Sounds like a good shoe but I have a ton of shoes now and will probably wait for a discount. A bit concerned about the waffle pattern outsole, I find those to be a lot louder, but good grip.
Something I noticed just from interactions with other runners, and owning a pair myself. The Nike Winflo 8 essentially became the Peg 39. Hear me out. The Winflo 8 has Flywire, a lighter, thinner upper than the Peg 38, dual Air Zoom units (heel and forefoot), and a higher stack height than the Peg 38. The Winflo 8 uses Cushlon rather than React, and has a wider, stable platform compared to the Pegasus 38. It almost feels like Nike saw the sales and reaction to the Winflo 8 and said "Lets take some of this and put it on the Pegasus." I agree that Nike more than likely looked back to the Pegasus that everyone seemed to love (Pegasus 35/36) and went back to that with the upper, but the midsole's dual Air Zoom units and higher stack seem to be taken right off the Winflo 8 (Yes, I know the Peg 34 had the dual units as well, but the Winflo is a pretty close in-house competitor to the Pegasus). Just sharing my thoughts.
I have plenty of squishy shoes, but crave a slightly firmer shoe mixed in with my training. I have the 38 and infinity 2, amongst many others. The infinity 2 is really working well for me in this category. Love the content, thank you!
Was waiting for this review. Great post!!! Shocking finish quality by Nike!!! My Hoka Carbon X 2 - have a lovely finish and I am happy to use them every day. Only 104 earth credits in the UK
Great news that the 39th version looks similar to the Pegasus 36 ! That shoe was awesome because it was nimble, extremely breathable and had enough cushioning for my taste. And that is all about what the Pegasus needs to be. If the runner needs more cushioning or luxurious then just go with the Vomero !
Pegasus all the way. Theres a reason pegasus outsell Vomero 20 to 1. Apart from the extra 30 bucks, the Vomero could quite possibly be the ugliest shoes Nike have ever released.
The Peg 35-36 reference is fitting, as I was really wowed by that extremely modern looking shoe which had endless amazing colorways. Corona years were dreary with tons of black and grey colorways. Hated the 37-38.
Good to see you looking well recovered from covid Edd. This peg looks interesting - loved my 35s and haven’t bought any since then so might give these a go. Enjoying the Reebok Floatride 4s so much though that it’s tempting to get another pair of those for half the price!
Great review Ed. Seems like the Pegasus line improves a little every year. I'm still waiting for the Pegasus to get Zoom X foam in it one day, that will be a treasure.
Good development, had to return quite a few squashy shoes recently. Like the ankle roll fest that is the 1080v11. Now if they bring back the Epic react, mine already have 800km on them.
I’ll try mine tonight for a tempo club session as it’s on grass. I quite liked the 38’s for easy runs so hopefully the 39 will help on the grass. It’s still a bit damp and slippery this early in the year.
Nice! I ordered the premium blue colour way yesterday as my Peg turbo 2's have starting to split at the back & i have done 500 miles in them & can't keep running in vaporfly's all the time as much as i love them. What i like about the 39's is they actually look good & you could wear these down the pub too😂
Great review and nice to see they've made some improvements and shed some of the brick like weight. Not sure I'll be picking up some Peg 39's though - I'm not convinced by the React foam. Currently considering the Puma Velocity Nitro 2. Is that something you'll be doing a review of?!?
Loved the 36 and used them for everything except races, got 38 and reasonable so great to hear they are similar to the 36 so will be getting a pair. Thanks Edd 👍🏻
Hey Ed, great videos. I'm in need of a great pair of shoes and you've really helped me out. I Also wanted to know what brand of flat cap you have been wearing in the previous videos. The light grey one. Thanks.
Hey Edd, I like the sound of the Peg39 being more like the Peg36. The Peg36 was my favourite daily shoe and I am on my 3rd pair. The Peg37 was ok but found the toe box and upper tight. May convince me to buy a pair once discounted but I am loving the floatride E3 as my daily runners. Peg39 v FE3 which one comes out on top?
Thanks for the review Ed. Since Peg 36 this is probably a better one. 37, 38 didnt work for me at all. 39s are ok, but far from the feel I had on 36. I am an older runner, putting in around 60miles per week and would like to ask for your help - which of the shoes available today would resemble the most a Peg 35/36. Thank you all.
Great review Ed. Just found your channel as want to get back into running. Very active in other areas so pretty fit. Always used Asics Kayano but looking to broaden my experience. At 205lbs and fit I'm wanting a good cushioned shoe. Is this a good starting point or is anything you'd buy over this? Many thanks.
Highly entertaining Mr. Edd. I have a pair of Peg 37 and I still really like them. So I'm tempted to purchase these 39 beauties 😍. Love the videos keep them coming you cool kat. 😎
@@EDDBUD just bought them. Definitely a step in the right direction! Personally I would like them to go even further with the weight reduction by removing some of the padding around the heel and tongue, but given that it's a daily running shoe for the mass market, I can understand why they wouldn't do this. Thanks for the review Eddbud! Didn’t even know this was out out yet. Would you pick this over the Puma Velocity Nitro 2? And you mention the Adidas, will look into that one. Looking for a new daily trainer so I thought I’d ask. Oh, what about the Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 - do you think that can be used as a daily trainer? 🙏
@@EDDBUD thanks! I just tried the Speed 2 on at a local store today and didn’t feel right for me…at least at this time. Have been struggling with some plantar fasciitis and the shoe that felt the best…ASICS Gel Nimbus 24!! I think that will be the shoe to get back after a little break and also train at low HR for now. May pick up the Speed 2 when it goes on sale. Thanks again, brother! 🙏👍💪
I like react it has a nice firmness but some give and response but not too much that you feel your sinking in or the shoes doing all the work. Not every shoe needs to be squashy. I don’t get why all reviewers want shoes to be super light, super squishy and super responsive. If every shoe were like that then we would only need one shoe brand.
Completely agree! I don’t like shoes with super foam for my daily runs. Although I don’t love most Nike uppers, I love react because it’s incredibly durable, soft enough for longer runs, and responsive enough for a higher turnover if I decide to pick it up now and again. Super foams are excellent for racing but I prefer more traditional running shoes for my daily efforts.
Thanks Edd for this great review, really have been looking forward to this one! :) Do you consider picking up the Infinity Run 3? The Infinty line by Nike seems to be a favorite for many! Cheers from Berlin, keep it up! 🐅🔥
I was really torn with my Peg 38 and ultimately sold them on eBay. I loved the fit and the upper and found it really comfortable. But just found it really uninspiring to run in! The only other peg I have had is the 36 trail which I loved and absolutely ran to the ground. Not sure if they were just a better peg for me or if I have just got more picky since then!
Hey Edd (or anyone else). Since you are touching base on the pegasus I was wondering if you had any imput on the two types of rubber that were offered on the 37s? @@EDDBUD its funny you say that because my 37s had 2 different colors of rubber and my 38s i found are special artist editons with a single rubber color...i am under the impression the 37s were a tad softer....but maybe it is all in my head too 😂
I find the adios 6 far too harsh on my legs and feet. It is a quick shoe but anything over 10k bloody breaks me. Might pick the Pegasus 39 up after this review. Cheers 👍
@@EDDBUD if they did then it would be a cracking shoe. I want to love it, as I do think it is rapid over shorter distances, it's just the heel is so harsh
Tbh, I'm not interested in the Peg until they move away from react. I'm mostly here for the musical interlude and I'm glad I did. Richard Hawley has found himself a new fan! Do you happen to remember the drum and bass albums you've recommended in the past?
Edd any idea what tech the Winflo 9 is using? From the pics I saw on one side it has the letters AIR and the other cushlon. Could they have air strobel?
@@EDDBUD yeah but cushlon with air strobel directly under the insole. Which might be better than the Pegs setup. I have a basketball shoe with that setup and its great
A keenly awaited review ( think you’re 1st Ed!?) but even with all the positive things Nike have done here with the 39 I still can’t get past that dull outdated react foam. Went for the saucony ride 15 with the brilliant pwrun foam and although £20 more is worth it in my opinion. Great work though Ed as always 👏👍
Thanks for a fab video as always. Are you saying the 39 is better than the 36, or that Nike have basically wasted everybody’s time and money for two years and then produced something worse than the 36?
You could say the same about the mediocre other models from years gone by. The 91 version was nothing on what we have now. But it is all forward motion.
@@EDDBUD foolish take! Obviously there's something in the middle of unimaginative design and sugar coated overlays/ magic dust. You may not care for more than a pedestrian design on your daily shoes but I prefer something that I'm excited to put on. The looks are blah ,I could care less about what you prefer from a daily shoe
Mine have just arrived in a UK 13. I only had the Shield version of the 38 (obviously heavier 398-399g) and the Nike by You "Narrow" version of the 37 but the weight in my UK 13 Peg 39 is 352-358g (left "lighter") is only a fraction less than my 37s which are 359-362g. Oddly these standard 39 seem able give a better lockdown just putting them on than my 37s in the supposed narrow. The insoles are identical. Will try a run later. I got the grey/blue ones or rather "Pure Platinum/Mineral Slate/Bright Spruce/Total Orange". Not helpful to put into Strava :)
Very interesting. My uk13 peg 37 were 368g, and 38's weighed in at 364g. Have seriously considered cutting off my big toe and dropping down to a uk11, so annoyed I've been by the weight of some of these daily shoes. However, I've been rescued by lightness of the puma liberate nitro and saucony endorphin speed. Just don't mention the 418g nike react miler 2....
@@matthanna1980 So the 39 seem only about 10g less for us in a UK 13 than the 38 which is odd then why Edd's UK 11 pair is so much lighter. This sort of weight I have to come expect in a daily trainer but yeah the Endorphin Speed & even more so the Liberate Nitro are somewhat lighter although not quite the same use case - especially the Liberate which feel more like a racing flat. The Speeds have mainly been my goto shoe for the last year but some days, especially when not wanting to go too fast, a daily trainer like the Pegs can be good. Been enjoying the Vomero 16 of late which certainly have a bit of a Peg feel to them but better than the Peg 37s which were just too shallow for me. Will see how the 39s feel later.
@@TimGrose Yes, completely agree regarding the use cases. I sometimes use my Rebel V2's for the slower daily stuff, as they seem happier at ~5min/km pace than the endorphins. Liberate nitros definitely reserved for the shorter runs, but I just love the lack of weight when picking up the pace with these on my feet.
Hey Edd I was just thinking about you when listening to the Black Country, New Road album and I believe you’d quite enjoy that record. It is quite nice to listen to if I say so myself. It’s titled “Ants From Up There”.
I just got mine today, went from the 37 to 39, the foam is a lot firmer than the 37, but it's good gives you more energy return, but on a slow pacing you feel the pod in both the front and back which is a little weird but not too bad.
Great review man, Good job! Since you gave it 2.7 rating I want to know which is the best daily shoe for you? Actually I'm struggling to find a perfect pair for my dad, I want something highly comfortable, which he can wear all day long for walking and breathable. It's very hot here, it's always 30-45°C in summer, please suggest me something if you can. 😃
I would suggest something thinner and lighter. Maybe look at the Hyperion tempo from brooks or energy 4. Few running shoes are great for hotter places.
Oh come on… I’ll have enough to construct a Throne of Shame from all of the trainer boxes I’ve been ‘persuaded’ by individuals on RUclips. At least I’ll have lots of cardboard to use when the wife takes the house :)
No, not yet. I’ve not been compelled to buy the CloudMonsters (I have the PrimeX for max cushion)… but I’m sure if Mr Bud says the right things I will get something like that.
Pegasus was a great all around shoes... couple years ago. I have 36 and 38 (tried 37 but don't really like it), they're great shoes for easy runs in my rotation. But with the new tech and new mid-sole foams available these years, Pegasus is still remaking same shoes over with same settings few generations ago. Look at how Adidas is ditching their boost mid-sole for Lightstrike and Lightstrike Pro on Adios/Boston and Pro series and making better shoes in terms of performance. At this price point I'll probably get previous generations from outlet stores, or get a pair of Adios 6, or discounted Boston 10.
I just hope they get more colorways in the following days/weeks/months. It is so pale 3 versions of white with 1 black model. The Trail series are definitely more attractive. My personal humble opinion, of course (as mentioned, i am a person who appreciates the good looks lol ) :)))
I will definitely pick up a pair if I can find them in wide sizes. For one of the mainline shoes from such a big company I’m always surprised at how hard it is to find wide sizes in the Pegasus.
I have been a bit disappointed about the Peg 37. I had heel slippage and laces pressure problems with them. The shoes even gave me a bump on top of my left foot. It opened up after a while though. If these problems are fixed and with the weight lost, it might be a good option, but I would still prefer the Saucony Ride. I ended up using my Peg 37 at the beginning and at the end of winter, when roads are not snowy enough to justify a trail shoe.
why do retailers leave glue on the shoes it just seems unpleasant and I ordered a pair online it also had glue here and there I returned it right away I thought it was defective .
I'd love to pick some Nike shoes at some point (I have some apparel) ... but I keep hearing/reading so many stories about their bad quality control and air pods bursting during races.
The Winflo 8 has the Fly Wires, front and back Air Bags. The upper looks similar. The Winflo 8 uses the Cushlon instead of React foam. Winflo 8 is under $100.00 USD.
Never been a fan of the Peg, other than the fab Turbo editions. The Saucony Ride 15 is out soon, that looks like a great daily option, similar price point also 👍🏻
The 36 is probably one of the nike shoes that haven't prematurely self destruct on me though ive killed the mid and is probably my oldest runner that i still use . Though its been reliable ill probably wait for the Nova blast 3 or magic speed 2. ............my wife is going to kill me soon.

I was the other way. Hated the 37, enjoyed the 38. Though I had a custom 37 so that might have changed things.
Cheers 👍
The Adios softens up a lot after a while. Great shoe but I think they will opt for a more forgiving foam out the box next time.
@@EDDBUD if they did then it would be a cracking shoe. I want to love it, as I do think it is rapid over shorter distances, it's just the heel is so harsh
How do they fit in the toebox area? Same or wider or more narrow than the 38? cheers
Feels a bit wider to me than the 38
Tbh, I'm not interested in the Peg until they move away from react. I'm mostly here for the musical interlude and I'm glad I did. Richard Hawley has found himself a new fan!
Do you happen to remember the drum and bass albums you've recommended in the past?
The 40 is almost the same shoe by the looks.
Hope you are on the mend, sir.
Edd any idea what tech the Winflo 9 is using? From the pics I saw on one side it has the letters AIR and the other cushlon.
Could they have air strobel?
I think it’s cushlon once again.
@@EDDBUD yeah but cushlon with air strobel directly under the insole. Which might be better than the Pegs setup. I have a basketball shoe with that setup and its great
When you started with "Upper First", thought you were going to review the Beret
the peg 36 is my favourite of them all!! light and speedy!!!
It’s closer to that shoe than anything.
Отличный обзор, спасибо за мнение об этой модели. Она стала легче, я очень рад. Эд, жду обзор кроссовок для трейла. 👍😊
10.9 out of 3! Wow, that is one hell of a score Edd! 😉
Whoops I’m sure people get my drift
@@EDDBUD Just teasing Edd - brilliant review as always :)
It's good to see that Nike has re-discovered the plot with the new Peg 39, too!
@@DeckardWill Yes much improved over the recent ones.
Not sure the foam is all the same. React comes in many forms.
React is like 5 years old. I think calling for a new "Wunderschaum" every 10 years is more reasonable.
How many km's in?
I think the airbags will come alive once the react softens.
Enough to know. As I mentioned the forefoot bag is there at pace.
Such an unimaginative design,it looks like Nikes you find at Kohl's. They have to step up the design of the pegasus
What do you want on there? Sugar coated overlays and magic dust? I prefer a simple design and am not bothered much for a spangly daily shoe.
Hope they work out well Tim 👍🏼
@@TimGrose Yes, completely agree regarding the use cases. I sometimes use my Rebel V2's for the slower daily stuff, as they seem happier at ~5min/km pace than the endorphins. Liberate nitros definitely reserved for the shorter runs, but I just love the lack of weight when picking up the pace with these on my feet.
Hey Edd I was just thinking about you when listening to the Black Country, New Road album and I believe you’d quite enjoy that record. It is quite nice to listen to if I say so myself. It’s titled “Ants From Up There”.
Yes a super album. I have covered it in the musical interlude I think! Will revisit it again. 👍🏼
I just got mine today, went from the 37 to 39, the foam is a lot firmer than the 37, but it's good gives you more energy return, but on a slow pacing you feel the pod in both the front and back which is a little weird but not too bad.
Yeah these felt better a bit quicker in fairness
Great review man, Good job! Since you gave it 2.7 rating I want to know which is the best daily shoe for you? Actually I'm struggling to find a perfect pair for my dad, I want something highly comfortable, which he can wear all day long for walking and breathable. It's very hot here, it's always 30-45°C in summer, please suggest me something if you can. 😃
I would suggest something thinner and lighter. Maybe look at the Hyperion tempo from brooks or energy 4. Few running shoes are great for hotter places.
I didn’t rate the Peg 38 - way too hot for my feet! I preferred the 37.
Great review, but not sure I’ll be picking this up myself.
I’m this case you will like the 39.
Oh come on… I’ll have enough to construct a Throne of Shame from all of the trainer boxes I’ve been ‘persuaded’ by individuals on RUclips.
At least I’ll have lots of cardboard to use when the wife takes the house :)
@@barrelvisor any Ons in the shrine?
No, not yet.
I’ve not been compelled to buy the CloudMonsters (I have the PrimeX for max cushion)… but I’m sure if Mr Bud says the right things I will get something like that.
How do you guys from the uk get shoes released earlier if the company was made in the US
No idea. Though the shoes are made in China. Then sent back to everyone else.
The Peg 39 midsole felf almost the same as the Vomero 16. Soft and not too responsive. Still a nice anough new pair but Peg 38 best pair ever.
Don’t feel all that similar to me. The Vomero 16 is still a great shoe. But different vibe on foot.
The Adios 6 still stands supreme for the £110 figure.
Waiting for mine. Haven’t run. In peg since the 36 so let’s hope this one works thank you great review
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I just hope they get more colorways in the following days/weeks/months. It is so pale 3 versions of white with 1 black model. The Trail series are definitely more attractive. My personal humble opinion, of course (as mentioned, i am a person who appreciates the good looks lol ) :)))
Yes the ladies versions were really lacking too. Need a splash of colour and some interesting shades.
This reminds me of an upgraded Winflo 8. It's definitely a more streamlined looking version compared to the 37/38.
I have Winflo 7s, love the shoes and the price !! Peace ✌
I will definitely pick up a pair if I can find them in wide sizes. For one of the mainline shoes from such a big company I’m always surprised at how hard it is to find wide sizes in the Pegasus.
Yes noticed they had wide last time out.
Peg39 is also available in wide toe box version.
You bought the shoes with your own earth credits but did Frank Spencer provide the Beret?
Is these a good shoe for wide feet?
You should be ok. I think there is a wide fit version coming.
reminds me i was considering going with the kangol this spring/summer
It’s a lovely hat. 👍🏼
That Peg 39 has a clean profile, no excess, maybe like a Sunbeam Tiger.
Beret Good review, nice shoe, reasonable price, ooooh Betty!
Ohhh you devil! 👍🏼🤣
The grip on these is superb Christian. Could be a versatile number for all sorts of use cases.
Can you remove the insole?
Yes
Velocity 2 vs Peg 39 will be an interesting comparison and a choice I' m trying to make myself.
Velocity 2 any day . Not really a comparison. Running shoes vs clogs
Seemingly Velocity Nitro 2 bit lighter and softer but I need to do a run in my Peg 39s which have just arrived.
@@TimGrose Ah, will be looking forward to your video as well if you do one:)
@@robin29991 intend to!
They released in the UK?
Yes our now in 2 very boring colours.
Great music recommendation 👍
Holy midday video, Eddman
Had the same glue issue on my new flyease go "slippers".
why do retailers leave glue on the shoes it just seems unpleasant and I ordered a pair online it also had glue here and there I returned it right away I thought it was defective .
Yeah it’s just poor manufacturing.
Wow didnt expect poor manufacturing from company that is this famous
I'd love to pick some Nike shoes at some point (I have some apparel) ... but I keep hearing/reading so many stories about their bad quality control and air pods bursting during races.
No issues with any of mine but do see a number of air pod related issues.
In the toe box of the Peg 39 the same as the 38?
Feels a little lower. It the same width. Not as thick material in the 39
Is this the same shoe as the Nike Winflo 8?
No it’s a different shoe.
The Winflo 8 has the Fly Wires, front and back Air Bags. The upper looks similar. The Winflo 8 uses the Cushlon instead of React foam. Winflo 8 is under $100.00 USD.
Is it wide foot friendly? I went US10.5 on the 37 and US10 in the 38.
Closer to the 38 by my estimations. I found my 37 custom was quite tight in the toebox.
Never been a fan of the Peg, other than the fab Turbo editions. The Saucony Ride 15 is out soon, that looks like a great daily option, similar price point also 👍🏻
May grab the 15 to give me a good set of daily shoes to compare. Puma velocity nitro 2 coming up soon.
@@EDDBUD ah yes the Puma! Arrrrgh too many to choose from 😆
Would it work for someone with a pronated gait? Not sure how to put it
It’s got some reasonable stability there.
10.9 out of three you said it so confidently haha
Yep that’s the score. Oh wait …. 🤣
feet temperature in summer?
Thinner than the peg 38, though there are lighter out there if thats the main concern.
The 36 is probably one of the nike shoes that haven't prematurely self destruct on me though ive killed the mid and is probably my oldest runner that i still use . Though its been reliable ill probably wait for the Nova blast 3 or magic speed 2. ............my wife is going to kill me soon.
Good job!!!
Yes Ed!
Gold! 🥇
I have never buy any pegasus model before despite being one of Nike volume seller .
They are very popular in many places. I have worn many of the models over the years.
