Might have had twin disks but they weren't exactly brilliant at stopping the bike in the wet. I had both variants GS550 and the GS550E. The E version I said stood for economy. The carbs were different between the two versions. The get up and go feeling wasn't the same either as the original 550 had. But they did corner extremely well.
@@bertiesworld I've been riding a 1978 Triumph T140 for the last 30 years so, believe me, the brakes on my GS550L are a big improvement. Although mine was originally a 1980 GS550LT, someone has fitted it with a 1977 engine with the earlier VM22SS carbs, so performance is like the earlier model, but with the later brakes.
Really nice conditions!! That was my first bike in the far 1988...
It looks brand new. Wish I could find one in that condition
Nice condition. UK versions (like mine) came with twin discs on the front. I never could understand why they were sold in the US with single disc.

Is your seat original or redone? i have a 78 550 with a vinyl seat that doesnt look like yours and has seen better days.
redone by our regular upholstery guy
Yeah seat is wrong and side cowling is missing the “E” son not original but a nice bike
wait. it says 550 not 550e ??????
they didn't add E to emblem until the next model year VIN designation is E and clearly mag wheel model indicates E
@@coldduc1 what does the E mean in gs550 E?
@@samerkurani3364 The "E" has a disc brake at the rear wheel, while the "non-E" has a drum brake.
