinves are great knives - the heat treatment is proprietary, and they keep an edge better than any long knives I have ever owned...
i have a pakistan one the guard broke but it digs and prys rocks and strips bark and pounds
Managed to get an older guard stamp one earlier today , should get here soon
I am getting that Cold Steel Wild West Bowie asap!!! It is badass,...
I got it, I love it!!!
Takes a damn fine edge too!!! They mailed the heat treat on the 1090 with the wild west Bowie from cold steel!!!
I always carry a Bowie knife on me at all times here in the state of Tennessee its Legal to carry them as long as it can be seen on your side
Same as Georgia !
Texas don't care if they can see it or not!!!
Same with Oklahoma and Arkansas!!! No size or concealment restrictions. Just a very few locations like schools and such
Also Oklahoma is constitutional carry for firearms!!!
I EDC a Cold Steel Laredo bowie. I really like the W49 though
I like it, good job.
Thanks!
you need a mike, out at 0:46
No, a hatchet is much better you can do a lot with it if it's real sharp. I've skinned a lot of squirrels with mine and made many trap triggers with it. I knew a man who skinned muskrats with his hatchet. I do like a good bowie knife for bush craft as well. It does better cutting through briers than the hatchet. If i want to travel lighter then I pack the bowie.
I bought my Bowie ( used) from a retired police officer.
Where did you find that bowie? Looks like a western 49 or turtleman copy?
Kittery Trading Post in Maine , years ago www.kitterytradingpost.com/
It is a Western. As far as I know, they don't make them anymore.
Dart Frog Wilderness Survival I had one back in the 80s. Great knife. Miss mine.
@@dartfrogwildernesssurvival3711 they do not , Western is still in limbo sadly
I'm glad I got my guard stamp one cheap
@@dartfrogwildernesssurvival3711 cCan you disclose the date code on your blade? Mine is a 1981 production...really nice quality all around...very underrated blades that were $30 bucks at the local K-Mart...
Shows a tent stake and says this is what you'd do!!! Nope, I can do a hell of a lot more than that!!!
I have come to the conclusion that no one on youtube knows how to use a large knife as a brushing and fire wood tool !
review after eview and some even say that a knife is not a good chopper when they are unskilled city bumbs !
W49! More better!!
The western Bowie is actually mint for fighting. Not bush craft. Many American soldiers in Vietnam carried the western Bowie in battle. One of the greatest Bowie's made. Well until it was sold to camillus in the 80's. Camillus changed the steel to stainless instead of the originals that were hand forged in high carbon 1095. Get a old one from the early years. They are much better built than the camillus ones.
Good to know. My dad had one of the older ones from years back ( probably 70s maybe 80s ). Mine was bought somewhere shortly after 2000 I think.
@@dartfrogwildernesssurvival3711 if it was a 70's model your dad had, chances are it was a soldiers Bowie. Cheers brother.
Best Bowie knife demo????
Boo-wee that’s how you say it
Booowie! Jim Booowie not David Bowie
Cam is too far away ... 😉✌️
Let’s make a vid on a great knife but film from a ridiculous distance
LOL, can't argue with that. So many things I could have done better with this video.
Best? Not by a long shot.
Too much knife for you buddy, but thanks for the review anyways.
