Adam Rivera Not only that. It ties up your USB port, cooks your battery and phone (vastly reducing the life)and adds more danger to burning your house down. It amazes me how people are willing to sacrifice so much just to avoid the difficult and time consuming (2 seconds)task of plugging in their phone once a day. Wireless charging is a gimmick that takes more than it adds.
I basically agree with you. But every time a connect my phone with this micro USB connector I have to think of the much more convenient round charging connector of the old Nokia phones. It was more easy to handle, because you just could not try to plug it in backwards. Just because it was round.
Hey, since last year's induction cookers didn't sell out, we're just gonna reuse the heating element part to cook a phone, and call it "The Phone Fryer". xD
very informative. i bought a receiver but noticed on first charging that it was getting very hot. i stopped my experiment before fire but my warning is to NOT use these ebay qi receivers
I can imagine, that this component (Z-diode ?) could possibly have survived, if the receiver was behind the phone cover. The extra distance of the thickness of the cover could have reduced the power transfer sufficiently. I once designed a wireless charging system and the voltage was tremendously dependent of the distance. But in this case the max. output current would probably be much less than 1A.
I'd love to learn more about it to save me from blowing up my phone or making it get overheated so I can actually charge my moto Pure G phone please 🙏🏽???? & Thank you sincerely.....
The transmitter is impressive. Well worth the price just for the coil itself! Looks like it's made from proper litz wire, and it includes a ferrite disc, which I don't know any source to buy from separately for a reasonable price. I'll definitely buy some of these transmitters just for the coils, I'd like to make some experiments with them (eg. a directional induction heater for heating up getter rings in vacuum tubes).
Given that the receiver still works, the component is probably a resistor. Diodes usually stop working when they release smoke, but resistors may still work even when smoking.
It looks like a diode to me. It might be a zener diode I think, just by looking at the PCB and the traces, but I'm not 100% sure. If it is a zener, that would explain why it continues to operate. (However there might be something getting too much voltage.)
I have had several of these units. Altho I didn't use the charging base you show here. Mine was the long rectangular one that the whole phone would sit on. Using that charger and one Qi receiver, I had one phone that would get hot. I used the exact same units on another phone, and I didn't have any issues with it. However, with what you have there, is a defective receiver unit. So far I've bought 6 receivers and haven't had any issues with them burning a hole in the casing.
Any suggestions you might have for me buying for a moto Pure G phone good Sir or Ma'am????? Just curious cos I'd love to save myself from a fire or loss of only phone I got or risk of wasting money? Sincerely, if you didn't mind sharing any types that might or may work for this moto Pure G phone I've got ?

Actually the part that sticks into the phone was broken, a few months later i found the base lying around at work and took it home. Charges both my Lumia 930 and my girlfriend's S6 just fine.
This is because the iPhone requires the data pins to be shorted with a resistor of specific value to work. Android/Windows devices do not require this at all. However, if they do have the shorted pins, it tells the device if it can charge at normal 1A or quick charge at >2A.

Personally I would prefer if phone manufacturers used magnetic attachments - The cable would attach itself when the phone is placed near it (like the magnetic micro USB ends available). Plus they offer the other advantages of a cable, i.e. no efficiency loss, faster charging and being able to use your phone while charging, which is not possible with a wireless charger. If someone trips over the cable, it will detach without the phone flying across the room.

The current is supposed to be controlled by the charger itself. His adaptor it's capable of supplying 2 amps, but it will only supply what the device plugged into it draws. In other words, it's the charging pad that connects to the phone that is the problem.

The only point I see is to avoid wearing the USB connector. I had a Nexus 5 a while back, that had a terrible battery life (1 day was good, and 2 days was really awesome) and if you plug in the micro USB connector a lot of time, it will wear it and in the Nexus 5 it's a pain to change because the whole phone is glued shut. So since it supported Qi charging, I just used that...
Yeah USB connectors wear out. I think a good way to protect them is to use a magnetic USB cable - as a bonus they're usually reversible and super easy to attach. It only looks good on phones which have a flat area around the USB socket, but then the insert protrudes very little and doesn't interfere, you just leave it in once and for all, and whenever you yank the cable, it detaches without stressing the socket much. But now that i've seen this video, i'm considering to add a wireless charger to my bicycle, powered by a dynamo hub and maybe some buffer batteries in the handle. If something catches on fire, it'll be outdoors anyway, and i can implement an insulation between phone case and the rest of bike electrics that way. There's a good chance that the low 45% efficiency was down to receiver having defective components, which stands to reason with it basically smoking. Perhaps if it was fine, it would be closer to 60-75%.

A few years too late for me, I found the same problems in efficiency and had to spend more money on more powerful USB chargers to use the Qi receivers that I installed on everything. Such a waste of money. Now I am converting everything to magnetic head USB cables.
the instructions said to not use more then a one amp charger this would limit output current and as well as heat. the receiver not controlling current is the trouble cause if you use a random wall wart and dont check current you could end up with fire or overheating. he showed using a 2 amp wall wart for a power supply but it drew 1.44 amp so it was being used out of specification but thats why its not a good idea to add without proper testing and validation. i wonder what results would have been with proper power supply of one amp. at 45% efficiency this is still to terrible to install. the 3000mAH battery would take more then 6000mAH from the wall this was a great video btw with good training and wording. the accent you have is your native tongue, people i wish you would just get over it is his and it makes his content still great. if you need more clarity try CC in settings.
Imagine: giving your best to make an entertaining and informational video, but then get a whole bunch of dislikes and kinda rude comments because your accent is not the same as the "standard" english accent. Wow congratulations
One of the suggested videos in the bar thing is a video from 4 years ago, saying how to add wireless charging to phones with another equally as unbranded receiver
ruclips.net/video/DuK4w9h-q5w/видео.html here is the video And of course the video is made by an Indian person At least it's one of those that aren't intended to be put inside
The problem is you can't use that wireless charger using ordinary mobile phone charger because they can output about 2 amp depending on your phone's battery current consumption. You have to make your own charging port whereas it limit its output current to 1 amp and less.

Now I am converting everything to magnetic head USB cables.
I love the way u talk😂😂😂🔥🔥😋😋
Tilan Liyanage baterrrriieesss

the instructions said to not use more then a one amp charger this would limit output current and as well as heat.
the receiver not controlling current is the trouble cause if you use a random wall wart and dont check current you could end up with fire or overheating.
he showed using a 2 amp wall wart for a power supply but it drew 1.44 amp so it was being used out of specification but thats why its not a good idea to add without proper testing and validation.
i wonder what results would have been with proper power supply of one amp.
at 45% efficiency this is still to terrible to install. the 3000mAH battery would take more then 6000mAH from the wall
this was a great video btw with good training and wording. the accent you have is your native tongue, people i wish you would just get over it is his and it makes his content still great.
if you need more clarity try CC in settings.
I also haaave thiiss chageeerr
Imagine: giving your best to make an entertaining and informational video, but then get a whole bunch of dislikes and kinda rude comments because your accent is not the same as the "standard" english accent.

One of the suggested videos in the bar thing is a video from 4 years ago, saying how to add wireless charging to phones with another equally as unbranded receiver
ruclips.net/video/DuK4w9h-q5w/видео.html here is the video
And of course the video is made by an Indian person
At least it's one of those that aren't intended to be put inside
Czech beer = universal fire extinguisher :D
I'd like to see an updated video with a modern phone and with a slightly more expensive brand of charger and receiver.
Your Sound is hillarious
Thank you for explaining everything properly...thanks a lot..
The problem is you can't use that wireless charger using ordinary mobile phone charger because they can output about 2 amp depending on your phone's battery current consumption. You have to make your own charging port whereas it limit its output current to 1 amp and less.
