No regrets! I retired to Thailand 7 years ago and am still enjoying it. I've been living in Korat since, I'm a bit isolated here and it gets a wee bit boring after a while. However, to combat the boredom etc, I'm doing things like DIY projects, learning photography etc - something I never had time for before retirement. I frequently visit Pattaya to keep in touch with normality! My advice to anyone that's thinking of retiring here - find a hobby, keep busy and don't fall into the trap of sitting in bars most of your leisure time drinking!🙏
Excellent Wyn as they say knowledge is Power! While it's fresh in your interests perhaps make yerself a folio with all Info. from entry to being set up as a retiree. Well that was fun Wynn. Funny you point out the new Juicy Lucy club, because there was a band called Juicy Lucy and the original singer was Ray Owen, very talented lad a bit of a drinker and tearaway. I played guitar in one of his bands years ago, he was a great singer and we played some of the early Juicy Lucy songs as well as some we wrote together as a band. Well should I take a break from life here in UK and visit it would be great to see what the club is all about and how they decided on the name. Another iteration was Sweaty Betty, I guess that would be a good club too?
At the moment Wyn I tend to agree with you about Pattaya, been all over Thailand over the years with my wife 😂😂😂, we spent a month there last January after Vietnam before returning to Vietnam before flying back to cold wet Wales, we really enjoy it as we love a good night life. It’s got everything you can possibly want and a big us for us is transport is really cheap compared to Phuket , the Baht buses are great. were spending just over a month in Hua Hin this December before a fortnight to finish of in Pattaya so will see what its lime there, done 10 nights there in 2006 but didnt really see a lot of it . 🙏🍺
Another great video Wyn; aside from the obvious attraction to Pattaya/Jomtien, it’s good to see that there are so many other options as to what to do with your time when living there. Do you try to visit other places or mix up the routine a bit or are you a set routine kind of person? Horses for courses isn’t it? Whatever works for the person. I’m planning on moving out there Spring 2026 and will enjoy my visits there in the interim 🎉 ☀️ 😎 🍺 👙 🍹
Pattaya may be a great place for a new retiree, mainly because they will be able to do most things without any idea of the language or culture. Just as soon as they have made all of the basic mistakes, learnt a bit of the language, including the pronunciation of the place names, they should clear off to somewhere else as fast as they possibly can.
Hello friend I enjoy your videos, support from Spain,Pattaya it's ok,but you should visit chumphon nakhon thammarat surathani ranong rayong etc, places with coast and cheaper and not full Indians, noise, freelancers etc. Thank you for your videos
Glynn, can you do one on self control / taming the devil on your one shoulder? I guess this is like having Lionel Messi explain football but you obvs have seen many many many who struggle with it (and have ideas as to what they could have done differently - tell those stories!) so your input would be very valuable imho. I know you are financially a bit limited but doubt you'd act much differently if you had bundles of cash. If it's a struggle to explain what comes naturally you're allowed to use other's stories and google. Even if you don't like that subject tell some other stories - you're allowed to change names to protect the innocent! VIWERES LOVE STORIES I think this is one way you could differentiate yourself (besides the Clint Eastwood of Pattaya bit)!
@@toneloc-cz2xi Hi thanks for the feedback I hope that my vlogs are giving a story into my life retired in Thailand. My channel is based on information mostly and I just hope I can help people realise their dream. Thanks again 🙏
I have been to Pattaya 4 times in all, the first was in 1984, and it is unrecognisable now from then but i still love the place ! I would love to retire there but if you're of a certain age health insurance is almost unaffordable unless you're rich which sadly i am not, that is the stumbling block, if anyone has any ideas on somehow getting around this problem I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts, cheers everyone 😊
Keith: There are lots of guys like you here in Thailand retired with no insurance, it just depends on how you go about staying here with plenty info. on various sites advising about it. Some say it's useless @ your age due to the many personal problems un-admissable & better return home for serious health problems which many have done in the last year alone i.e. Ed Sweeney who had a novel way getting Holiday Insurance with border runs in & out. he being in his 60's with 32yrs self admitted alcoholic now back in UK with Glioblastoma cancer.
keithredshaw your asking the wrong person as there are lots of ex-pats retiring in Pattaya without insurance bypassing normal channels, best inquire with an agent who know all that is required to see what you are prepared to do. Also many other Thailand vlogs give good advice. just have good health for your age, as guys get into trouble quickly with the bar lifestyle.
Been a while since I've been too pattaya/jomtien. Sure is great there but it's Hua Hin for me. Chiang Mai, Hua, Pattaya and Jomtien are all similarly priced. I'm not sure how you got Hua Hin and phuket in the same cost of living range? There's more than enough beaches bars restaurants entertainment in Hua for me however it is spread out a bit in three main areas. I own a motorbike but baht busses and tuk tuks can get you around. Too bad that fast ferry Hua Hin to Pattaya is no longer. Keep up the great vids 👍
Think you would need to have some self control there mind if your retired there , we had a few nights in Bangsaray and thought that might be an option as so close to Patts 👍
Hi Wyn where abouts is a good long pool ,i used to love a pool swim most days when i was in Thailand in the late 90's working in the dive industry . I dont see vloggers talking about them and the hotel pools dont seem big . Cheers Boyo 😊
Yes there’s lots of golf courses in Pattaya and that’s the reason all the men tell their wives back home, why they are going to Thailand (to play golf) but leave their clubs at the airport ⛳️ 😉
IMO The number one issue is that no one should retire to a different country without first having visited for an extended time. It really doesn't work for some people and they will return home having spent a lot of their money. Being a 2-week millionaire on holiday isn't the same as spending a month+ in a place which is when you start to find the drawbacks. Then you need to take a serious look at your finances to work out if you can do it or not. Be honest with yourself. Can you actually enjoy life there on the money you have available or is it a case of pure survival and not living. Survival mode only, away from family can be extremely difficult. Finally, if you have any personal problems (especially mental issues) you can't run away from them. If your head needs sorting then do it at home where you have some form of support network. If you've done all those things then Thailand in general is a very good option.
andrewmack; Yep! good in theory but Pattaya is where all the above you mention should not are in fact the type of people who thrive in Pattaya. Including the host of this channel who needs the assistance of an agent to satisfy the financial requirements
@@victoriapenny5607 Not necessarily. Plenty of them head home completely broken. Some join the Pattaya Flying club, but a few do thrive long-term and some are shipped back in an urn very quickly. If there weren't exceptions then there wouldn't be 'the rule'.
