We are working hard on a complete interior refit of our 1996 Venezia 42 Catamaran Sailboat made by Fountaine Pajot. Our DIY Teak floors will come in significantly cheaper than other teak products. This Teak flooring is a very easy DIY project that anybody can do! A little time and patience and you can achieve a beautiful teak floor or cabin sole also!

I'm a woodworker and would have done it the hard way, but your method is very efficient and practical. Great job!

I have used Ridgid power tools PROFESSIONALLY for 15+ years and would HIGHLY recommend them to ANYBODY. And their warranty is Second to NONE!
I also watch "Ship Happens", and I am definitely going to post this to them as a great way to make faux teak for their boat - a 1942 (Wooden) Harbour Defence Motor Launch (HDML 1342) that was actually used for the D-Day invasion!
We totally agree! I abandoned the yellow tools years ago when I saw Ridgid reviews and their warranty. So far, I haven’t had to use the warranty. They are awesome work horses.
Very nice work. Unfortunately, the fiberglass sole on my boat is not flat, so I can’t use a piece of plywood. Some people glue down that EVA foam that would conform to contours, but I don’t trust the durability of that stuff. Still trying to figure out how I could dress up my bland fiberglass sole. Thanks for the video!

Hi Jackie! First, thank you for considering becoming a “Crew Mate”. There are three ways incorporated in to each video and one of the three wasn’t working. (I’ve fixed it now). Our holly is light, but Todd thinks we can reverse the process with a pinstripe painters tape and stain the big space.
Yep!!! It would be a little harder to keep the lines straight but I’m sure you guys can do it!
@@SaltyEscape Todd's even just found the right tape, I guess it's called K Tape and it comes in thinner widths. Yay!! Good to have a plan but it's kinda low on our priority list right now. LOL

I just had this idea, and I wanted to see if anyone else tried it. Looks better than expected, and your video definitely pointed me in the right direction!
By any chance, would it also work to leave the black lines the natural color of the birch? I tend to like the light colored holly better, but if you’ll see the stain bleeding into the lighter lines, it’s probably not the right move. Thanks much!
Hi Brian, I would definitely use the frog tape and a gel stain for the thin lines. Those are the critical details to prevent or minimalize the bleeding. If you do get a little bleeding you can sand it with fine sandpaper say 120 grit. Good luck, let me know how it goes!
Looks great but my OCD has kicked in with the hatch key not lining up with the faux caulking lines. Love your channel by the way. This is not meant as a criticism of your work rather my crippling OCD.
Hi Cameron. Lol. Yes me too. I lined the hatch ring up to be perpendicular to the cut edge of the hatch. The black lines were supposed to be continuous from the room extending into the hallway. So when it came time for me to cut the hatch I realized that I should have done that differently. If I remake it... I am going to have the hatch line up with the lines and then the latch will naturally align itself. If you notice on the one I show building earlier in the video they are all lined up -so to speak-. -Corey
Quick question about the birch ply....I like your idea and might do it in mine. Are you planning on sealing it with some coats of epoxy paint on the edges and bottom for moisture/mold issues and easy cleaning? Good job...looks clean!!
Hi There! Thank you! Yes, I installed wood cleats for the cut out to rest on. In the video they are white. You can cover them with epoxy paint or a few coats of polyurethane. I would still sand the poly smooth and put a coat of finishing wax on the underside like I do with all polyurethane finishing. Overall it’s a pretty easy, fast project, especially if you have a nice pattern like I did! Hope this helps! Corey
let me now how long that last over all , and if you can paint over Minvax with epoxy with not peeling ?
Hi there! This process is no different than refinishing a floor, only in this case we are starting with a bare wood and not sanding it down first. The products are designed for longevity and heavy foot traffic. As for the epoxy overcoat... I think you are asking if you can use epoxy over the stain.... rather than the polyurethane. I have used epoxy over minwax stain and it seemed okay however you will want to allow for a lengthy dry time for the stain prior to applying epoxy. If you are planning this for exterior use, epoxy would be a better choice. Always test it small scale first! Good luck. -Corey

Hi Tracie! How are you guys? We thought about Vinyl but we wanted to keep with the classic boat floor appearance. I thought, for sure, there would be a vinyl plank type flooring that would accommodate us but we couldn’t find one. Oh well, this option turned out better than we expected! Hopefully moving onboard soon. -Cheers, Corey
