Oh man. Yea, the animation team. I’m 90% sure they were literally slaves in China from the stories the Production Designer said after visiting the studio.
We actually just rewatched this movie a few weeks ago. The reason Velma’s wardrobe changes is that they’re brainwashing the monsters into looking and behaving like average teenagers. It actually makes a lot of sense why Velma’s wardrobe changed while her soul was out of her body, it wasn’t her. She was being changed to look more modern/with the times. And immediately in the next scenes after she gets her soul back she’s back in her usual attire that fits her personality more.

4:54 made me finally realize as a 20 year old man that Matthew Lillard had to pretend to look at a dog the whole time. Like I know that Scooby Doo isn't real but I never really thought about it 🤔🤔
So this film was originally meant to be a dark comedy satire of scooby doo. Then the studio got involved and said it needed to be a kids film. So the "bad" decisions were actually quite intentional and funny, but the comedy of them got lost as the studio got more influence.
I unironically love this movie, when I was little I watched it so many times, quoted it constantly, reenacted scenes and even watched all the out takes and making of content on the DVD.
Actually, this movie was originally meant for an older audience. And Velma's Wardrobe Change happened in a deleted scene that didn't make it into the final cut. There was A LOT cut out of this movie and a lot more that never even made it into the Film Production. But her Wardrobe absolutely makes sense when you look into the background and History of this movie and it's deleted/not even included scenes. Oh, and did I mention that a lot of scenes were RE-SHOT.... Like that scene with the BBQ Pit and the smoke coming out the top.... Let's just say the ORIGINAL Scene was mu h more 420 Friendly..! 😂 🤣
If I had a nickel for every RUclipsr I’m subscribed to who covered the live action Scooby-Doo movies this week while dressed like Velma, I’d have two nickels-which isn’t much, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Those rabbit monsters look pretty good, like Jim Henson animatronics or Will Vinton's claymation. I think Scooby himself just has an Uncanny Valley look because he's super cartoony while being just realistic enough... Like the earlier character design from the Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
I vividly remember this movie because they would play it all the time on TV and I would watch it every single time because I loved it. I remember many details.
Well, actually the Mr. Bean's character already owned the island/etc, Scrappy took over. He said something about Scrappy showing up for an "Audition for our evil elves" or something, but it was like half-mumbled IIRC so it's easy to miss. The rest of the Scrappy plan is a bit odd still. Also, I had this on during work so sorry if I missed you mentioning, but the other reason they had Daphne in that really fun fight scene is she was played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Buffy, and this filmed/released was during the show's run (IIRC Buffy ended in 03). My mom and I would watch both this and it's sequel (which is admittedly better in every single way) so many times when I was growing up. I still love them and they are the best kind of dumb fun. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo was rerun a TON until like the mid-00s, especially in the late mornings. It was commonly my "I'm home sick" cartoon as a kid. Also, I'm pretty sure the filming was all done before 9/11 happened, which is why Scooby could do *that* and not get stopped by airport security. People forget (and I barely have any memory of it myself, honestly) that a lot of airports used to be SUPER lax. Linda Cardellini (Velma) would later voice Marcie in the '10s series Mystery Incorporated, who was a villain/rival of Velma's, then later a friend with *implications* that was later confirmed by creators to be intended/written to be Velma's girlfriend but had to tone it down as well.
The Scooby live action Duology is INCREDIBLE and I'll always love it. The second movie is like THE (second) MOST IMPORTANT movie of my childhood, losing only to Spider Man 2, and I can definitely relate to that "my mom doesn't remember it" part, a couple of months ago she asked me to put on some dumb fun movie for her and she legit didn't remember ANYTHING about the movie, even though I still quote it on the daily
I went to the see the second one in theater with my family and I was in kindergarten at the time. One of the opening museum scenes scared me so my mom and I switched theaters to see Home on the Range. Re watching the movie I still can't point out exactly what sequence made me cry.
I remember about 4 things off the top of my head about this Daphne vs masked wrestler, Shaggy's crush, clown ghost at the start, and Shaggy and Scooby-Doo's weed food joke
this movie is so iconic and nostalgic for me, I literally watch it like once a year,, but hearing the plot described from an outside perspective has made me realize how much more wild this movie was than I realized,, the chaos has just been so normalized to me, that being said I still think it's a movie everyone needs to experience in adulthood at least once
I'm a bit older and remember this movie completely. I adore this damn film. They had the most perfect cast they could ever get for such a thing. You may disagree but I think it still holds up pretty well. A pup name scooby was also a good time. Not one of the best they've got though.
Whenever Scooby Doo is mentioned, my mind flashes back to this movie, as I too was really into it as a kid, even though my memories of it are about as little and vague as Gabi's. I remember a bunch of dumb weed jokes that my child self didn't understand and I remember really liking Velma and thinking she was cool but not yet understanding that I was actually just being very gay for her.
I never forget those movies. I try to show them to everyone I know and randomly quote them. Maybe it's because I love Scooby Doo and Mathew Lillard was so hot as Shaggy
I LOVE Sugar Ray and Simple Plan. I love the live action movie so much it like teleports me back to a happy place lmao I adore Scooby Doo in general, thank you for doing this lol best video I have seen today.
I watched this movie so many times and watched Buffy and until two weeks ago it never clicked that Sarah Michelle played Daphne. I’m truly ashamed of myself.
It's somehow even funnier to watch this just a few days after watching the fnaf movie, I never forgot Mathew Lillard was Shaggy, but it's much more vivid to see him again 😂
9:26 Hey, just so you are aware, there was a deleted scene on how they extract the souls from the bodies and the monster take over. The monsters were taking the unconscious bodies back to the cave from soul extraction using that pryramind thing Daphne finds earlier in the movie. It got cut because it was deemed "too traumatizing" for children.
It was supposed to be rated R. They're talking about coming out with another one that's going to be rated R but I think they should just remaster this one and put in the scenes they took out
I visited the island where it was filmed last week and it is iconic the real life spooky island is called moreton island in Queensland Australia and it is like stepping into this movie. Childhood me was sceaming
James Gunn didn't direct that Suicide Squad (the bad one) he directed THE Suicide Squad (the good one) which is probably the best DC movie from the last 10 years
I loved this film so much as a kid I watched it five times in a row one morning! Watching it again, it's fd up how we watch scooby's soul get ripped from his body...
Packed midnight screening of this last year was awesome. Tim Curry was offered the villain role, but he already hated Scrappy Doo from the series and turned it down 😂
Long forgotten memories have just been unlocked. Thank you but also how could you have done this lol. This movie is so ironically gold that it became unironically good
I freakin loved this movie as a child!! I was 11 when it came out. 12 when I was able to own the (very exciting very new technology) dvd! I watched it so much. It was actually my step bros dvd but I stole it from him because he never watched it. I think the cast is still spot on 👌 Also, as a child, I never picked up on the pot references throughout the movie. Even the name Mary Jane was perfectly normal and unassuming in my child brain. As an adult with a medical marijuana license, I must do Shaggt proud and spark up one night to this movie and let the nostalgia reign 💚
I can definitely see Ryan Gosling playing Fred in a Scooby-Doo live-action reboot. Maybe in an alternate universe, Oppenheimer would’ve competed with Scooby-Doo, with Ryan Gosling as Fred and Margot Robbie as Daphne 🤣 And yeah, Mr. Bean is an comedy icon 👌
I definitely remember remembering the movie and questioning if I had conjured it up in a fever dream myself, literally. I also remember scrappy doo and the monsters being kinda hot. I stand by that.
Wow, this sure is a trip down memory lane. I'm actually shocked at how well I remember some of these scenes, given I was 7 when this movie released. I also distinctly remember that my brother and I went around making that pumping guesture from the fart-off whenever letting one fly lol.

4:54 made me finally realize as a 20 year old man that Matthew Lillard had to pretend to look at a dog the whole time. Like I know that Scooby Doo isn't real but I never really thought about it 🤔🤔
“Nothing makes sense. I’m having a blast.”
That is exactly how I would put this movie.
This movie will always hold a place in my heart. Still love and enjoy it as an adult.
Welp, I just waisted my time informing you about this..! 😂 🤣
Just gonna leave it here anyway for anyone interested in a tinier deeper dive. Lol
Gabi! Please watch the second one! It's so camp and leans hard into the silliness of Scooby-Doo!
If I had a nickel for every RUclipsr I’m subscribed to who covered the live action Scooby-Doo movies this week while dressed like Velma, I’d have two nickels-which isn’t much, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Is it just me or does the CGI actually not look that bad...? It looks great to me, especially for the time.
Those rabbit monsters look pretty good, like Jim Henson animatronics or Will Vinton's claymation. I think Scooby himself just has an Uncanny Valley look because he's super cartoony while being just realistic enough... Like the earlier character design from the Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
It's pretty bad, it's fine if you like the movie but CGI looks really fake, regardless of realise date
@notville_why did you copy the comment above you?
when you compare it to The Mummy Returns, everything looks great xD
@notville_ what are you talking about
James Gunn actually directed the 2021 The Suicide Squad not the 2016 Suicide Squad, that was done by David Ayer
Probably the pterodactyl ghost, that thing was pretty spooky
I remember about 4 things off the top of my head about this Daphne vs masked wrestler, Shaggy's crush, clown ghost at the start, and Shaggy and Scooby-Doo's weed food joke
I love this movie with a passion and the Monster Chant song still lives on in my head 22 years later
this movie is so iconic and nostalgic for me, I literally watch it like once a year,, but hearing the plot described from an outside perspective has made me realize how much more wild this movie was than I realized,, the chaos has just been so normalized to me, that being said I still think it's a movie everyone needs to experience in adulthood at least once
I'm a bit older and remember this movie completely. I adore this damn film. They had the most perfect cast they could ever get for such a thing. You may disagree but I think it still holds up pretty well.
A pup name scooby was also a good time. Not one of the best they've got though.
The way Heath Ledger reinvented the Joker is the way Matthew Lilard reinvented the character of Shaggy
True acting at its finest
Whenever Scooby Doo is mentioned, my mind flashes back to this movie, as I too was really into it as a kid, even though my memories of it are about as little and vague as Gabi's. I remember a bunch of dumb weed jokes that my child self didn't understand and I remember really liking Velma and thinking she was cool but not yet understanding that I was actually just being very gay for her.
i was so obsessed with this film growing up. i still love it and find it a great movie that doesn't take itself too seriously to be overly cringe.
every time i look back on this movie i legit think i’m dreaming all over again lmao
I never forget those movies. I try to show them to everyone I know and randomly quote them. Maybe it's because I love Scooby Doo and Mathew Lillard was so hot as Shaggy
How could've you forgotten this movie! It's so iconic, some scenes are a core memory in my brain
I agreee!!! The crane game scene is something I will always remember and the dark ride scene too
I LOVE Sugar Ray and Simple Plan. I love the live action movie so much it like teleports me back to a happy place lmao I adore Scooby Doo in general, thank you for doing this lol best video I have seen today.
David Ayer directed 2016’s ‘masterpiece’ Suicide Squad. James Gunn made The Suicide Squad in 2021.
We can all agree that Gabby nails this Velma costume.
I watched this movie so many times and watched Buffy and until two weeks ago it never clicked that Sarah Michelle played Daphne. I’m truly ashamed of myself.
I'm 43 and loved this movie when my daughter was young. We watched it a million times.
That outfit is so naural and beautiful on you that it took me too long to realize that it was your Velma cosplay for the video!
12:04 SCOOBY GOT UPSET 🤣
True lol
I watched this movie so much as a kid that the dvd is now extremely worn down... my life makes a lot of sense now
Linda Cardellini definitely awakened something in me as a kid
It's somehow even funnier to watch this just a few days after watching the fnaf movie, I never forgot Mathew Lillard was Shaggy, but it's much more vivid to see him again 😂
9:26 Hey, just so you are aware, there was a deleted scene on how they extract the souls from the bodies and the monster take over. The monsters were taking the unconscious bodies back to the cave from soul extraction using that pryramind thing Daphne finds earlier in the movie. It got cut because it was deemed "too traumatizing" for children.
Lmaoooo this took me back🤣🤣🤣🤣 and you nailed your costume🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
It was supposed to be rated R. They're talking about coming out with another one that's going to be rated R but I think they should just remaster this one and put in the scenes they took out
this is STILL one of my favorite movies to this day lmao. my step dad pulled me out of school to see it in theaters jffhbfh
I visited the island where it was filmed last week and it is iconic the real life spooky island is called moreton island in Queensland Australia and it is like stepping into this movie. Childhood me was sceaming
1:25 sameee 🫶🏻 I loved scooby doo period but “a pup named scooby doo” was my favorite
Tim Curry was offered the villain role, but he already hated Scrappy Doo from the series and turned it down 😂
gabi getting scared when her dog barked the second time made me giggle LOL
Long forgotten memories have just been unlocked. Thank you but also how could you have done this lol. This movie is so ironically gold that it became unironically good
I absolutely love all of the scooby doo live action movies. I remember so much of it
I freakin loved this movie as a child!! I was 11 when it came out. 12 when I was able to own the (very exciting very new technology) dvd!
I watched it so much. It was actually my step bros dvd but I stole it from him because he never watched it.
I think the cast is still spot on 👌
Also, as a child, I never picked up on the pot references throughout the movie. Even the name Mary Jane was perfectly normal and unassuming in my child brain.
As an adult with a medical marijuana license, I must do Shaggt proud and spark up one night to this movie and let the nostalgia reign 💚
5:02 Nah, that's a fair thing to forget. *Rowan Atkinson* is British, but Bean is a space alien.
Ryan Gosling would work so well as modern Fred Jones honestly. Also, it still surprises me that Americans are familiar with Mr. Bean.
Man a lot of people are from different countries are familiar with Mr. Bean, even in Chile y Brasil we know the guy. Dude is a legend
né. mr bean é patrimonio da humanidade.@@H.LeonideSouza
Yeah Mr. Bean is global. You don’t need to speak any one language to know how funny Mr. Bean is.
I can definitely see Ryan Gosling playing Fred in a Scooby-Doo live-action reboot.
Maybe in an alternate universe, Oppenheimer would’ve competed with Scooby-Doo, with Ryan Gosling as Fred and Margot Robbie as Daphne 🤣
And yeah, Mr. Bean is an comedy icon 👌
Mr. Bean is Johnny English too and he was also in rat race which is memorable too haha
Shaggy just putting the dudes soul back in the cauldron was probably the most evil thing in this movie
The only movie that scooby doo needs is Zombie Island, I'll fight anyone over that.
Had no idea 'A pup named Scooby Doo' came out in 1988. I was born a year later. Mind blown. Definitely thought it was a 90s show.
I definitely remember remembering the movie and questioning if I had conjured it up in a fever dream myself, literally.
I also remember scrappy doo and the monsters being kinda hot. I stand by that.
uh oh we've got a monster fcker in the chat folks
woke up from a 4h nap exactly as this aired lets go
You always have an excellent take on what shot is missing and which shot should have been cut ✌🏻
Wow, this sure is a trip down memory lane. I'm actually shocked at how well I remember some of these scenes, given I was 7 when this movie released. I also distinctly remember that my brother and I went around making that pumping guesture from the fart-off whenever letting one fly lol.
