I haven't listened to this video yet (I will!), but I did look up a few other serious composers who easily got to Opus. 299: Darius Milhaud: Divertissement for wind quintet, Op. 299b (1958) after the film score Gauguin, Op. 299. Alan Hovhaness Sonata "Mt Belknap", op 299. - toby

Czerny won’t give up so easily on opuses numbers:

I had to study this some time ago, very slowly (and it came out sloppy anyway); now I'd be curious to study it again to see if I can play it at a more appropriate speed: those exercises need to be played pretty fast to be enjoyable.

@@DJLantz4 he was a good student as well.. he learned his lessons from Beethoven well, you can hear it.. and he passed this on to one of his great students, who also learned their lessons well.. franz Liszt.. Czerny is VERY underrated.. imo..

@DJLantz4 He wrote so much, and only some of it is truly scintillating, like this piece. A few pieces are even profound. I doubt that 10% of what he wrote reaches that level. That's why he's not so highly regarded. He should have published his finer pieces entirely separately from his "textbooks."

E così dovrebbe a mio parere sempre essere!
Il mio professore al conservatorio di Ginevra (un genio della pedagogia: era capace di far suonare un sasso) NON permetteva nemmeno una, dico una, nota senza musicalità!
