Absolutely nothing wrong with a two stroke lil chopper like this one! This machine is so cool!! I would love to learn to fly this or even own one. It's not a toy by any means but it is a small bad a$$ chopper, I dig it! Looks like so much fun to fly open air like that also! :)
Wow! Listen to that little 2-stroke burn up at almost 13,000 rpm! One flight per engine. That's impressive. That folks, is how you get 64hp out of a 520cc engine.
Yeah I miss my old '95 CR 125R! It was an awesome bike. Around the same time, a friend of mine got a '94 CR250 & we would swap occasionally for fun. He was less experienced at riding than I was & he had some trouble with my 125 on my hilly & tight bush track we made. My 125 was set up with a mid-high pipe (more top end) so you needed to slip the clutch to get it in power band, which was a bit of a juggling act. Not enough revs; stall, too many revs; wheelie & if you weren't on it quick, over the back you went! It didn't worry me any, but I loved his 250 for the big chunk of low to mid range grunt it had & the same reason he went for the 250 & not a 125. The only thing we both had to be mindful of was head shake when doing flat out runs in the nearby sugarcane fields! Keeping the weight rearwards at speed seemed to help, that & gripping white-knuckle tight on the grips😲. Ahh good times!😄

The killer here was that Rotax 582 which wasn’t initially designed for flight! This aircraft needed a more powerful fuel injected FADEC minimum 90HP! So sad to see such a beautiful project go down under!!! If I or anybody purchase one, airframe inspection is a must and a new power source
It holds 15 gal. It burns a consistent 5.5 gal/hr. I have had this bird in the air for a full 2 hrs several times. Leaves you plenty of reserve. I only burn 100LL. It will run on pump gas but your EGTs and CHTs will run significantly higher on pump gas. Range of course depends on load, wind , temperature, ECT ECT.

That thing sounds like an old 1960's or 70's Hodaka Super Rat or Dirt Squirt with the carburetors trying to load up and won't open up correctly... So the question I have is why do these things cost ten's of thousands of dollars, I don't understand?

To answer your question, These helicopters "things" do not cost tens of thousands of dollars. This one just sold for 1 "tens" . You can find these "things" in all sorts of conditions for anywhere between a couple bucks and what the owner thinks they're worth. Both of my birds were registered and flying. It's an era. The history of this particular helicopter is actually quite interesting. It helped bring helicopter technology to a simplistic and affordable option to recreational flying. Even as there are obvious reasons for the demise of this made in the USA helicopter, This company was laying some of the pavement on a couple decades of gravel roads. Bottom line is,… this helicopter thing is what it is. I Really enjoyed owning 2 flying Mini 500's.
