The point and click feel was already there on squeek and sausage, and IMHO is the reason Unlock can become the best and most varied escape room game (even if this is because its shifting away from pure escape rooms). Anyhow, number 3 is coming out in French today and includes a S&S sequel, an Oz based adventure and Wild West.

I bought and played my first Unlock! game last week. It was Nautical Traps and I absolutely fell in love with it. I really want to get the whole collection. I’m a huge fan of T.I.M.E. Stories so this game was right up my alley.

Full Throttle by Lucas, God how I miss those days.

Looks like there are some complaints on BGG about "Nautilus’ Traps". Did it stick out to you as broken or poorly translated?

right, i forgot about that. there was one puzzle which we couldn't figure out and had to use the help system to get through, and it turns out it's because a really weird obsolete word was presented which i don't think anyone could ever figure out. that was dumb, but we got past it quick and forgot about it till just this moment :)

Don't be, Tonipal is really straightforward. There are a few times that it made us feel really dumb, after resorting to the hints, then realizing how obvious the clue was, but other that that it's a really straightforaard and fun scanario.

Hey rahdo, which of the unlock games is your favorite? How would you rank them all?

If the island of dr goorse isn't at the bottom I'd be really surprised. That game was complete and utter BS.

toddhunter123 haha I don't know how anyone was supposed to finish the Island of doctor Goorse in an hour.

basically, the harder their ranking, the less we enjoy them. you could literally arrange them by official difficulty level, and that would almost guaranteed match our enjoyment of them. the harder they get, the more unreasonable they get (IMO) in terms of what you're intended to figure out. i talked about this in the original video, so i figured no reason to rehash that here, but maybe i should have :)

try to keep the phone STADYYYYYYYY.....

I really hate board games that need to rely so heavily on a freaking phone app in order for it to work.

shame, as your missing out on some truly spectacular boardgaming experiences as a result...

rahdo possibly, but one of the reasons I play boardgames is to get away from the digital world for a while and play in an analog one. Also, where will these games be in the next 10 years or more? What if the app is no longer offered for some reason? You're now stuck with an unplayable game.

fear of the future shouldn't prevent enjoyment of the present, imo. i live close to the sea. global sea levels are rising. clearly i should never buy any games as a result, because i might be stuck with an "unplayable game" in the future due to flooding.
or instead, i'll get the game, enjoy it, and worry about tomorrow tomorrow. life is short. you could get hit by a bus at any time. better to enjoy it while you can rather than worry about whether you can enjoy it 10 years from now.
and a sound track/timer/hint system doesn't suddenly make a game digital. 90% analog is still an analog game. atmospheric music makes the experience better, regardless of what the source of the music is. help to get past the frustrating parts makes the game better, regardless of what the source of the help is. interactive objects that make the game feel less abstract and more grounded make the game experience better, regardless of what the source of those objects are :)

rahdo That's kind of a ridiculous analogy. How about we use a better and more relevant example? I have board games that are over 30 years old and still playable. Now, what if one of those 30 year old board games relies heavily on you running a program from a 5.25 disk in an old IBM compatible computer? That boardgame would be pretty much useless nowadays, would it not?

issues brought about by climate change are far from ridiculous, imo.
but lets put that aside if you like and observe that in the humid climate i live in, mold is *much* more likely reason that I won't be able to play a given game in 30 years than digital obsolesce. after all, most any 30 year old videogame i want to play today is readily available via emulators, and that's only going to become more common in the future. for example, here, enjoy some sweet sweet Chopper Command (my fave game from 35 years ago): www.virtualatari.org/soft.php?soft=Chopper_Command
so again, with your logic, i should never buy any game, because in 30 years it might be unplayable due to mold (note, i've had to throw away games due to mold that I've had for less than 5 years).
which is why again i'll suggest one shouldn't let their fear of the future prevent one from enjoying one's self today. life is too short :)
