I'm so impressed with your kids relationship to their stuff--no begging to keep what they didn't even want, no decluttering with you to try to "save" things. We didn't have a healthy relationship with stuff growing up, so I was attached to everything and am still learning to separate my emotions from stuff I don't need. It's wonderful that your kids learned that so early
Just a suggestion Erica, if you stand the boxes upright, then your kids will be less likely to pull games off the shelves. Pardon the pun but this was a game changer for me lol
@@EricaLucasLoves I was going to make the same suggestion of standing the boxes upright. I bet you can fit all of the games on 1 shelf and have the other shelf empty to put other things away!

Reverse decluttering is a great approach - reminds me of "Merlinizing" goals (bc Merlin was said to live from the future backwards). Ranger went in, because he lives there 😄! He's awesome ❤❤❤! Great decisions on what to keep. Be careful with car games that they don't get used for short trips. When my nieces were learning to drive, they didn't recognize where they lived in relation to where things were. It made learning to drive more difficult 😅. They need to see and learn where stuff is within a 30 mile radius. A game of I-spy (or slug-bug) is great for this!
@@EricaLucasLoves if you do so, I would suggest labeling it as the "camper's UNO". So it doesn't get put in your shelves in the house in a clean out after the tour and you would start decluttering again.
My kids are close to your kids ages but they were slow to learn to care for stuff like board games. They're FINALLY mature enough to start playing board games, which was a favorite part of my childhood. My mom wouldn't play with us when I was a child, but I enjoy playing with my kids. My kids love "wildcraft" btw. I'm glad you offered it to other homeschoolers. My husband and I just found that we both love "pandemic" too. I also recently got "wingspan", but the directions are so complicated! I will probably end up donating it. I have a local board game store that has a shelf of games you can sit and play while you're there. It's nice to try games before we buy them! I organized my games this last week. They didn't have a good home, for years. I finally decluttered enough stuff to have some shelves available and I love its new home.
I started putting game pieces into zip lock bags years ago. We're also big puzzle people, and 1000piece puzzles do well in quart storage bags, placed in puzzle boxes. This also helps when games and puzzles are donated. It keeps pieces from getting lost, especially if boxes are accidentally dropped, spilled.

Hi Erica! I came over to share the love from Shannon, at Leaf Like On A Tree. I’m in the process of finishing up decluttering every single closet in my house, so this was a great video for me to watch!
I recognise that slow beginning and the moving things back and forth before the flow eventually kicks in and you can get through the task - but there's always that first challenge to understand what the task at hand is. Thank you for sharing! I loved little ones very blunt reply 'No' there's a lad who knows what he wants 😂
Hi Erica! Thank you for thinking out loud and stating 3 times, "We don't play Boggle". It clicked for me. It will help me with a second pass through our board games. The remaining games held best intentions, sentimental, gift guilt, and future what-ifs.
Awesome!!! Great reminder for us to declutter under our coffee table that keeps spilling out. Idk how many uno games we have.and oh Lord.. Jenga blocks everywhere!
The decluttering pile was a good size. Missing pieces means they were used. Kids do outgrow games as they get older and more advanced. I must say I Got a little dizzy with this one, going back and forth from the table to the shelves. 😅❤🎉
Wow! This is such a difficult area for me to declutter! Our family LOVES to play games and we like having lots of options. It is so hard to let games go. Your process is very helpful. Thank you for sharing!
Great video. Both of my suggestions were mentioned. 1) Put games in bags similar to legos 2) store the games vertical. We store ours vertical and it made it way easier to access and store them. Great job on letting go.
You did a FANTASTIC job!! Ahh the old game declutter. I myself need to do this. Do I still have a kid at home? Nope, he's been out of the house since he was 20.. he's now 32. Do I still have a lot of his games from his childhood? Umm yeah. I still have his vinatge Cooties game, his Sorry, Monopoly, Scrabble, Battleship, Jenga games and much more. I keep thinking that I will have someone to play against one day.. but hubby and I don't play and grandkids are not happening. My mind says get rid of them, my heart says nooo they are vintage. I even have the original Trivial Pursuit game with the 80's edition. Acccckkk!
Just watched you tuber explain Etsy and that adults are buying childhood memories, take pictures for your memory, sell and treat family to a meal etc .question would he throw it out etc
@@hazelmeldrum5860nope, they are staying here. I’m not drowning in clutter and they are not hurting anyone. Sometimes textile things are worth keeping. I wasn’t asking for help, just saying games were cool.
The best thing I did was use a dresser for our games. It obviously has drawers so I don't have to see any of it. I put almost all of our games into zipper baggies. I even use one drawer for our school activities.
Erica, thank you so much for how down-to-earth you are in sharing. It is so refreshing. I needed this! Our dining room is duo purpose as our homeschool room as well. When you shared your space, I was like, that looks just like our space! It's very relatable. This area is also one of the hardest areas for me to declutter, (It just seems to refill on its own accord). Thank you for the inspiration!
I kept trying to keep it "dining room" and less "school room." It's more school room than dining room during this season of life - and that works for us!
That was amazing how many games you are letting go. If you stood them up, like other’s suggested, you could probably get them all on 2 shelves. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️👏👍💪💐🐕🦺
Great inspiration! Why are two games (cases on the left side) living on the floor? I always find it helpful for my cleaning when I have mainly all floors cleared of "things" that can also live in a proper cupboard or on a shelf. Another totally unrelated question to decluttering, I am just curious: What are the reasons that so many US Americans seem to homeschool? Over here in Europe that isn't really a thing, but possible at least where I live (Switzerland). I know of only one family in our small town who does homeschooling.
My kids really grew academically through the height of the pandemic and skyrocketed past “kid” or “family games” to “European board games” which meant that our sizeable game collection exploded as we started playing so many more games (they still need variety) and they are such good Christmas and birthday presents: they are experience games. We exploded out of container & needed a new one with wood shelves. The process of transferring everything out to the table allowed the kids to see what we had and what they were willing to part with. We weren’t able to move a ton on as I am currently the only one who wants to move the game on…but we have several others that we could do. Games!

Those card holders look amazing. I’ve thought of buying some as I’m not able to hold 15 cards in my hand very easily…..especially when my arthritis is bothering me.
