- Everything you need to know about shopping in England, both in supermarkets and on the high street. In this video, you will learn the difference between the main English stores and supermarkets so that when you’re next in the UK you will know the best place to do your shopping at the best price for your budget. I’ll also teach you specific vocabulary related to doing your shopping for everyday items in supermarkets and at the corner shop. I have so much to tell you about shopping in England, which may be different to the stores you have or the way of shopping in your home country. That's why I have included plenty of my personal observations about going shopping in my country. This video will be useful to tourists to the UK as well as to people who have moved here or who are planning to move here in the future.

Thank you Jade, you are great teacher and the most important: a good person.
Taking an hour of your time to explain it to us is awesome. Thank you!
Absolutely fab! Thanks! I love the fact that you use proper English. Most of the teachers talk to students like dummies.
Jade is adorable. Love how she gets to the heart of the subject in such a charming and humble way. A joy to the eyes also.
Thank you so much Jade. The fact that you made this lesson for us, international students of English, is proof that you want us to learn English culture. And for that, you have become my favorite ESL teacher. Keep doing what you're doing. You deserve more students and a lot more subscribers!
I love the way Jade always starts her videos by jumping from screen left with a wave xxx
It's nice that you include your own observations. Thank you Jade!
Jade thank you sooo much, Love your videos its been three years and Im so happy that you keep making content then more people get more educated.
"and according to my Mom..." and here I started to laugh outload, nice one. That makes such videos not so boring
Thank you so much Jade. You explain all of shopping with so many details and history.
Thank you so much for this thorough lesson! You gave us a lot of advice how to go shopping in the UK, particularly in London. All the best, Jade!)
That was amazing! So much information for us learners. Thank you so much!
Hi Jade! Thanks a bunch for explaining where and how to do shopping in England! Great guidance! Also, thanks a lot for your manner of really natural British English and for speaking, sort of, just straight out of your mind! Not from a script. So, that was coolest experience of English for me ever! You look stunning too! Have a nice day and take care!
Love your videos! You reminded me of my kind English teacher back in the days of my childhood.
Jade, the best teacher, ever!
Thanks for great videos, Im lookin forward to new ones.
There is also one thing about corner shops. ıt's buying oyster card and toping up to your oyster card for daily, weekly(7days) and montly(29days) to use transportation.
You're awesome, the perfect teacher! Thanks! God bless you! Regards from Milan!
Hi Sweetie, yes both Lidl and Aldi are German. 🌺
And?
@@weltfrieden3031 And both Lidl and Aldi are German.
@@timsummers870 i know but they are in uk too, and pronounced differently
@@weltfrieden3031 in Germany there are Aldi North and Aldi South.
Hi, sweetie - she's talking about supermarkets who TRADE in Britain - not supermarkets who ARE British. BIG difference. Many visitors from non-European countries will not necessarily know of Lidl and Aldi but in conversation with Brits may well hear these companies mentioned. THAT'S what this video is about.
Respect to this lesson!
Excellent! I'm from Canada and this video was extremely helpful. Thanks you're a sweetheart Jade :]
Anotherone of your fantastic videos, thanks. It helps a lot.
Thanks a lot for your explanations Jade, they are very helpful to have a clear idea where to buy when people travel to England,I remember when I was to London some years ago in Christmas festivities that I used to buy in Sainsbury's because some of them were located in the north of
London where I was staying spending my vacations.I remember that I found there a great variety of beverages...Lidl is in spain as well in almost everywhere......Thanks again and have a great day.
Enjoyed the video as it reminded of the days in England! Nostalgiaaaa,😪😪🤗🤗🤗
I am currently living in UK and it so helpful thanks Jade!

Hello jade, im born and raised in London
This video was quiet informative and well summarised for the learning viewers
I used to live in the uk for many years & I just enjoy to listen your stuffs
Lots of shopping choices in England!
'Taste the difference' (sainsburys) , 'extra special' (tesco) and 'deluxe'(asda) are names given by these supermarkets to a supposedly more elite product range. However, Sainsburys catch phrase in it's ad campaign is 'try something new today', not 'taste the difference' which asu said, is a range of foods within sainsburys.
Thank you Jade, great video!
Thank you so much Jade! All heroes don't wear caps
That was super interesting! Thanks a lot 😍
Thanks Jade, i really enjoy this kind of video that introduce English living information, because i just came stay here and don't everything, that really helpful for me.
I am from California USA. A few years ago we had a caregiver for my mother. The young lady was from Perth Australia. She went to a supermarket and asked for a "trolley" . Everybody tried to help her even the manager. No one could figure out what she wanted. Her Aussie dialect at first for her was undecipherable to start. Finally it was found out that she wanted a "shopping cart" . The words "trolley" , "shopping cart" and "buggy" is used in different areas in the English speaking world. Maybe basket as well, but usually that would be handheld.
I love your lessons , thank you ,
Great to learn this. Thank you so much!
Really useful. Thanks a million!
Thanks a lot for such interesting information!!
I've learnt quite a lot of things. 💜🌷
explain so clearly and nicely. like that accent ! when I was there, I mostly get Tesco as it's close to the University, or Sainbury's, corner shops when I get to town...or the market....nice experiences and miss all that
I think teaching English flows in every vein of yours, brilliant 👌
Hi dear. 🙂 So many memories when I used to go to London. 🤗❤️ Thanks a lot. 😁 Hi from Vietnam 😊🇻🇳
Love your guide! When i went to London as a teenager i actually got lost in the Primark you mentioned! 😂
It was very interesting 'trip' among the various shops, thank you. Yes, Tesco is getting worse and worse also in Hungary.
Great lesson again thank you 😊
I used to pack my stuff at the counter in Lidl and Aldi in Glasgow. I was always super fast 🤣 I agree with you on Sainsbury's. It's super expensive.
It's a great video and a great effort. Thank you very much.
What a beautiful lesson. You’ll exhausted being standing..
Excellent lesson,Jade, very entertaining! Congrats!
thank you Jade you are the best teacher
Amazing lesson! Thanks a lot!
This video is from 2018. Eventually it'll all be run by Amazon anyways!
Here in the USA, the deal is known as a "bogo" (with hard o's like "go"), so it can be "buy one, get one..." free, half off, whatever.
Great to learn all these
Great thanksssssss !
Clear and precise comments
You are a very very good teacher!
Very informative , thanks !
Really helpful, thanks very much 😊
Excellent video!! Valuable knowledge!!! I wish that video was there 10 years ago when I came to England. Thank you very much, Jade!!!🌷🌺🍀

Our self scanners also say "unexpected item in bagging area" too depending on the store.
Finally, a family member cited; your mum. Oh, Jade, I hope you a good girl taking care of her. It is said paradise is under the foot of our mothers.
I really need this lesson
I like your video so much, thank you, Jade, you are the angel.
Asda !As I could forget the second time I came around Edinburgh, I used to go together with Mrs, whom welcomed me there , we did so a lot of shopping at good and flabbergast prices ; too much cheaper . . .
Good and Unforgetable missing or longings !
Very informative video! Thank you!
Excellent tutorial!
In Lincolnshire and I believe in Northern England, the very wide-spread mini markets are the Co-ops. You find them in most of the villages ; they stay open late usually , a bit like the corner shops in London. They sell all the basics, but also alcohol and cigarettes. They have fidelity cards which gives you back some money from your purchases so because of this, you don't mind so much that their prices are a bit higher than the ones at the larger supermarkets which are found mostly on the outskirts of larger towns and cities.
The thing you said about packing your stuff at Lidl/Aldi is so funny because that's typically German (I experienced in every supermarket I went to when I lived in Germany). To me, it's all about efficiency
There are self checkouts in Sweden also. But extra checks are random. So once in a while you get a message that the staff will check your items.
It's very useful.thanks!
Thanks for the lesson.
Oh my love Jade - You reminds me my UK colleague who emphasized he uses Queen's English
Awesome ! Thanks
The mere thought of an Asda ready meal has me heaving.
They are quite nice actually
Good quality. Freshly made and reasonably priced.
You cannot knock it till you've tried it..
Jade! Love you too much, thanks 😘😘
Thank you so much for your work. Love it. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧big applause 👏🏻 from southern Germany 🇩🇪 😊. ALDI and LIDL: that’s right, hurry up, paying quickly, not funny but cheap. In German they are classified as “Discounter” (discount market), they are not classified as supermarket (with fresh products like cheese, meat etc.)
Aldi and Lidl are from Germany. Keep up your good work Jade.
Aldi and Lidl are both German discounters and super popular here in Germany ... According to the sales figures Aldi is Germany’s leading distributor of organic products...
This is hilarious! 🤣😂 I love the simple use of language and so many misconceptions! 😂🤣😂
Thank you Jade. you are the best
There's a big Morrison in Camden.
There are also relatively big MnS in Chalk Farm road and Hampstead!
Well done. Very informative.
Thank you so much 😍😍
Ijjkk
I love learning about different stores and markets in different countries. Here in Canada (at least Western Canada) our most common food markets that originated in Canada are the Real Canadian Superstore...yes that's its full name (usually we just call it Superstore like we call Tim Horton's "Timmie's") and it's, IMHO, the best large box store with really cool products and tons of stuff...you can buy a real Christmas tree, books, yoga supplies and then of course food. Sounds a little like Marks & Spencer), Overwaitea, IGA, Save-on-Foods, No Frills, London Drugs, SuperValu (yes, without an E on the end) etc. In Vancouver, where I live, H Mart and T&T are also popular (they originated in Asia and have cool things like black fungus hot pot and dim sum type meals to go).
Thank you jade:)
Such a wonderful, interesting and useful lesson Jade! I enjoyed every single minute of this!
Thanks for the vid
A gorgeous class ! 👏👏👏👏👏👏Un abrazo, from Olivos, Buenos Aires, Argentina🇦🇷🏴🇬🇧
I remember going to a Whole Foods grocery store in London. When I stay in Covent Garden, I always shop at the local Tesco. Sadly, the M&S closed up.
Interesting - here, M&S is mostly considered a clothing brand, for the longest time I had no idea they sold food as well. I think people are boing groceries there more often now though. I like their ginger snaps and their Christmas pudding is fairly decent, too (and they make a glutten free one).
Dear! You seem to be describing Mexican corner shops ripping you off and supermarkets shoving you out with your bags! I felt home!😁
Fantastic teacher
Well done Jade !
