    @Thebattousay When I was a kid, I had it for shaving pencils. It was selling at a stationary shop regularly 50 years ago. And it is now still selling for some reason. It had no blade locking mechanism and its short bar as a lock under the thumb was not able to stabilize the blade in my old memory. Thanks.

    That Mr. Itou is a thing of beauty Wako. And.....thanks to you I visited my local knife shop today. Next week I'll be picking up a BR Gunny and a Fox River. So, it looks like I'll go ahead and retire the Cold Steel SRK for this year's deer season!

    @virtuovice I see. Well, the fact that you're even considering using such a high-end knife in the field puts you way ahead of most knife collectors/users in my mind. Kudos.
    I like using and not just collecting, too.
    And there's also something very enjoyable and satisfying about using gorgeous, exquisite things, as opposed to just admiring them from a distance.

    I used Mr. Itou knife just once. His blade is very thin and its tip bent. It didn't chip. From that experience I can say R2 is no brittle. Anyway its blade is very thin and it is not a real used knife but a kind of collectible piece to admire. Thanks.

    @asg00001 In my experience a sharp tip like this always chipped off smaller or larger after hunting use. I have ever restored many micro chips on the tip. Then the new tip got stronger and more practical. Regularly the chip is very tiny, so it will be restored beautifully with gradual regrind from a belly portion. Thanks.

    R2 is a japanese powdered metallurgy that is a proprietary steel made by Mr. Itou. The real name probably isn't R2 much like Cold Steels "carbon V". The steel shares the same class as ZDP-189. Both are high resistance steels. R2 is a stainless steel that has smaller carbides than ZDP-189. Both R2 and Zdp-189 are oddities in that they can both reach extreme hardness levels without becoming brittle. (were talking 70+ HRC).

    Your link to this knife maker is good. I have used them and they are very nice to deal with. Many good knife makers there. I like Kiku Matsuda myself.

    Congratulations! A worthy addition to your collection.
    I love the way the edge polish follows the contour of the damascus pattern. It's a very "organic" look. On my screen, it's almost difficult to look at, like an optical illusion. That blade certainly deserves a fine home like that magnificent sheath. I think Mr. Ito spent a bit of time perfecting your knife.

    beautiful knife by mr. itou.
    i know of one kind R2 steel, but i don't know if it's the same. the one i know about is a carbide-steel (aka high-speed steel) used in replaceable tool bits (like dentist bits, engraving machine bits, etc). it retains very tough edge but somewhat brittle/not flexible. it will also be hard to sharpen

    @Urudrim Thank you! I think what you are saying is correct. It's a very thin blade and thin edge. I was thinking the R2 had to be a hard steel.

    @mz9393mz I will need to test how it holds its sharpness myself. I will put a bit stronger convex micro edge on it before the use. Its current micro edge is clearly too shallow for contacting bones. I am a bit anxious about its tip fragility. Thank you!

    @kinskibrain The HT-70 is really stunning! But Its steel is laminated VG-10 same as Fallkniven F1. So I am nervous about Its edge geometry. And it is rather pricey. The edge geometry of Fallkniven TK2 in 3G is very good though. Thanks.

    @kinskibrain I like VG-10 more than 3G too because it has good balance between hardness and toughness. I just don't like F1 geometry. Its bevel is flat from the spine to 2/3, and from there to the edge deep convex. Some explains that it is for toughness in survival use. But it is clearly duller than TK2. So I need high and shallow convex geometry like TK2 on my hunting knives. I just thought HT-70 could have the survival geometry like F1 because it was made of the same VG-10 steel as F1. Thanks.

    The sheath by Mr. Ito is one of the most beautiful sheaths I've ever seen.

    Because the steel is made only by Mr. Itou there is not much known about it although you could always ask Mr. Itou. :D

    @karlverhelst I found it there. They say it's a KOBELCO's quality steel but its composition is in secrecy. I will try it out myself in deer field dressing and let knife people know how it holds its edge. Thank you!

    The blade from Mr. Itou is very beautiful but its tip makes me wonder something.
    Mr. wako, if i my ask you, how do you think it would preform in percing. Although it would be light percing do you think it would be able to hold without chipping with prolonged use over the course of time?

    The white paper steel is widely used for forestry hatchets or such impact edged tools. It is much softer than the blue paper steel and needs a larger angle not to take rolls. It is not good for a sharp knife.
    Japese traditional round handle is not good in side holding for game dressing. For pinch holding the handle it is too thick between tumb and index finger. It is good only in fist holding for wood jobs. The wallnut version is quality high, but basically has the same thick handle. Thanks.

    hello wako. recently i saw this video and the other one that you show to us the toyokuni knife with the walnut handle. in your opinion wich of the them is better knife and why? i mean, better quality. quality of construction, quality of metal etc...thank you :)

    i don't know if you are familiar with the online knifeshop "japanesechefsknife", but they occasionally sell some custom Mr. Itou knives. I searched for it, but yours in particular is probably already sold out since they are made in very small batches.However, i found some info on the steel.
