The best way to get around the province is to have your own wheels - either rent a car or RV when you arrive or if you live in Canada, bring your own vehicle.
Nova Scotia is a destination that can be visited year-round, but for most of the activities on this list, you’ll want to visit during the warmer spring and summer months.
Let’s get started with the best things to do in Nova Scotia
#1 on this list is Tidal Bore Rafting
Two times a day, the tides in the Bay of Fundy rise and fall (between 3.5 meters (11ft) and 16 meters (53ft)).
When this massive influx of water meets the Shubenacadie River, the two collide to create rapids, waves, and a whole lot of swells.
With tidal bore rafting, you hop in a zodiac and fly over the waves!
2. Go Hiking
There are some great trails in the province where you can stretch your legs.
Nova Scotia is home to two National Parks, one National Park Reserve, and numerous Provincial and Historic Parks.
But, it’s popular for good reason!
3. Go Whale Watching
You’ll find excellent whale watching opportunities in the Bay of Fundy just outside of Digby on the Digby Neck (peninsula) and off of Cape Breton Island.
The whales start arriving in early spring and stay until fall, but typically, the humpbacks don’t show up until mid-June.
Both whale watching spots in Nova Scotia offer the chance to see humpback, fin, and minke whales.
4. Go Kayaking
Since Nova Scotia is surrounded almost completely by water, and home to numerous coves, bays, and islands, kayaking is one of the top activities here.
There are lots of places you can go paddling, but we recommend Blue Rocks, which is a community just outside of Lunenburg.

5. Visit Vineyards
The Annapolis Valley is known for being wine country and with stunning views of the Bay of Fundy and 11 wineries to visit, it’s a place you’ll want to spend some time.
Don’t miss: Benjamin Bridge, Luckett, and Gaspereau vineyards.
6. Do Some Camping
Since this video is about a Canadian province, it’s no surprise that camping makes it on this list of activities in Nova Scotia.
7. Go Fishing
fishing is one of the best things to do in this maritime province.
Whether you’re into fly fishing or deep sea fishing, you’ll find it here.
Just outside of Inverness on Cape Breton Island is Margaree Forks, this is a top spot for fly fishing - 40-pound salmon run the Margaree River here.
8. Road tripping
Driving around the province is an activity in itself! The Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island is one of the most scenic routes in North Amreica.
9. Take in a Festival
Whether you’re into music, food, crafts, art, history, or sports, there will be a fun festival that interests you here in Nova Scotia.
10. Follow One Of The Trails
A really cool thing to do in Nova Scotia that I haven’t seen anywhere else is to follow one of the food and drink trails around the province.
There are 3 trails:
Lobster Trail
Chowder Trail
Good Cheer Trail
This is a great way to learn about the best places that serve lobster, chowders and booze in the province.

It’s no wonder that lobster and chowder have their own trail for you to follow. Nova Scotia is home to some of the best seafood we’ve ever tried!

I live in a small fishing village in Nova Scotia , there is so much going on here in the summer that the main street is cut down to just 1 lane ..
I like Nova Scotia... Very beatiful..
It's not only moose on the Skyline trail, I have personally seen a black bear, and a number of years back a young lady was jogging it alone when attacked and killed by coyotes.
I saw one of my aunt’s cottages!
Recommend the provencal park beaches on the bay of Fundy. Port Maitland beach and mavalette beach. Are just a few in SW NOVA

Can’t wait, I’ll be heading to Oak Island museum, lock and key near Lunenburg which was a TV show my daughter and I would watch, it’s like an old mansion. And of course Peggy’s Cove and the waterfront down in Halifax.

Enjoyed your video but you missed the sand castle competition at Clam Harbour, surfing at Laurencetown Beach, Lunenburg, sailing, a number of forts and museums including the Fortress of Louisburg, the magic of Halifax, delight of small coastal villages, the incredible beauty of the ocean and beaches stretching for miles. .
The pumpkin festival at Halloween in Mahone Bay is one of my favorites, or just getting up early to watch the sun rise out of the ocean. Nova Scotia is AMAZING!!!

I was going say that the worst clothes you have are the best for the rafting because they will be the same color as the water after the trip,now i want to add one more comment , at all costs,get a feed of Digby scallops ,l am not even from that area! Great video!!
Absolutely! We wore black clothes for that reason. haha. Digby scallops are the best!
Annapolis is also a must see. It is the oldest British settlement in Canada. Home to Fort Anne, the oldest British graveyard, the oldest hotels and twenty minutes away fro Port Royal a replica of the first French fort. Also home to the first tidal powered power plant . The tides that come up into the Annapolis basin are incredible.

I loved scallops as a young girl in the the 90's. They are hard to find at restaurants now. Then again, I have not looked in years! I bet they cost an arm and leg now.

@@Goatsontheroad Nova Scotia has black bears, no Grizzly bears. Black bears are fairly peaceful . The three times I saw them here, they ran away before I could.

You absolutely nailed it!!! Great video! Our retirement adventure was a 3 month cross-Canada journey from Vancouver to PEI and back. Having a large family in Nova Scotia, we spent a lot of time on Cape Breton Island and the Mainland. My cousin is a lobster fisherman on the Island so we enjoyed freshly caught lobster and visitors should never pass up a fresh Nova Scotia lobster. It was nice to see that you also profiled Digby scallops because they, too, are amazing. Baddeck is interesting to visit with a lot of Alexander Graham Bell history and The Bluenose just happened to be there the day that we visited. The Keltic Lodge on the Cabot Trail is quite nostalgic and the golf course somewhat resembles a links course, if that's something you would like to try and also a visit to the Fort of Louisbourg - on Cape Breton Island just outside of Sydney, NS is definitely worth a visit. It truly is a beautiful province.

I know many Nova Scotians who have never watched the tidal bore let alone gone rafting on it. I gotta do this myself soon. I’m happy you mentioned kayaking, I’ve been considering getting into it, I wonder if ocean kayaking is suitable for noobs 🤔?

We took our honeymoon at whitepoint, beautiful place, cute little bunnies hoping around. Good friends rented Murphy’s on the waterfront for their wedding, it was amazing but a tallship wedding is as Nova Scotia as it gets wow, hope it’s great!

Thanks! Ya, there are whales, fish, etc. And, if you're brave enough to hit up the chilly Atlantic, there are lots of shore dives around Halifax actually! Lots of macro critters, lobsters, shrimp, crabs, snails, nudibranchs, flat fish, and more.
It has a lot to offer with Seafood and swimming and overall just saltwater related stuff!
There are salt water beaches all around N.S. Surfing on the Eastern shore, and diving with WET SUITS and Scuba anywhere. Lots of old wrecks to explore,just ask. Seafood restaurants abound. Hundreds of wilderness lakes and campgrounds.

Great video guys! Would love to tack that on to a large Canada road trip some day in the near future. The ending of the video has now left me hungry for bacon wrapped scallops haha. Of course it would be cold AF but is there any diving up that way?
hahah, sorry to leave you hungry! The east coast of Canada is amazing and actually, there is some diving - but as you said, super cold. Lots of macro sightings, lobsters, shrimp, crabs, snails, nudibranchs, flatfish, and more. There's some shore diving off of Halifax. Thanks for the comment 😀
You might try diving in the BrasD'or in the centre of Cape Breton. The water is somewhat warmer there. But you can wreck dive off of Louisbourg I believe that there may be some old (1700s) wrecks out there.
