I'm Native American/First People. My tribe/band allied with the US in the very beginning. The early settlers helped us by trading and allowed us to harbor in their fort when we were being attacked by another tribe. there were thousands of tribes, and not all experience were the same. Many allied with the US. Native Americans have the highest enlistment in the US Military per capita than any other ethnic group. They have since 1776. What better way to become a man by serving in war. And the US always had a place for us. Scouts and raiding parties mainly. Don't believe the Hollywood racism trope.

@@terrypussypower I did not ask rhetorically; I was genuinely curious. If one finds great value in the material comforts of modern civilization, then one can easily argue that the colonization was a blessing for the tribes which survived and adapted, though I would not argue such myself.
For an American of European ancestry, guilt over the conquest of the continent, and the consequences of said conquest, might often end up being self-indulgent virtue signaling. However, for a Norwegian whose ancestors had as much to do with the colonization of America as they had to do with the rape of Nanking, the story tells of how globalization, for better or worse, brought death upon local cultures and peoples from the very beginning. For me, the question's answer could potentially become an argument against the desirability of cross-civilizational or cross-continental imperiums, whether they be inevitable or not. It's really a question of utmost importance; the entire modern world might hinge on it.
@@phishENchimps As someone who is not native American, curiosity would make me interested in what kinds of "what if's" you would think up, but I would certainly agree that it does not sound healthy to obsess over such in a nostalgic manner.
As a consequence of having realized that only civilizational collapse could likely prevent my ethnicity from eventually becoming a minority in its own homeland, I think I can sympathize with taking comfort in the fact of still living on one's ancestral land, even if I am just imagining the hurdles to come for me and my descendants. As long as you are still at home, remember your roots, and have managed to keep your lineage sufficiently distinct from that of everyone else (rather than mixing everything in multicultural melting-pot of death), then over the course of time whichever "what if's" you are referring to could probably still be realized.
At this point, there are but a few people's left not in eventual danger of being erased; according to the African Migration report released last year, the total amount of inter-African migration doubled in a decade, now constituting roughly 2% of the continent's population each year. Keep this up indefinitely, and even the 3000 ethnicities of Africa will merge into a bland "African" ethnicity. Not even in the depths of Africa are people completely safe from globalization.
Nothing lasts forever though, not even the modern, globalized world. The suggestion that civilization progresses linearly towards greater and greater degrees of power, stability and comfort becomes ludicrous once you realize that there is no endpoint to this "progression", and that all of it is therefore self-serving. One day, this will all come crashing down on it's own accord. We are not, as what is now in some senses a global civilization, aiming for anything at all, and thus it's inevitable. The threat itself necessitates a reaction. When that day comes, then as long as we are still there, the immediate threat of extinction might end. Maybe those who have invaded your ancestral lands will feel called back to their own when the show is over. I imagine that I would, had I been a settler in foreign lands.
Europeans did what anyone else did, like the Mongols, Turks, Chinese, Arabs. Conquering other peoples territory and settling it, only difference is that Europeans were better at it than anyone else. Dont hate the player, hate the game. Or as Brennus told the Romans: "Vae victis!"

The funniest thing I ever heard the Iroquois do was sell Kentucky(a land they did not own, or live in) to the English colonies. They basically played arbiter for English Colonial and Native American land sales and it usually ended with the Iroquois strong arming whatever poor Indian tribe into selling their land to the English.

One of my English ancestors was an original settler of Jamestown. I have another that came over on the Mayflower. My direct paternal ancestor came to Massachusetts bay in 1631, on the same boat as Roger Williams. And I have a Dutch ancestor that was in New Amsterdam in the 1640’s. That scene with Sitting Bull was just great. It is true though. The Lakota lived in Minnesota and then got horses and basically conquered the Northern Great plains. One of the tribes they defeated actually tried to sue them for the land and they lost in court because why wouldn't the US courts recognize Right of Conquest.

Anything delving into the actual history of settlers interactions and pre-settler time is welcomed. Here in Canada we are force-fed a lot of bs about this kind of stuff and how we need to actively "de-colonialise" all of our institutions. At my work we have to take "indigenous cultural safety" training which is laced with the usual critical race theory crap mixed with selective history.

Especially seasons 1 - 3, the season finale of season 3 has a really bad CG effect for the main villain, but it doesn't ruin the series fortunately. It won't ruin.the enjoyment for you, some absolute classic episodes. And each seasons main villains are really fun. I know people like to hate Joss Whedon now but his characters are always well written.
