The Jupiter thing is so embarrassing... Imagine thinking that a 3D model is a romantic rival. Can't believe that so many people admitted that they were threatened by them lol
I remember the incident well. No one knew the real plans for im@s 2 back then but if Bamco was straight up honest about it and said that im@s 2 was a soft reboot of the franchise, the backlash and confusion would have been avoided. Eventually the PS3 release that came after the anime was in a way a great big apology and gave you a chance to play through Ryuugu Komachi's storyline. Also seeing Jupiter being slandered before the game came out and then realising that when you played through it, that they were only rivals and never were going steal the girls away in the first place. Kinda silly now looking back at it in hindsight. Still it was a harsh lesson for Bamco to learn and in a way it helps solidify the im@s franchise as a whole afterwards. It's a fond memory to go back to now. Here's to another 15 years of idolm@ster. IMASですよ! IMAS!
Came here after Bandai Namco announced the closure of SideM Growing Stars on July 31, 2023. This is the third SideM game being terminated. The first was Live on Stage in 2021, and Mobage in 2022. In addition, SideM franchise is solely focusing over its producing new songs and live concerts while there's no longer any new social games from it in the future.
I didn't even know such an incident happened before Most I knew in the past was about the harassment Yurika Ochiai received in the past which ended up having her give up her role as Yukiho and so had to be replaced I guess as well I was in secondary school around the time of the events and there's only so much that would have circulated across the world back then, plus at that time I wouldn't've been able to understand what happened because I only started taking an interest in Japanese stuff and the language 2 years prior so was more or less a beginner Thanks for covering this tho! Wouldn't've known about this incident otherwise :'>
I'm so proud of how the 315 boys have persisted and even managed to win over the most hateful "girls only, ew men" homophobic P's, to the point where their concerts are massive hits and launched the careers of multiple seiyuu! ...even if being a nogames half complete anime SideMP is suffering. Thank you for this little well-researched documentary!
@XD NDZ yeah. Which got its backlash bcs of the end of service of MSt@ge(Live on St@ge). They got Growing Stars now but 3D Live are pre-rendered. That's how BanNam is hating the SideM Branch.
Looking back, things sure have changed. With THE iDOLM@STER SideM GROWING STARS shutting down on July 31st, 2023, things are obviously not looking very good for the SideM franchise... :(
It's kinda ironic how the whole theme of im@s 2 is unity, having one of the all stars image song being "the world is all one". But then the marketing team must have missed the note on that since they probably planned the whole master artist CD voting disaster. Ryuguu komachi not being playable on release was understandable since most of the seiyuus were already pretty famous at that point and so there must be a ton of scheduling conflicts. But at least you could still see them sing in the S4U mode before the ps3 release made them playable.
Man our boy Matsuoka got slammed.. damn Imas fans in this time period are savage. Matsuoka is freakin nice as hell. Oh well Evil Bamco Execs and devs are the douches in this incident
Jeez this incident was a mess. Removing members started this fire and Jupiter's addition just added more dangerous fuel to the fire. I question with a lot of Namco Bandai's decision on this incident. This is probably the reason why Side M suffered a lot throughout the years.
Now i just wonder if there's going to be backlash when some of their favorite idols didn't make it into starlit season. I know people are already complaining about the lack of SideM content
This reminds me of how fans were upset Scorpion was removed from Mortal Kombat 3 so Midway had to make "Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3" which did include Scorpion, and Scorpion would be in every game from that point on.
Post anime I'm not actually certain as I'm an ENG fan and can't speak on JPN fanbase, but I think by that time initial vitriol fans had towards them likely calmed down and went into a state of neutrality with popularity slowly rising due to the anime. With the introduction of SideM in 2014 and Jupiter's addition to its roster, they've secured a firm and dedicated fan base and large popularity. ( likely with a larger female fanbase than male, but SideM still has a BUNCH of male fans too). It's funny what a few years will do to characters so initially hated. I've been an im@s fan since 2008- early 2009 so I've seen so many fluctuations happen within the series itself. The im@s fan climate has grown and changed so much the past decade.
At 1:40 you mention the phrase "Imas desu yo, Imas". I know generally that its called at the end of imas lives but I was wondering what a translation of that phrase would mean and if theres any history about its origin??? I can't seem to find any info about it anywhere
You really... need to not give out such spoilers like that I was waiting for the TOD2 English patch to be worked on to play and you just dropped that without no real warning and nor was it even needed to get your point across that is ridiculous fucking hell.

Poor Naomi, I don't know why they left them to deal with it! So rude.....

and now some people are boycotting because they didn't include SideM in Starlit Season
male imas really can't catch a break, huh
Wow. But maybe is because people are more easily irritated now.
Our bois deserve better :(

Bamco execs = Kuroi Takao IRL.

that explains why SideM's game always terminated not once (Live on Stage) but twice (Growing Stars)..

And now Naughty Dog are having their OWN 9.18 Incident with Last of Us 2
Same for Battlefield V

I really wonder what people’s opinions of Jupiter was post anime. I haven’t seen much reporting on it

@@andreacleveland4106 from what i understand male idol spin offs tend to have a 50%men fan base. same with kinpri if i remember correctly
@@mohmohthesmog7179 That sounds about right! I like how more men are giving male anime idol series a chance as of late!
Glad that I didn't fell into the rabbit hole of IdolMaster after discovering this.

it is a reference to Haruka's DOMU DESU YO DOMU ruclips.net/video/XtL_d3jGYXA/видео.html
Ice I said the animals can't do manual labor deal with it

I can't understand.
