I love your passion for a race car and how you tied the frame connections into the rocker bodies to not only complete the frame overall strength, but give the cage as much of a structural mounting point as possible . Remember safety and triangulation will serve you very well. Much success, HRC
I admire your honesty in including the fumbles and mistakes in the video. Instructional videos that show flawless processes are all very well, but they can be intimidating. The real difference between beginners and experienced people in any field is the knowledge of how to correct the problems that crop up.
Watching you build a roll cage out in the drive way with a very limited amount of tools has inspired me to build one for my car ....... Thanks for posting these videos they have given me a lot of ideas and have taught me a few things...... Very cool ..... Hey if you clamped that pipe bender to the table it may not of been such a struggle and cooperated a little better for you..... Just a thought as I was watching
Great job! I like your style, I built my first cage too back in 86 on a 2 Monti Carlo"HEAVY car but worked good in the street stock class. I like that you tied the uni-body together!
After watching even some of Your vids showing Your skills, I am positively speechless. I don't know any woman that has even small amount of Your skill. You're outsdanding! :) Respect from Poland :)
I think its great that you and your son are doing a project together. I take it dad isn't anywhere around. Keep up the great work. Look forward to the finished product.
I stumbled on to your video's, really cool you doing this build on your own, I was really impressed to see you using "back hand" welding, it is a very effective and underused technique for producing sound welds regardless of weld process. Cheers!
word to the wise anchor the pipe bender to a solid surface , I built a stand for mine out of 2x4 steel tubing with a large foot base ( semi truck rim ) and it makes life a heck of a lot easier as the press doesn't move around and its easier to work when its at a nice height too , and you can work easier around it . and never weld the main hoop in first , as its is easier to weld a halo all the way round then rotate the main hoop up to position and weld it in , you want that junction solid
@SuperFullset Jeri, you are correct and doing proper welding. I am a Certified Weld Inspector, 25 years on boilers, pipelines, pressure vessels. The only way to weld on race car fabrication is to use your MIG (GMAW) or a TIG (GTAW). Arc (SMAW) is often used for much thicker materials. Your welds look great. Burning a hole and slugging it with rod and then burning it into a huge glob is totally WRONG!!!! Serious racing fabricators do not use the stick welding process at all.
WOW!! i'm so impressed. Well done you! Over here in the UK lady drivers can only just drive on the roads let alone bend roll cage bars and fit a roll cage. I like...
i would wear wear mufs using when the grinder.....ive used a grinder and always muffs and my hearing is still good after 40 years of occasional grinding... great job as those bends are a nightmare to measure.
Very cool...I hope you lady's are wearing a welding caps while welding and grinding... keep up the good work... I suggest making a fab table or at the least a stand for your tubing bender, save your backs...
hey whats going down??i purchased a 10 point cage kit already cut and perfectly bent for any vehicle just tell them a few days ahead before pickup in Clearwater, Florida for like $199 ,it even came with 2 extra bars ,i turned into a 12 point, for my 85 Z/28 only $199 already bent.saves alot of work.came with blueprint and marked bars.
@morbitron6 i agree. for sure tig on chromoly, mig is good too if the steel is a type that isn't going to air harden or heat control isn't a big deal. don't think i have ever seen a cage stick welded.
this may be a dumb question, but on the roll bar, why does the passenger side get one 90 deg bend whereas the diver side gets two 45 deg (i'm assuming) bends?
I love that welder you have, i have the same one at my shop. 220v digital display right? welds like a dream. I also have to say your an inspiration for not only us guys but also a male dominated scene (excluding the poster model girls that show off the cars).
Where did you get your car from? And how much? Also where do you race? I am trying to get into this, but I will have to wait 2 or 3 years first. No time now and my parents would not give me money to start.
You're the coolest female I ever saw. I'm impress I'm a man and I don’t know crap about cars, only small 1:24 & 25. I cant do a roll cage for my model and ur here building a real one.. Bowling down
Nice Camaro... you have a long way before you'll have a purestock though. I just built a Dodge Neon and put a cage in it. My brother has a Monte Carlo racecar with a 415c.i. and my dad has a UMP Modified with a 434c.i. motor. What motor are you running?
hello everyone im a 13 year old from northern ireland and i just bought a stock car that one the irish championships 3 years in a row. it needs a bit of work but i should start racing next month any useful tips for my first race?
Yeah - Here's a Tip from an Old Firebird Fanatic --- NEVER QUIT !! To heck with the nay-sayer -and always be open to learn from those that have WON!! ( too heck with the internet TROLLS that do Nothing == DO and WIN !! )
I like your work Jeri and your welding is awesome. What size wire and what gas do you prefer to use in your MIG welder for this job? Keep up the good work!
question if I put money into a new engine, transmission, suspension etc to make it more hp or a track car etc. later when I sell the car how much am I going to get back from the parts I put in? 1/3 or what?
There was nothing wrong with the bender. They work so much better when they are mounted and stationary. I guess you figured that out. We built a bender that was very similar to yours except it has a 12 ton jack and is a little beefier. we have built over 100 roll cages, but we learned by doing exactly what you are doing.
Right... yet you take time to poo-poo the work of others. You are an ass clown troll that dreams of playing a high end race car designer on tv... Because on a Friday at 1pm.... you have time... being a busy builder and all.... to be trolling the web.
GotScout You can build some really nice cages with benders like this. One of the problems is you can't make really tight bends. That can be overcome with good planning. I'll check tomorrow but I think we have a 2" die. At one time we had a 10 thousand dollar hydraulic tubing bender and it was much faster and easier to build a cage. We sold it several years ago and then decided to build a few more cars. We couldn't justify buying another multi thousand dollar bender, so we bought one exactly like in this video. We mounted it to a solid platform and it was much easier to use mounted. We decided to build one that was beefier and up the jack to 12,000 pound and it is really nice. We make some really safe, nice looking cages with it.
@insAneTunA, They showed a bender on MythBusters once (bullet coming around and hitting the shooter myth), but this one appears to use a different method to bend. Awesome video series Jeri, I was looking forward to more updates. I thought the offset was a bending mistake, but it looks quite nice, well done.
i wish i could move that fast, how many red bulls were you on? awesome video, good job on the build. it's awesome to see a couple of females gettin with it
I had my 72 mini tubbed nova with a 10 pt cage insured and guess they didnt see the cage then got a 71 nova with a cage and they said they couldnt insure it because the car was altered lol I would want to be in them cars in a wreck and be safe.Something to keep in mind. Was State Farm Ins.
i can'n belive that this kind of girls exist animore......you are awsome....i have a vw scirocco and i was looking for a video how to make an roll bar...but I was not expecting to girls to show me how to do it.....good for you...and is that your car?...
Wrong! You're supposed to take your car to "It's All About Me,Mister Bigshot, Racing,LLC",listen to their salesman's quality spiel for 4 hours, tour their fully equipped,multi-million dollar facility, look at their awesome show quality paint jobs and their trophy bride's boob-job/lipo and pay them $200 an hour to build a 1/4 mile dirt car that you will probably junk after 2 seasons. That's how you build a race car...( that will only get $500 for first place).
+thegrudgesensation You are going to get that everywhere. There is always going to be guys over-spending for the division they're racing just to make sure they win. In the 80s, around my area, two or three guys did that. The rest of us refused to play that game. We decided to let them go and look like idiots. They won races but lost money. Third place may have finished a lap or two down, but he made a few bucks. The fans could see what was happening. They booed the over-spenders and shamed them out of ra ing or into a division that matched their investment. Moving up a class proved to everyone that they weren't as good as they thought they were. They only had better cars.
Absolutely, especially with the power and speed some cars have today, roll cage should be standard. BTW I also think guys should not wear tight pants like that guy in this video
Would have been 10 times easier to figure out the front tie in, if you would have built a pillers first and the a pillers tie into the halo off of the main hoop. So, there is alot more to it than just tie the front into the main hoop. looks like you have a good idea how it should be done, you need to really research how to build it, cause i think you could do a nice job just gotta know what the steps are.
I first watched this video 10 years ago - and I'm glad that it was just recommended to me again
I love your passion for a race car and how you tied the frame connections into the rocker bodies to not only complete the frame overall strength, but give the cage as much of a structural mounting point as possible . Remember safety and triangulation will serve you very well. Much success, HRC

Good work. Respect for getting the job done with the tools on hand.
Great job! I like your style, I built my first cage too back in 86 on a 2 Monti Carlo"HEAVY car but worked good in the street stock class. I like that you tied the uni-body together!
Those welds were beautiful good job!
After watching even some of Your vids showing Your skills, I am positively speechless. I don't know any woman that has even small amount of Your skill. You're outsdanding! :) Respect from Poland :)
I just fell in love with these two. This video was informative and I appreciate immensely, women who work with their hands. 8)
Your welds are very nice. Making a mig weld look as good as tig, very nice. Just hope my welding skills get that good some day. Just now leaning.
Great video series, very nice welding, you have obviously done this a lot! Hope to see more videos of the car build.
I think its great that you and your son are doing a project together. I take it dad isn't anywhere around. Keep up the great work. Look forward to the finished product.

Agreed. They don't add much weight, but make the cars very safe.

Great project, I like the pipe bending device, I had never seen one of those before.
That project increases my interest in learning to weld with every video...
And it's an awesome magic trick at 0:51, moving a whole car to the side ;)
WOW!! i'm so impressed. Well done you! Over here in the UK lady drivers can only just drive on the roads let alone bend roll cage bars and fit a roll cage. I like...
This is like the coolest video ever for a guy like me.
More props to you making your own roll bar I'm lazy trying to install a premade one lol
i think your work is quite practical and logical
@jeriellsworth actually we used one in our 1979 camaro, rolled it, and it held up fine.
yeah i really enjoyed watching you build your car..your a very good fabricator..
i would wear wear mufs using when the grinder.....ive used a grinder and always muffs and my hearing is still good after 40 years of occasional grinding... great job as those bends are a nightmare to measure.
Geez! I love this girl! Jeri you are sooo awesome!
Very cool...I hope you lady's are wearing a welding caps while welding and grinding... keep up the good work... I suggest making a fab table or at the least a stand for your tubing bender, save your backs...
One of the mOre InTeReStiNg "build" videos I've come across... Color me IMPRESSED :O) Cheers!
Fantastic Video Jeri!!! Thanks for posting! Karl
Where have you been all my life... (I'm sure you've heard that about 118K times). Seriously though, that's nice work and the girl can weld too!
nice work. in the rain too. good job.
cool video... looking forward to the next phase
You are perfect..i love YOU!..i wish i was 30 years old...would go to states because of you
+Carlos Mergulhão
your are a pretty good fabricator..love the videos
They call you a self taught engineer. I say you’re a real engineer. 👍🏾👍🏾
YOU ARE AWESOMWE i know I'm chiming in late but Mad Respect to YOU Teach me i wanna be your student ~!!!!!!!!
Nice looking welds
in my opinion they should build roll cages into all cars
hey whats going down??i purchased a 10 point cage kit already cut and perfectly bent for any vehicle just tell them a few days ahead before pickup in Clearwater, Florida for like $199 ,it even came with 2 extra bars ,i turned into a 12 point, for my 85 Z/28 only $199 already bent.saves alot of work.came with blueprint and marked bars.

Thanks. This type of car is more of a process of fitting and trying things. It would be very difficult to have everything planned ahead of time.
You work so fast! wow
@jeriellsworth Where did you get your welder from?
Beautiful weld. I want one
A WOMAN MAKING THIS KIND OF THINGS!!! AT LAST!!!
I'm so subscribing to this channel now!
this may be a dumb question, but on the roll bar, why does the passenger side get one 90 deg bend whereas the diver side gets two 45 deg (i'm assuming) bends?
i have a kit that u weld in from speedway!!its awsome !!! gd luck out there!!!!!!
@ninjalov3ley It's a Millermatic. I purchased it at a welding store. It was about $1200.
What schedule of piping did you use
I love that welder you have, i have the same one at my shop. 220v digital display right? welds like a dream. I also have to say your an inspiration for not only us guys but also a male dominated scene (excluding the poster model girls that show off the cars).
what brand is the tube bender what did you buy it for on ebay thz
Where did you get your car from? And how much? Also where do you race? I am trying to get into this, but I will have to wait 2 or 3 years first. No time now and my parents would not give me money to start.
of what kind of material is the pipe made?
Which circuit are you working on this for?
nice clean welds :P
Very cute and talented to nice build 😍
its nice to see women interested in cars
great job!!!!! .. from Italy
Hi Jeri, what sort of roll form pipe bender are you using - do you have a brand /model for this as i would like to buy the same.
You can use any arm saw and just buy metal cutting blades at lowes or home depot
You're the coolest female I ever saw. I'm impress I'm a man and I don’t know crap about cars, only small 1:24 & 25. I cant do a roll cage for my model and ur here building a real one.. Bowling down
Looking good! The car..
Nice Camaro... you have a long way before you'll have a purestock though. I just built a Dodge Neon and put a cage in it. My brother has a Monte Carlo racecar with a 415c.i. and my dad has a UMP Modified with a 434c.i. motor. What motor are you running?

+Okaythen001 That all depends what condition the parts are in when you sell the car.
+Okaythen001
If you have a $7000 car.... add $12,000 in upgrades, $4000 in stereo, and toss $50 cash in glovebox...
You might get $7050.
Nick Doyle is a fucking legend
Cool Instructional Video...

+Magic MD TV It's like a hammer.... some use them better than others... Hand a great builder a rock and he'll still build a better house than you.
+a1scooter1 I wanted to pull the trigger on one... but they refuse to make a 2" die...

Another speechless man here....
@musiclovr2 This needs more bracing than one of those bolt on kits.
@SuperFullset Uhhhh??? I don't think burning a hole in the base metal and then filling it with welding rod is a good idea.
@cbr900rr919 Those cages are terrible and won't allow us to tie the car together nicely.
@onlywhenprovoked The next video almost uploading now.
Pretty nice work but you typically want the roll bar to be symmetrical so there are less weak points. Like I said tho, it's still nice work.
Que?
Love it
good job, I will do so in my fiat
Why wouldn't you make this a street car it looks so clean
nom nom nom Camaro.

You cannot unbend a pipe with a pipe bender what are you thinking. Get it right the first time or waist your money
+stoned ryguy Sure you can... first take a bell, ring it. Then unring it... wrap around pipe... and you are done. Easy.
