Two incredible actors. The main actor of this movie, Crowe, got an oscar, whereas Phoenix got a nomination for supporting actor. However, later in life, Phoenix did get the oscar for his primary role as the joker. Their acting really makes the movie what it is. It's a remarkable and memorable film.

Every... single... time... I watch this part of the movie it gives me chills.... every... single... time... no matter that it's about the 20th time seeing it. The fight before this and this scene is some of the best cinema in history.

Imagine how many loyal servants to emperors and governments have been betrayed and killed because they became a threat to that power which they lay down their lives to defend.
When people saw this originally, they were absolutely blown away ,captivated, and challenged. To be just better. A little closer to the ideal and maybe even something else. Just a glorious movie and a wonderful experience.
Commander of the armies of the north, General of the felix legions! Imagine being this guy at that time when no guns were invented yet ! Bro is like a demigod LOL !
Quintas was always the worst one in the this movie for me. He knew the king had been slaughtered and chose to support a murderous entitled brat instead of Maximus, knowing he was at no risk doing so since the legions of men and king's guard were behind him regardless.
@@stevied7531 Yea, after letting the praetorian guards rape and murder Maximus' family, slaughter Proximo and the gladiators, and however many countless others died in the arena to satisfy Comodus' whims. And after all that Quintas was like, "My bad." Hardly a redemption imo.
There was a deleted scene where Commodus has two soldiers executed after he accuses Quintas of helping Maximus. If the scene had stayed in it would have provided a better character development perspective on Quintas.
