Love this! My hair dresser is an og hair police guy. He does pinch braids on all my hair. Love him & this method … but he’s so busy (and pricy, though worth it) & if it were someone else’s head, I could totally do it but on my own, nope…
So
I’m trying to invent some way to like prefab hair that I can install myself.
I’m thinking some sort of combo of Brazilian knot/pinchbraid or moreso like something like prelooped hair works, like w dread extensions or crochet extensions!! Andrew’s technique is totally like yours you prolly know each other ha. How he’ll cut the hair off the weft (tape lately cause I get rad grey or lilac via Amazon) then blend them a bit in two hands then folds a couple inches over w thread and braids into a strand of my hair then ties the thread into a knot. It lasts forever!
I’ve seen this done w/o thread just by tying some of the hair itself, and I though Brazilian knots were different! This is cool cause I wouldn’t have to lose so much length from both cutting and folding… though if I could maybe rig these up to a base, for creation, I’m thinking there’s gotta be many ways I could kinda prefabricate something for installing on myself.
There’s crochet loop hair for black hair I’ve seen recently and I’m like yeasss but hmm could I make that myself? (My hairs still all in pieces, w little bit of dreading on each from time… so that could work fit my advantage, for what ever it is I could do !!
Was thinking maybe affixing two pieces (I mean one extensions worth, not a strand of hair ha,) together at the top like the loop hair that’s open rather than looped … either w keratin or a bead or both. W an elastic in between… then the expensive ass 22-24 inch hair I get could actually still be that long… & THIS thought is the most exciting.
Or maybe still folding some over then …Brazilian knotting!? Or keratin glueing? Or even a dumb ol ckear elastic or pinch bead or something… the beads are so small and too annoying to do all on my head. If I could think of a way to make a loop too that’s make things self installable
I feel like there must be a simple answer…
ANY ideas or thoughts very appreciated! I feel this is an idea needing fulfillment… so much so that it must exist. I know how to bake dreads, just like you do ‘em… but using human hair is the issue here…
OOOOOH WAIT maybe I just a new idea!… somehow maybe using some synthetic hair along w the human fit installation/prefabrication’s sake?… and yes my hair will need to be taken out and refine or I’m essentially just getting dreads anyways but

Hey thanks! Sounds like you've got some awesome ideas. The only thing that I've done that might be close, was when I was installing hh dreads - where I used a tiny o-ring from the hardware store. I used that loop to create a permanent attachment point on my human hair. Then I used that to braid in so that I could take them in and out as I needed to. Hopefully that makes sense and gives you a few more ideas. :)
@@doctoredlocks thanks for the reply! I’ve been tweaking with stuff all night and come up with some great doable things thanks to you! Do you mean you use a black oring, like use on gauged jewelry? Black round rubber? That’s a great idea! But since I don’t have any I was fiddling w crush beads used w itips… and the key to my discovery I finally just realized was so simple! Cut the tape thin! So it’s still holding the whole piece but then if I just split it I can fold it and braid it and it blends in! I was trying all these ways to make a loop but then the other lightbulb moment is to crush a bead thing (I use silicone lined round ones) on my natural hair near the root (well, this will not work w the stuff still in my hair but OMG I’ve pondered years how to make this doable myself and I think I just made it doable simple! :))
Do you mean you have your o-ring attached to the root of dread? Or on your head? I think you mean on the dread but the latter would be cool! Don’t know how that’d work though. Hair is fun. I’m not going full dreads, keeping things loose on the end, though I spend so much money on this hair I’ve decided it’s finally time to make dreads out of the used ones. Never done it before on me full on but my natural hair is shaved on sides and back and not very long due to bleaching the duck out so… yep yep

Omg, right!?! I think one of the easiest methods to do yourself is tape hair. I want to do a video on that to show people how to do that on themselves. Knots... well... those are a bit trickier! :)
Michelle Rose I actually installed my own Brazilian Knots. Once you get a rhythm going it becomes easier.

No, definitely not easy. Pretty much every other system is easier on yourself. I'd look at tape hair if I were trying to do something

What causes the hair to shed from the middle even though I'm gripping tight it there another way
It could be either that your bonds are too thick or that the thread isn't going down far enough on the strands - that would be my guess.
Is there a way to create your own clip on wefts using this technique? I am looking for a way to add temporary color to my every day wear wig. Sometimes I feel like adding in some blue or pink and I also am very crafty and instead of buying them want to make my own weft/clip in extensions. But I don't want to damage or permanently alter my wig so I thought clip in extensions using this technique would be a great idea your advice would be greatly appreciated!
Yeah, you could use a similar method to wrap hair and secure it around a piece of flat elastic - then you could sew the clips to the elastic. :)

Which do you recommend more this method or microbeads?
Personally, microbeads. They are way faster. This is a great method if you are limited on tools and have the time, but it does take forever!
Excellent tutorial! I am trained in fusion and microlinks. For price point purposes would this technique be more , less, or right around the same in terms of what I would charge a client?
It would probably be similar, but it depends on your market. Some people really love it and swear by it.

if u do it this way won't the hair shed...drastically....?
They last for up to three months - I don't recommend longer because you'll want to comb out your roots so they don't dread up. Three months is about max on that.
Does the hair shed like crazy?
It doesn't if you have enough tension in your thread. However, I wouldn't try this with hair that snags or also if you are an aggressive brusher. Seems like that may be asking for trouble. :)
How thick should the thread be?
We use an elastic thread. The thickness is less important than the material. :)
