I love both programs for the culture 💪🏽 JSU is a complete band this year - all sections are doing their jobs, which is awesome to hear !! SU knows within the program what they need to work on this year- but they are still 1B in the SWAC… great battle to both programs and students
Yep, but Kevan Johnson’s pen is better than both right now. He put on a master class in arrangements during this battle. They played primarily Kevan’s arrangements this battle. I think he had 3, Little had one, Travis had maybe two. They are a great trio. They have their mix for the next 5 years or more if they stick together.
After I finished dancing to Candy Rain (whew, my legs were tired), JSU had my attention big time. Good battle. Both bands had an issue here and there (SU more than JSU). I have to give this to JSU. Their songbook was better. I love them all, but that Candy Rain just took me away for a minute 😅. Fantastic job, JSU! OUTSTANDING. Oh, and Steven, your facial expressions are killing me, LOL. "Yes, I was laughing at the trumpets." LMFAO

They haven’t been right since Haymer was terminated or resigned. I’m not a fan of Southern but I will say that they used to give JSU a run for they money sometimes when Haymer was their director.
As a Spartan Legion alum and a band head I was entertained by both bands but around the 29:21 Mark JSU started to widen the gap and separate themselves from SU during this battle. Song selection played a huge part in my opinion of who came out on top. Both had miscues but Southern’s were more prominent. I still think both bands are awesome. BEHOLD✊🏾💚💛
