    Sorry. Gotta say it. I have watched your journey from day one along with WESail, Gone with the Wynns, Sailing One Life, Florence, Delos, Cat Great Circle, Biotrek and so many more. How many issues have you had. Plumbing, throttles, steering, electronics. It’s great to say that Seawind is addressing these but never should have happened. I can’t watch other Seawind RUclipsrs as they seem to always have issues too. I love what you do. You have mastered the art of narration over sound and video K. Fabio is always cheerful. Your production is first rate. I will always watch and take the best away but I don’t know how anyone would now consider a Seawind.

    I'm a couch sailor but I would imagine reefing must be boat and sail plan specific. Condition of the sails, AWA angle, etc...There is probably some formula that takes into account sail area, SPAR size, displacement, etc.. I think going with your gut is best in regards to reefing.

    That's rough, but you guys are smart and are a great couple, I'm sure you'll get it sorted.
    I wonder if this is related to your electrolysis issue? I'm aware that carbon and aluminium are at the opposite end of the galvanic scale and then once you throw in a bit of electrolyte, corrosion may occur.

    There are no hard and fast thresholds for reefing, every boat is different. On a monohull, it is much more obvious when you need to reef due to heeling. On a multihull however, it's dictated by the amount of load on the rig at specific wind speeds. The designer/manufacturer should have calculated these numbers for your specific boat/sail combination. You should reef by these numbers and for a cruising catamaran, I would always be on the conservative side as you never know when you will have a big gust or a big increase in wind speed. Especially at night, reef down well before any expected wind increase as that's when you least want to be caught by surprise.

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  7 месяцев назад

      We completely agree and always reef according to the manufacturer specs and are very conservative at night. Thanks for watching!

    That the benefit of having a catamaran as opposed to a trimaran or mono hull. Two hulls means two rudders = redundancy! I know you already done this but I'd have both motors running during you entrance to the reef and steer with them mainly and the remaining rudder of course. Clever thinking Fabio with the anchor alarm, AS LONG AS THE CURRENT STAYED THE SAME ! What do you think pulled the rudder of the boat? Whale or container, surely you'd have heard that? Any makeshift (temporary) rig that puts the rudder back up against the hull which is not absolutely fix and solid will only cause rubbing and wear - which won't be good for the hull. So I'd advise against it. Sail with on in OPTIMAL weather only and have plenty of fuel on board in case you have to end up motoring all the way due to weather. Can you put sailing off till the rudder is completely fixed?

      As you can imagine our episode are a few weeks behind, in the next episode you will see how we put it back together.
      You probably know that the steering system has been redesigned and we are actually undergoing a refit as I a writing to you.
      It was just a weak link that broke and the simple result of waves hitting the rudder hard over.
      The new system, you will see, is a beauty!!

    It’s amazing how that brand new boat is falling apart. I can’t believe the lack of engineering that Seawind put into that boat, terrible design. I wonder how much attention a normal user/owner that wasn’t posting RUclips videos would get from Seawind under the same circumstances. Also, wear your safety shit when working on the transom on the open ocean and especially in the dark so you don’t end up being a statistic.
