      I like to find something that can still work with my Google crap even when the internet is down. I can always put a server in on my home lab, so the google will go though that and it will pretty much copy what the internet will do just at the server. IE when I ask google stuff it will first look at the server and if the info is not there then use the internet. But be able to control every thing in the home with out the need of the internet, and only need the internet for crap like weather and other crap or control outside of my network. Not only that I want more security. The google crap is very very unsecured any one that comes in my home can use it. I only want to give people that live in the home access to the Google stuff, all others will be denied access. IE with a server in my network I can put on a complete different network for security. Like my security cameras they are on a different network, and I have Wifi set up were if some one is over and want to use the internet. I have Wife just for them they have not access to any other network other than the internet. Good needs to put out a server software that can be install on either a computer or my case a server that can handle tasks with out the internet.

      Really? I'm annoyed with my home assistant because as soon as I I decided to test it by unplugging turning off my internet service provider it completely stopped working and all my devices connected to it stopped working as well. How'd you get past this issue?

  • @hometechUK
    @hometechUK 5 лет назад +1

    Great video thanks. It's terrible that Google home & Alexa cannot do anything. You should still be able to ask "what's the time", "what's the date", "what's the weather" even without the weather. They should store some of the basic questions.

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  5 лет назад

      I agree you should be able to do some things and at least ask basic questions. That means a smaller version of the assistant has to be available locally on the device.

    I was thinking that having a router (or hub?) that could do optional blue-tooth paring to allow a smart phone to provide an internet connection for security and home-automation purposes only would be great, even without having the phone be a full fledged 'internet' feed. ... Just my blue-sky thoughts!

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  5 лет назад

      Definitely a secondary connection is a good idea. Some routers have dual connections, but most of them are going to be based on the same backbone in the end. If the internet truly goes down...none of this stuff will work.

    Hi! What a GREAT channel you have! I am currently renovating an RV into a wheelchair-accessible RV so that people with disabilities can have access to the great outdoors. I really want it to be a smart-home RV so that people without the ability to use their hands can easily use the electronics in the RV. The problem is that it needs to work without an internet connection. Can you recommend what the best system would be to use?

    • @AutomateYourLife

      That's a really great project and we'll be happy to see when it's done!
      The problem for you will be that if they can't use their hands, then they can't trigger much without a voice assistant. What method would you want to control with and then what are you hoping to control in terms of electronics in the RV?

    Great info and video/channel, I've subbed - maybe I missed it somewhere in your explanation, but people should know their good ol' standard light switches (assuming they still have them intact) will still work to turn most, if not all smart lights on/off, of course, even though wifi and/or internet is not working. This may be obvious to some of us, but maybe not all. Thanks again for the great info!

    The only real surprise there IMHO is that Smart Thing's user interfaces stop working. They should do better. Vera, Open Hab, etc would be fine.
    Your Google Chromecast devices can play music from your local network if you're using something like Roon or Bubble UPnP Server W/ a DLNA server and Bubble UPnP Player (or another SMARTHOME speaker compatible app such as Linn's Kazoo). I'm pretty sure that the Google Chromecast Audio is fine in this configuration without a connection. Not so sure about the Home devices.
    Your wifi switches can be updated to connect to a local MQTT server with the right firmware update. From there you should be able to use your Hub to control those devices via MQTT (though not Samsung Smart Thing's apparently).
    Mick.

    I am running in to an issue. I have cox gigablast internet service and router. There seems to be a 32 device ceiling with their wifi router and they have said they cannot increase it. How are you integrating so many devices. I was thinking to use a Samsung smartthings hub that I have to Connect all the devices that I can on it, so that it will access the router as one device. I haven't tried yet due to lack of time. Most of my devices are wifi connected with only a hub for my sengled bulbs that shows as one device on my router. But I've got 25 gosund light switches on other lights that do not have a hub and are individually connected to the router. Is it possible to connect these wifi switches to the smart things hub and in turn connect the SmartThings hub to the router so that only one device will connect to the router instead of 26?

    What do you mean by turning of the internet and keeping wifi on??? I have my bell router which is also a modem. If I turn off wifi is also turned off.
