Love the fact this gets straight into it. One observation: smash factor is just ball speed / club speed so no point comparing it if you have the other two. Loving the channel.

I love my PRGR. I’ve tried just about every monitor under 2k and this one is the best value by far. I also love it because it’s one of the few that measures swing speed without needing to hit a ball, so ideal for speed training! I just keep it in the bag.

Thanks for a great video. Would be interesting to see two Trackman next to each other. I'd bet there are variances between them also.

Just a heads up, but make sure you're propping the PRGR up off the ground a little bit.. it will make it more accurate at reading clubhead speed if it's a few inches off the ground. If you have it just sitting on the ground behind you it can misread more.

Sounds like you may be comparing carry distance on one of the devices with total distance (which estimates rollout) on the other. You need to toggle those two distance options on the prgr.

I had one and returned it. The club head speed swinging without a ball was about 10-20mph slower than swinging with a ball in place. Didn't fill me with any confidence so returned it. Might as well have my daughter standing behind me and calling out random numbers. Seems many have experienced this but the distributor never acknowledged this. Perhaps just a faulty unit, but a common problem.

You (as potential buyer) just need to compare the clubhead speed and ball speed. Those are the 2 values that the PRGR measures. With Trackman the source of truth, we can assess how well PRGE measures.
PRGR doesn't measure/calculate carry distance like Trackman which takes into account spin, launch angle, club head path... PRGR uses a fixed formula to calculate carry distance based solely on ball speed and clubhead speed. So if those are miss match with Trackman, carry distance, smash factors etc... also differ.

I have Garmin R10 and recently bought PRGR as a gift for my dad (I've found it very cheap, like $60 on Amazon, and bought it without hesitation).
The unique feature of PRGR is measuring club speed without the ball. You can just swing your driver as fast as you can and measure. It is even a really cool competition during a garden party/barbecue ;-).
PRGR gives very basic info. Just ball speed and clubhead speed. Distance is not relevant. Smash factor is just calculated.
Garmin R10 is a proper launch monitor, not as precise as Trackman, and gives you fewer data (esp. R10 lacks info about low point and impact location).
But still, R10 is really a portable training studio, I use it on driving range sessions when I am working on my swing, delivery, and so on, to have some detailed info about the shot.
PRGR is way easier to setup, you just put it on the ground/small tripod and you are ready to go, while with R10 you need your phone/tablet connected, fire the app, and sometimes R10 does not want to connect with an android phone (iOS works fine).
R10 costs around $600. I would not pay $300 for PRGR. If you can find PRGR cheaper - go for it.

I have had one of these for about 8 months and I always use it during my home practice sessions. For me the key number is the ball speed followed closely by Club head speed. I paid little to no attention to the carry distance because launch and spin effect that number way too much. I cannot recommend this enough to anybody for the home practise net.

Hi john, I like your reviews on this product. You mentioned that you were not focusing on quality of strike in this session. But isn’t quality of strike essential to obtain the most accurate carry distance? Seems to me that you can focus on the good strikes and disregard the bad ones, that you can get a pretty good average per club, for gapping purposes …?

Hi Thomas, I more meant that I wasn't worried about going through my pre-shot routine, beating myself up if the shot was my best etc. More taking the view that it was about comparing the results the two devices could pick up. Hope that makes some sense...

    Nice video.
Just wondering if anyone who has bought one of these, used the club head speed data to help decide what golf ball they use?
Does the ratio of club head speed to compression increase performance?
I'm thinking of buying one of these and that's part of the reason.
