    I work as a registered Biomedical Scientist in the NHS and I really enjoy my job. Very different process to medicine but we always have the patient in mind. My salary is ok, I’ve been qualified 2 years and last year with overtime and on-call payments I earned almost 40k. The money isn’t the be all and end all for me, I’m in it for the patients 😊

      I need some information regarding my future career pathway on biomedical science.
      Currently, i am studying in bachelor of biomedical sciences from university of bedfordshire . After completing my graduation what will be best for me? My degree is ISBM accredited.

    I also did biomedical science and I am a trainee biomedical scientist and feel the reality is different. Typically after graduating you would end up in an NHS lab as a lab assistant, where you'd be a band 2 (~22k pa) and you need a HCPC registration from IBMS to become a BMS band 5 (~28k pa) however due to staff shortages and high pressure in these labs, there is limited time to get your portfolio to get this registration done so you'd end up waiting years to get the chance of completing the portfolio to even be on a band 5 wage. I imagine private labs like your friend is in are very competitive to get into to get the high wage, however, I feel a lot of graduates would be following the NHS route.

      @@Svbaaaaaa agreed, however most universities don’t provide this information, as well as this, placement years are competitive and a few of my colleagues on placement are struggling to get their IBMS portfolio done due to backlogs within the NHS

      @@Svbaaaaaa I meant as in lack of information regarding placement year at a lab to get registration in order to become a B5 straight away. A lot of labs also dont let B2s do portfolios and require a trainee post, this isn’t a friend’s experience, it is my experience from working in 3 laboratories, im currently one of the trainers that mark portfolios so I do know what I’m talking about lol😂

    Currently I am an international student holding an offer to study MSCi Genetics from University of Manchester, and I plan to further expand my studies in Bioinformatics and Genomics.
    But I was quite afraid as I didnt knew how much you can get paid in a Biomedical sciences field.
    But this video helped to remove that fear and made me comfodent in pusuing my passion.
    Thanks Kenji 😊

    Hi Kenji,
    Loved the video it was so informative - and I agree salaries are still a taboo in university! I would definitely be interested in a video where you explore the different jobs your friends who graduated biomed did!

    Starters position in a supermarket in the Netherlands here earn an hourly rate of €18,- , roughly 15.5 pounds. I think 17 pounds is ridiculously low for a university lvl employee tbh
    PS, u earn double or 150% when working on Sundays and holidays or late hours(IN SUPEEMARKETS!!!)

    My son refuse to do BioScience & going for pharmacology at Top tier Uni? Is that good decision

    • @DoctorKenji
      @DoctorKenji  8 дней назад +2

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Both BioScience and Pharmacology are excellent fields with their own unique opportunities. Pharmacology, especially at a top-tier university, can offer a deep understanding of drug interactions and development, which is a highly valuable and specialized area of study. If your son is passionate about it, it's likely a great decision that could lead to a rewarding career.

    For me it's not about money. Straight up. My daughter wants to do medicine. Couldn't get the grades needed. Is the idea for spending an ADDITIONAL 3 YEARS doing biomedical degree a gimmick by universities in making additional money?

    Hi Kenji . Probably not your best field but do you have any connections or known BME (biomedical engineers)? As I’ve been interested in it instead of medicine but I’ve heard it’s very unemployable
