Kinda pissed ngl. The ape brains over at Atlus delayed SMTV in Canada cause they apparently don't know how to ship video games. The entire world is getting SMT V on the 12th while me in my igloo will have to wait till the 16th.
I was just asking on Macca's video when your next one was coming out. Good work, bro. About time. We need your take because you don't have time for flowery bullshit. You just want to play a good game. Keep it up.
The issue isn't people comparing SMT to Persona, it's insisting that Persona is not only the standard but that being any different from Persona makes the game worse.
It's almost like they don't even know that smt predates persona lmao. Low key you could argue pokemon wouldn't exist without smt collecting demons collecting pocket monsters mmmmh.

Average Persona fans: "I've played all 5 persona main entry, which is Persona 5, Royal, Strikers, Dancing Starlight, and Smash Ultimate" Should've changed 'played' with 'watched' but i guess youtube is a console if you tried hard enough.
"SMT IV is the Dark Souls of Persona" Game journalism hasn't progressed an inch since then, huh. When you bite into an apple expecting the taste of an orange, it's not the apple's fault you didn't get what taste you wanted.
@@dush.1746 i mean saying it's the dark souls of jrpg because hard is not the right answer. You might say Nocturne feels like dark souls because of the atmosphere, or the way the story is told, or in how most NPC treat you like shit. However, I'd like to say 2 things : -Nocturne came out before Dark Souls, so one might say that Dark Souls is the Nocturne of Action RPG. -Dark Souls is a RPG. Dark Souls is developed by FS, a Japanese company. Thus Dark Souls is a JRPG (Japanese RPG). So the expression Dark Souls of JRPG makes no sense. You still might say Dark Souls of turn-based RPG.
One thing I always find funny about the Persona comparisons is that every time it's done, they almost always only ever bring up Persona 5 and none of the other Persona games. Not 3, rarely 4, never 1 or the 2s, just 5. It's starting to feel like the only exposure to Persona these people have had were from Joker in Smash.
@@Donkam_haurder the latest installment shouldn't guide the entire review tho if they wanna bring up Persona why not bring up topics that are similar or different between both series and not just 1 game in a franchise? The reviewer's only exposure to Atlus was coincidentally only P5/Royal and a bit of P4G, and they just put her there since apparently she was the only one in IGN who wanted to review it

Or perhaps a better comparison "I'm not going to criticize Super Mario World because Yoshi's Island lets me flutter jump"
I will say I wasn't a fan of the Persona spam but the fanbase does have an issue with Perzona and have gone out of out of way to dunk on it. I am in SMT groups where Persona talk is banned on certain days and constantly jokes made about Persona games and fans are a running theme. SMT fandom does have a toxicity problem and does get a little tick Persona is mention around SMT. I mean there is a reason on reviews not mentioning Persona the comments are, "Finally a review of SMT 5 not mentioning Persona 5!" And don't give me, "Well everyone is toxic a little!" This is a common problem with the fandom that has me concern. Even videos on this highlight. how SMT fans get. If you think, "calling them out" is holding then accountable or taking them task; you are proving them right by your response. Also yes some SMT fans do get pissed at hearing Persoma doing well. Not with all of this said, I do have an issur with the Perzona 5 spam as Dad makes mention it tells you nothing about the game itself as even if you haven't played all of them SMT and Persona are very different games. They share some things but go about it differently.
Here I'm hoping SMT 6 doesn't use high school setting People call it edgier Persona, but don't you know SMT started with dudes roaming nuked tokyo and a gladiator struggle in city ruled by angels? It's entirely different thing bar the demon summoning and RPG. Even if the first Megaten games did use highschool setting it's more of 80' horror story than anything.
Well, I don't really think it's even possible for mainline SMT game to use this type of setting. Like, themes of creation and destruction of the world, and cosmic Law and Chaos is too global for school setting. Even if they will use it, it will be something like "SMT if..." - not really a "school" setting.
The protagonist is the Nahobino, the Mysterious being is Aogami, you learn that in the trailer or in the first few minutes of real gameplay of the game *IF* you actually pay attention. Pretty telling of those reviewers who got that wrong if we are being honest.

I hope i could clear up what i meant with my first comment and i do hope you have a pleasent day.
I don't feel fans of SMT are gatekeeping at all. Rather, I feel they want the game to get more popularity so we can expect more SMT games in the future!
Yea and these negative ass attacks on the entire fanbase and negative comparisons to persona tonally will turn new players off especially if they don’t even know persona. Lazy reviews that don’t do a good job reviewing the game itself. After 130 hours with this game on 4th cycle I feel like the handful of bad reviews were way off base.
@@nikowashington3313 That's not really it. They're not upset because it's not as popular as Persona. They're upset because people often look down on SMT because they compare it to Persona and expect it to be like Persona. And reviews like IGN is just adding more fuel to that fire. People don't generally care that Persona is more popular. People are free to like what they want. People do care about SMT constantly being in the shadow of Persona though, despite them being quite different games. And should be treated as such. It's like any new Souls like game will ALWAYS be compared to Dark Souls no matter what even if they seperate themselves from Dark Souls. It's just a generally unhealthy way for it to be. Because as long as it's like that, new innovations will just be overlooked and dismissed.
Some complaints, like “fighting the same enemies over and over,” can be applied to Persona as well, and this is coming from someone who hasn’t played SMT yet, but has played Persona. If you’re wondering if I’ll “play a real Shen Megoomy Tensay game,” I’ll be glad to try out Shin Megami Tensei 5 this Christmas. Edit: I’ve started playing SMT5, and I gotta say, I like how open it is compared to Persona. I also think Press Turns are a much better battle system than Persona’s One More system. The music is also fantastic, which isn’t a surprise, since this is Atlus. Edit 2: Call me a baby if you must, but I’m playing the game on casual, because I’m not a fan of getting my ass kicked, and losing a ton of progress. Didn’t stop me from getting slaughtered by some normal encounters, though.
Fighting the same enemies over and over on a game with a 200+ bestiary, bruuuuuhhh ! ! ! That's more than a lot of pokemon games offer on a single entry without using pokebanks and stuff.
Hearing the SMT main series being compared to Persona is like hearing the Pokemon main series being compared to Mystery Dungeon... As much as i love Persona, it's an entirely different beast, even if some themes, designs and characters can be the same. And there is no shame in liking one series but not the other! I personally like SMT, but LOVE Persona, but i can understand anyone who has it the other way around, or even dislike one while loving the other...
SMT fans is so elitist, & edgy, they think they are superior than the sequel cuz their games is a main series, they don't like to be compared to persona, like cmon bro, both is a come from the same company, had the same monster shape and name, you played as silent highschool protag, turn base rpg, same skill name like zio, agi, sukunda etc, the difference between persona and smt is social link
It's hard to live up to Persona. Not only are the characters so amazing, there are such deep psychological themes at work that make the game not only a work of art, but also a work akin to literature or film.
@@jimtepedino9295 oh please, that shit is elementary. Those are Themes you find in Disney cartoons. That’s not a dig on cartoons. Just saying. You need to read more Or watch better films. Both are great games btw.
I think it needs to be pointed out that huge gaming publications like ign unfortunately have sway over development teams. Allot of designers in the industry receive bonuses based on the metacritic score of the game. So when a journalist starts saying megten does not feel enough like persona, the fan base get a little worried the developers may actually listen to them when developing the next game. I like the isolation and the religious themes, I like the exploration and the side content. Persona is cool but I'm pushing 40 I'm not really the biggest fan of high school dating sims.

@@monchete9934 Hoenn is an island, its supposed to have a lot water, like thats the setting. The problem my friend lies with how they worded it, "Too much water" can be easily changed to annoying to traverse, or poorly designed, and they wouldn't have gotten flack from the Pokemon community then. Imagine a game set in a city, and the place has a confusing layout, I could say that the map is poorly designed, but instead I am going to say "Too much buildings" or "Too much road". You get my point right? Like I understand what they were going for there, constantly running into Tentacools and going in and out of surf can get annoying, that's a valid criticism.
Me, to game journalists: "You say 'SMT5 is Persona without the heart'. *I* say 'Persona is the SMT spinoff without the balls'. We are not the same." (Love both arms of the franchise, by the way, SMT *and* Persona rule!)
So, funny situation here: I actually wrote one of the articles featured in this video.... technically. Before you get mad at me I just wanted to say that the article I *actually* wrote ended up being different to the one that was published. It was a completely neutral piece comparing modern Persona, and the mainline numbered SMT games from a mechanical and narrative perspective, basically noting the slight similarities and major differences to give modern Persona fans diving into V as their first SMT game an objective perspective, as opposed to "Persona without heart" or whatever. The article ended up being changed, with some additional sentences, a new paragraph, an altered title, and an alerted final paragraph to make it more.... clickbaity? Stand off-ish? Idk what the right term would be, but basically my article got twisted into something I didn't want it to be, and now my name is attached to it 🙃 So FWIW, even if a lot of game journalism can be shitty, sometimes the blame can be on an editor as well. Anyway, hope you all enjoy SMT V. I can't wait!
@@mfc0511 I'd rather not try and prove this for obvious reasons. I respect your apprehension in believing me, but I'm hesitant to get into anymore specifics. Yeah, I played Persona and loved it. I never played SMT but wanted to try it on switch so I tried looking up reviews and every review would compare persona to SMT. They also mentioned how the story wasn’t the best which is what I’m very into. Due to this I was a little nervous on purchasing SMT and I am here to say that even though I am two hours in. There is PLENTY of Story. The story gives off an outstanding mystery on what happened to Tokyo due to its destruction in just a day. Another thing to add is that this story is based on your choices so there multiple endings to this story. I did watch this guys review and I think when he was talking about the story not being that great he was mainly talking about how you don’t become close with the characters right away which I can agree BUT it just adds more to the mystery when the destruction of Tokyo happens. I’m just here to say if you are someone like me who hasn’t played a SMT game and all these reviews are confusing you or making you doubt on playing the game, I’m here to say that it’s totally worth picking up and trying it 😍💕
@@V2ULTRAKill In all honesty, neither series is really known for a "good" story and I don't think either has a narrative masterpiece as a target during development. But it's serviceable and carries the games through well enough, the biggest difference being Persona being more character focused, while SMT is more focused on larger concepts and themes. Persona is: Schoolkids kill god. This is who they were and what they felt during it. SMT is: Schoolkid kills god. Which god did they kill and why?
@@GameTimeNLL honestly thank you!!! I looked into your recommendations and honestly looks amazing so def planning on picking them up!, thank you so much💕💕☺️
I kinda agree about the SMT gatekeeping though. Definitely been around the community long enough to see people interested in SMT coming from P5 be hammered & ragged on for even bringing P5 up. Also, even though they're different games, there's way more similarities between the 2 series than some fans want to admit. SMT V & Persona often have more similarities than sequel entries in the same exact franchise. Doesn't mean they're the same or should be judged based off each other, but seems like both sides of the argument have doubled down to a point where nobody is speaking from reality...just emotion & reaction *(which you definitely touched upon)*
Yeah, generalizations are fucking obnoxious but so is ignoring flaws that are there. I mean, look at the Megaman fanbase. Most of their spin-offs have their own dedicated fanbases yet they get along quite well and encourage each other to play the other series.
This video sums perfectly the recent controversy: Judging SMT V by its comparison with Persona 5 is not only wrong but harmful because new players might be easily misguided believing the game is just average because it was reviewed in an unfair way. Shielding your own undefendable riview by pointing the finger against the so called "toxic" fanbase is also a no go. If someone were to judge Kingdom Hearts by a comparison with Final Fantasy every brain-having human being would complain and that doesn't make them "toxic", it only makes the reviewer incompetent. The fandom itself needs to point out the wrongdoings of the reviews, going berserk mode doesn't really help and as said before it makes for a brilliant defence for the bad reviewers themselves that can easily play the "victim card". Jornos should really put an effort in their research, some bluntly errors are that embarrassing to read.
9:48, well i must say that showtimes weren't an actual fun thing when looking at it gameplay wise, they're more like an automatic win button, which you also have almost no control. The unstable shadows, uuhhhhh, i forgot about them less than halfway into the game, also an automatic win button, but with a little more strategy, however once you kill them the battle is almost if not over already due to their explosion damage. These mechanics were very cool presentation wise, but lacked in adding more depth to the combat. On the other hand, The magatsuhi skills are amazing even if you exclude every one of them exept the crit skill just because it still isn't a free damage button, you do have better damage and free turns but you still have to consider other parts of the gameplay. (missing, draining, reflecting can make you waste this chance if you aren't careful since they last one turn, so even tough you're powered, if you play brain dead, you're still gonna get your ass handed to you) Also, Unlike showtimes, there is a progression. You have basically little control of them at the start of the game, but with miracles you can make the meter go up very fast by being strategic and playing well (exploiting weakness, reflecting or draining attacks and guarding at the right times), that makes it much more fun, since you can actually have an effect on the mechanic. Lastly, showtimes were only usable by the player side, giving them an advantage. The magatsuki skills might also be used by the enemies, that might seem bad until you remember that even tough it's a very powerful move, it can always be punished if you play your cards right. That's the beauty of SMT combat, every side of the battle has the same tools, so the battle almost always comes down to who can better use what they have avaliable.
I was in college and bought “Nocturne” when it came out. And a few years later, when I saw a game called “Shin Megame Tensei: Persona 3” on the game shelves, I gave it a try because it was part of the “SMT” series. (At least I thought it was at the time). If it hadn’t been marketed like that, I honestly don’t know if I would have given it a try. Because neither “Nocturne” or “Persona” was getting much coverage at the time. (I only found out about “Nocturne” because the art style caught my eye and the short paragraph about it in “EGM” magazine had me interested because the story was so much darker than other JRPG’s of the time).
came here from your latest video on smtv and man this must be a bit awkward now lol but i like that you straight up acknowledged it in that vid (smt without the heart lmao)
Personally, I enjoy persona more, but still love smtv. I love persona for the characters and story and soundtrack, but I love smt for its compelling and hardcore gameplay as well as the world. The both have really strong things going for it. Why can’t people see that 😭
This is the reason i ignore what everyone says, and DON'T wait for reviews! Had i gone with what reviews said, i would have at least 3 games in my top 10 games of all time that i would never have played. And they also screwed me out of money, with both normal people and reviewers telling me a game was the best game of all time, but i ended up hating it... Skyrim, Dark Souls, League of Legends and Minecraft are just some of the games i was told were amazing, and even if i can't fault the quality of the games, they just weren't for me, and i felt like i had wasted my time and money when i bought them! So i always go into a new game without knowing anything about it first, just to make the thought i have on the game as personal and uninfluenced by outside sources...
@@_CrimsonBlade maybe learn to read before going after me like that... I said that i don't care about reviews when i choose what games to try, and it's only after i decide for myself what i think of a game that i watch reviews to learn more about what other people have to say...
You should have the insight to be able to tell what games you will generally enjoy versus dislike versus buying. Reviews are just there to help you zero in on the idea. Not convince you if they are specifically perfect for everyone or not
I just wait because I want to know the technical quality of the game. Are there annoying glitches and bugs? Does the framerate drop into single digits? Are there tons of mtx? I don't trust game journalists to recognize good writing if it bit them in the asscheeks.
my favorite part was one screenshot you highlighted about 'admitting and acknowledging that *some things aren't for everyone* ' but those same people want SMT to be Persona SO BAD

There's nothing wrong with comparing SMT V with Persona 5, because they actually are more similar than most people think. The problem is that the reviewer put fault on SMT V for not being like Persona.
Reminds me of back when games were making the jump to 3D and 2D games were getting lower scores purely because they weren't 3D. I also just find this funny since SMT came first and Persona is the side series.
I actually played Persona and SMT games, love both series for exactly what they are. This is a great video rebuttal to all that is shit with mainstream game journalism. The bad ones tries to use clever play on words or passive aggressive reasoning in their reviews that make them sound like idiots. Credibility is nonexistent at times. Great job and very entertaining!👍🏻
The regrettable thing is that a lot of these individual journalists don’t deserve the dehumanization they receive regardless of how ass a review they did might’ve been. At the end of the day they too are usually fucked by the publication because it has no one else to do a review but has to get one out by embargo time so they end up being assigned one from a series they’ve never even played. Which imo isn’t necessarily even a bad thing, someone who isn’t an established SMT fanboy reviewing one is actually intriguing for me as someone who also isn’t but is interested in the game. But when they spend most of the review just making useless observations and comparisons I literally get nothing out of it. But hell even the backlash to Jose Otero’s infamous “too much water” review of ORAS imo is totally blown out of proportion and I 100% defend his tact in standing behind it and not caving to the pokemon fan base. Which leads to my issue with the critics of video game critics. I mostly agree with them but most lack the ability to rationally analyze journalist integrity as gamers are driven by strong emotions and will hate pretty much any that they simply disagree with instead of judging the actual quality of the review.
2:34 I think the main problem with this one is the framing; you take out the mention of the word "persona" and it's mostly fine. It'd translate to "I don't like the characters in this game (or seemingly lack of at times), I don't like the story, and I don't like the soundtrack." The implication from the game reviewer is "I just think Persona 5 is better" which is fine really; everyone has their own preferences. Also when you don't get what you're expecting you tend to think worse of a product for it regardless of whether it deserves that ire; that could be happening with some of these reviews.
Lol. I actually just got into smt like 2 months ago so I’m excited. I already know I’m gonna love this game, which is why i don’t bother with the reviews from major journalists. I’ll listen to people who actually know the franchise.
I am a SMT fanboy but I just really disagree with the over exaggeration by the fan base of the difference between SMT and Persona. They reuse the same monsters, they reuse the same battle mechanics (more or less), they can have the same art style, they can have the same corridor dungeon exploration… the comparison by normies of the two are valid. The themes are different, sure, but to scoff at any type of comparison ignores how much of both games is in combat.
While there are similarities between the two franchises, most of those similarities are pretty surface level. From the way that SMT handles it's characters and world, it's more complex dungeons, it's combat systems, the themes that it tackles all serve to differentiate it from Persona. Even the art style is only superficially similar, being that both games share a general anime aesthetic. To borrow a quote from someone else; if you bite into an apple expecting to taste an orange, it isn't the apple's fault that you didn't get what you wanted. Besides that, these aren't "normies" to begin with, they are journalists. I don't think it's wrong to expect that they at least be able to judge a game on its own merits.
I have been hopping into SMTVV lately, and I just gotta say, this game has so much heart and soul. SMTV is my first mainline SMT game from Persona, and I feel it has been an amazing introduction so far. I feel like both series are good, they both scratch different itches and can coexist.
I think they like stirring the pot for clicks at this point. Its sad the content creators do more extensive research than they do. I'm looking forward to playing the game made by the folks who did Persona 5 tomorrow haha.
In retrospect it's crazy how they acted like Persona comparisons were inevitable when Persona is just ONE of the many Megaten spinoffs with turn based gameplay. If shoving a spinoff series into our faces was so necessary, where the fuck were the comparisons to Devil Summoner, Devil Survivor, or hell even Demikids? It just shows their narrowminded expectations of what SMT5 could EVER be when they act like Persona could be their ONLY point of reference. Journalists ignoring previous SMT mainline titles in favor of bringing up Persona says it all.

@@BigMoney398 I mean yeah you can…, My point is that complaining about how one game isn’t like that other in a separate franchise essentially doesn’t help either franchise because of the expectations that the consumer may have and how that will disappoint them and that it will muddy the waters for them

As someone who didn't really fuck with P5 until the Royal content all these reviews don't really say anything except. "if you like P5 you might like this? Maybe not tho, but if you don't like P5 then who the fuck knows".
i think the true issue is that these "journalists" engage with the games they review on an extremely superficial level and they don't have the self-awareness to identify why one stimuli released dopamine for them and the other didn't. Persona 5 is pure fast food media. it's flashy, stylish, great music, an extremely simplistic story one can follow on autopilot, nonexistent difficulty; but its style and atmosphere is truly wonderful and it's a game that feels GOOD to be in. i certainly still am soothed by "Beneath The Mask - Rain - 10 Hours" every other day; but does P5 immerse the player through its gameplay systems? no. does it raise interesting questions and examine issues in its narrative? no; in fact, it does a gross disservice to serious topics like sexual abuse by bringing them up for the sake of their invocation alone, without engaging with them or examining them at all. and ohhh, let's not even talk about character development when it comes to P5. the game asks nothing of the player. it requires no investment, it forces no thought, no tough decisions, no strategy in gameplay, no ways to be creative using the gameplay systems; there's really no game there. at the end of the day, it's a very safe, predictable, teen magic anime, punctuated by hours of a Fisher-Price JRPG combat system bereft of difficulty and strategy (and by extension, creativity, fun-through-gameplay, or investment.) with all that being said, i'm someone who was really taken by the vibe and cohesive style of P5 when i first played it, and i hold a lot of love for it. but thanks to my ability as an adult human bean to INTROSPECT and ANALYZE WHY i like the game, i'm able to realize that i loved the visual style, music, and aesthetic of the game - but the narrative itself was laughably bad and the game *as a game* was almost nonexistent. i don't think most IGN reviewers possess the self-awareness to come to that realization. we know these writers don't do any background research, familiarize themselves with previous games, etc, but it becomes astoundingly clear that they have no grasp of self-examination - and self-examination is the kernel of all artistic criticism or review in ANY field. ooooooh wee. i say all this to say - these reviewers are so taken with P5 because it flashes stylish imagery at them and has a nice soundtrack. they engage with these games on that level. half of these journalists seem to not want to play video games in the first place, and P5 is perfect for them. there's no pesky "difficulty" to get in the way of the credits and a finished review. there's no darn gameplay systems that have to be learned, no plot that requires actual attention or engagement, no larger issues examined by the narrative. it's a cute movie that make me feel happie! :)
I think Atlus making the shadows in P5 the actual Demons from SMT and adding a watered down negotiation system from SMT made the games look too similar. It ended up making newcomers thinking SMT is the spinoff but it's the other way around. The attempt to make new SMT fans through P5 kinda backfired.
what makes them look even dumber is that SMT is still way more popular in japan its only in the west that persona became more popular and it took the 5th entry in the franchise to do it
It's like Fallout but in Tokyo and mutants have been replaced by demons. Really sucks that you can't do drugs and there are no 50's music. But the jumping mechanic is nice, Bethesda could learn a little bit. 5/10
I played persona 5, royal and persona 4 on pc for a bit. I love the games and was hyped for SMT5.
I mean there is a reason on reviews not mentioning Persona the comments are, "Finally a review of SMT 5 not mentioning Persona 5!"
And don't give me, "Well everyone is toxic a little!" This is a common problem with the fandom that has me concern.

If you want to play a smt game with more story try smt 4 on 3ds. (my personal favourite).
@@GameTimeNLL honestly thank you!!! I looked into your recommendations and honestly looks amazing so def planning on picking them up!, thank you so much💕💕☺️
Shin megami tensei V, is my first game into the series. I just bought it cus it looked cool, and it turns out it is fun
it's gonna be my first in the main series too, my first one is P1 which I liked because of the demon negotiations
GameXplain did a pretty good review, one of the few bigger reviewers that I actually liked
KatanaRikku did it right? They were waiting for the game, so they knew what they were getting into
I kinda agree about the SMT gatekeeping though.
Why not both, religious themes and high school aren't mutually exclusive.
Yeah, comparing the two is definitely valid and should be *encouraged*. Buuut IGN’s reviewer definitely went overboard with it I think we can agree.
@@JoshLeitzel Absolutely agree, even though I think Kotaku's review was even more bizarre lol
Naw bringing up P5 to SMT fans is rude af.
Yeah, generalizations are fucking obnoxious but so is ignoring flaws that are there. I mean, look at the Megaman fanbase. Most of their spin-offs have their own dedicated fanbases yet they get along quite well and encourage each other to play the other series.
Man, it's been awhile when I tuned into one of your videos and got the raw sensation of you spittin' facts. Good stuff.
Persona is a SPIN OFF SERIES, for the love of god. They were NEVER meant to be the same game.
it's because they view it the other way around
There is no problem in comparing SMT and Persona, problem is to consider it's bad that one is not like other
This video sums perfectly the recent controversy:
Judging SMT V by its comparison with Persona 5 is not only wrong but harmful because new players might be easily misguided believing the game is just average because it was reviewed in an unfair way.
It is my favorite meme this week to call P5 SMT 5 with Heart, and SMT 5 P5 w/o Heart.

On the other hand,
The magatsuhi skills are amazing even if you exclude every one of them exept the crit skill just because it still isn't a free damage button, you do have better damage and free turns but you still have to consider other parts of the gameplay. (missing, draining, reflecting can make you waste this chance if you aren't careful since they last one turn, so even tough you're powered, if you play brain dead, you're still gonna get your ass handed to you)
Also, Unlike showtimes, there is a progression.
Everyone thinks you're the older brother! I'M THE OLDER BROTHER!
Why can’t people see that 😭
"persona without the heart" bruh jack frost is RIGHT THERE, what else do you want?
You ignore them unless they kiss the games ass and praise it if you don't care what any one says why are you here
@@_CrimsonBlade maybe learn to read before going after me like that... I said that i don't care about reviews when i choose what games to try, and it's only after i decide for myself what i think of a game that i watch reviews to learn more about what other people have to say...
@@skynet0912 games shit the end
"MARIO KART IS LIKE SUPER MARIO BROS WITHOUT THE HEART!!!"
Persona: defeat demons with power of friendship
SMT: Sacrifice your friends for the power of Satan.
"Without the potent soundtrack"
Excuse me wtf??
There's nothing wrong with comparing SMT V with Persona 5, because they actually are more similar than most people think. The problem is that the reviewer put fault on SMT V for not being like Persona.
Like : "SMT V is bad cuz is doesn't have social links" bruh...
And calling it persona younger brother lol
They're similar cause persona is a smt game
When IGN references Persona 5 during their review of SMT5:

Reminds me of back when games were making the jump to 3D and 2D games were getting lower scores purely because they weren't 3D. I also just find this funny since SMT came first and Persona is the side series.
SMT is the Dark Souls of the Persona games.
SMT is the persona of dark souls
Persona a smt game though
I actually played Persona and SMT games, love both series for exactly what they are. This is a great video rebuttal to all that is shit with mainstream game journalism. The bad ones tries to use clever play on words or passive aggressive reasoning in their reviews that make them sound like idiots. Credibility is nonexistent at times. Great job and very entertaining!👍🏻
Ok but when are you gonna talk about DMC

for once he will have good taste
hopefully never (unless it's DMC1)
Outro music is straight fire🔥🔥🔥
So hype when I see a video. Simplydad’s content is always really good
2:34 I think the main problem with this one is the framing; you take out the mention of the word "persona" and it's mostly fine.
Great video and love your editing style!
The newest review from Metro Uk: ,,Shin Megami Tensei 5 review - Persona from Hell'' 7/10
Lol. I actually just got into smt like 2 months ago so I’m excited. I already know I’m gonna love this game, which is why i don’t bother with the reviews from major journalists. I’ll listen to people who actually know the franchise.
Facts bro
I got at the beginning of the year, I'm playing Digital Devil Saga now
(My laptop isn't enjoying it at all)
I am a SMT fanboy but I just really disagree with the over exaggeration by the fan base of the difference between SMT and Persona.
Not even the same team actually.
When Daddy uploads a video, its a good day.
Seems they're butthurt the review copies didn't ship with a "troglodyte game reviewer," difficulty and actually had to try in this game.
Great music in your videos, I love some of the gran turismo tracks you use, and I’ve heard ridge racer in there too!
Which Gran Turismo OST did he use? I’m about to put some of them on my playlist
Hi
Thank you for adding Gran Turismo 4 background song in your video here, hehehe
very nostalgic indeed
I heard the Gran Turismo 4 theme, knew I was in good hands for this one
In retrospect it's crazy how they acted like Persona comparisons were inevitable when Persona is just ONE of the many Megaten spinoffs with turn based gameplay. If shoving a spinoff series into our faces was so necessary, where the fuck were the comparisons to Devil Summoner, Devil Survivor, or hell even Demikids? It just shows their narrowminded expectations of what SMT5 could EVER be when they act like Persona could be their ONLY point of reference. Journalists ignoring previous SMT mainline titles in favor of bringing up Persona says it all.
I'm really glad she made a review that is super useful to people that haven't played Persona 5.
Hidden gem of a channel, hope you upload more
I love persona 4 and 5 but I actually want to try this game out so bad cause it looks so good

I’m going to buy SMTV simply because I’ve heard so much good about it from RUclipsrs and well it was made by Atlus.
I don’t care about the SL and life-simulator aspects (although I do like them) because if I want to play a Persona game…. I’ll play a Persona game 🤷♂️
I expect to see differences. And I welcome them. SMTV looks ‘edgy’ to someone who’s used to the lightheartedness of Persona. I would know…. My favorite Persona game is P4
But I’ll be open minded when trying this game becuase it’ll be my first SMT game. And if I don’t like it. I simply won’t play it. And if I do enjoy it, great. I have another franchise to look forward to 👍
That's a good-ass mentality you got there boy, hope you'll like it, I have 14 h on the game and I can't take my mind out of it.
It’s good bought it today
The first 3 (4 if you count the Persona 2 games as separate titles) Persona games aren't even that lighthearted imo.
Play it....
Don't let people controll ur taste....
Coming from someone who played p3, p3p, p4 and p5, Smtv is my first smt game. Although I prefer persona due to the social sim aspects, I understand that smt is a totally different beast and focuses more on the rpg aspects
I just finished SMTV last weekend and it was immensely satisfying (gameplay-wise compared to the story)
Judging by their logic, what is the point of having Persona, if SMT gives you the same exact experience but with different paint?
Can't you just argue the exact opposite of what you said?
@@BigMoney398 I mean yeah you can…, My point is that complaining about how one game isn’t like that other in a separate franchise essentially doesn’t help either franchise because of the expectations that the consumer may have and how that will disappoint them and that it will muddy the waters for them
@@BigMoney398 nah becouse shin megami was before , so by their logic persona would never been created
These reviews are wild solely cuz they only cater to people who like P5 and not even the Persona series as a whole or better yet SMT. As someone who didn't really fuck with P5 until the Royal content all these reviews don't really say anything except.

@@SimplyDad All is well, just watching the world burn from the amala network. You doing great work as always I see.
i think the true issue is that these "journalists" engage with the games they review on an extremely superficial level and they don't have the self-awareness to identify why one stimuli released dopamine for them and the other didn't.
Persona 5 is pure fast food media. it's flashy, stylish, great music, an extremely simplistic story one can follow on autopilot, nonexistent difficulty; but its style and atmosphere is truly wonderful and it's a game that feels GOOD to be in. i certainly still am soothed by "Beneath The Mask - Rain - 10 Hours" every other day; but does P5 immerse the player through its gameplay systems? no. does it raise interesting questions and examine issues in its narrative? no; in fact, it does a gross disservice to serious topics like sexual abuse by bringing them up for the sake of their invocation alone, without engaging with them or examining them at all. and ohhh, let's not even talk about character development when it comes to P5. the game asks nothing of the player. it requires no investment, it forces no thought, no tough decisions, no strategy in gameplay, no ways to be creative using the gameplay systems; there's really no game there. at the end of the day, it's a very safe, predictable, teen magic anime, punctuated by hours of a Fisher-Price JRPG combat system bereft of difficulty and strategy (and by extension, creativity, fun-through-gameplay, or investment.)
with all that being said, i'm someone who was really taken by the vibe and cohesive style of P5 when i first played it, and i hold a lot of love for it. but thanks to my ability as an adult human bean to INTROSPECT and ANALYZE WHY i like the game, i'm able to realize that i loved the visual style, music, and aesthetic of the game - but the narrative itself was laughably bad and the game *as a game* was almost nonexistent. i don't think most IGN reviewers possess the self-awareness to come to that realization. we know these writers don't do any background research, familiarize themselves with previous games, etc, but it becomes astoundingly clear that they have no grasp of self-examination - and self-examination is the kernel of all artistic criticism or review in ANY field. ooooooh wee.
i say all this to say - these reviewers are so taken with P5 because it flashes stylish imagery at them and has a nice soundtrack. they engage with these games on that level. half of these journalists seem to not want to play video games in the first place, and P5 is perfect for them. there's no pesky "difficulty" to get in the way of the credits and a finished review. there's no darn gameplay systems that have to be learned, no plot that requires actual attention or engagement, no larger issues examined by the narrative. it's a cute movie that make me feel happie! :)
I was just thinking of SMT V and you uploaded this vid 💀

I think Atlus making the shadows in P5 the actual Demons from SMT and adding a watered down negotiation system from SMT made the games look too similar. It ended up making newcomers thinking SMT is the spinoff but it's the other way around. The attempt to make new SMT fans through P5 kinda backfired.
what makes them look even dumber is that SMT is still way more popular in japan its only in the west that persona became more popular and it took the 5th entry in the franchise to do it
I thought Persona was bigger in Japan too?
why would they talk about japanese trends while writing in english/spanish/etc to a western audience
lol XD I feel like there should be more mentions of TMS in these SMTV reviews XD
This game feels a lot like call of duty 4 but without the amazing shooting sections or the beautiful war story. Atlus really missed the mark here.
It's like Fallout but in Tokyo and mutants have been replaced by demons. Really sucks that you can't do drugs and there are no 50's music. But the jumping mechanic is nice, Bethesda could learn a little bit. 5/10
0:14 this one took me a second to notice the problem lol
I played persona 5, royal and persona 4 on pc for a bit. I love the games and was hyped for SMT5. I have played it for a bit and while I'm not a fan of how the game starts, the game is still fun at least and I can understand that it doesn't need to be like persona cuss their both different series and both of them are great in their own ways
Spoiler~~~~ maybe.
Are you talking about how fast you get sent to the Netherworld? It is pretty jarring if that's what you're referring to. Kinda just went from school to hell in like 4 minutes.
I think that the SMT fandom and content creators in it encouraged me, someone who started with Persona 5, to try out the series and it's different gameplay elements. I didn't go into SMT IV expecting "Persona but on the 3DS", I went in expecting a great RPG and I wasn't disappointed. Now I enjoy the SMT series WAY more than Persona.
What's the song played at the end of your video? It's sounds catchy
