I haven't heard Emmy for years! Saw a (very positive!) review this morning in the paper for the new album and it recommended this song so I thought I'd check it out. Very nice, that final minute is pure bliss.

This is amazing! love the song and the video. I love how first you are playing piano, then its some beautiful moving watercolours, and there's a written story which you can read at the same time as hearing the lyrics, but they somehow don't clash, and the photos from China, and then out of nowhere you have the clips of the zoom meeting and the recording session, which was so unexpected but genius! I love how the erhu came in and the music floated up to the sky (or maybe it was violin pretending to be an erhu?), and then come the bass and electro pop sounds, and then the whole thing went to another place again. By the end, I am blown away. A glorious artwork. Diolch yn fawr xxx

In an another version The Jade emperor sons turned into literary suns so he ask Hou Yi the greatest archer to deal with it shockingly the emperor didn’t think the greatest archer would shoot down the suns so he kicked Hou Yi and Chang’e out of heaven so they became mortals. Hou Yi heads to the Queen Mother of the West, she gives him one elixir of immortality Hou Yi goes back and tells Chang’e that this one elixir can give one of us full god immortality or if we drink half we get a discount immortality they both don’t want to leave each other so they hide it but Hou Yi apprentice hears about this when Hou Yi is out the apprentice tries to steal the Elixir but Chang’e drinks it all as self sacrifice but she floats to heaven they don’t let her in so she went to the moon where she has a pet rabbit that loves to make moon cakes Hou Yi also leaves out Chang’e favorite desserts as an offering. This tale is credited to kick start the mid autumn festival. Also try a moon cake

can anyone tell me what the background instrument is? the stringed, traditional sounding one? (it comes in around 2:39.) my initial guess is a sanxien, but i am musically illiterate and can't play anything myself.
oh wait... watching the video it times with a violin?? how??? 😭
