- Assembly instruction of the ground surfaces around the industries and yards. We´re also building the terrain structure for the mountains and tunnels.
- We´re building a beginners style Model Railroad from start to end in only 18 days -
The Model Railroad measures 1.5 x 2.5m (5 x 8ft) and can therefore be built in most bed- and living rooms. The trackplan geometrics are following industry standards, so you are free to chose the type of tracks you favor.

Definitelly :)... But is it really just 2x1 m in size??.. i struggle to rebuild the Layout in any rail 6 on this size mentioned in the first episode.. i only. Got 2x1m of space for my layout and struggle to design a layout..

I strongly recommend 'painting' both sides of corrugated cardboard before using it for landscape and track surface. Let the cardboard dry out. This means the cardboard will set, and warp much less when landscaping.

I have been in isolation for over a year now i would like to add is that the minature construction is a really good pastime to do during the virus pandemic when we are in isolation ...keeps your brain busy ,focused and the satisfaction that you are constructing some awesome miniature pieces or sets that will eventually become an heirloom for your family and friends to enjoy and share ...not only that but its also good for your overall well being and mental health ...in my opinion people who have some form of hobby or pastime cope better during this unfortunate time ...than those who dont ..and is a good opportunity for more people to investigate getting into this type of hobby ...stay well and take care

Great inspiration for beginners Martin and as an experienced MR modeller I enjoy following your channel. I am however disappointed with your description of the landscape foundation in episode 4. I understand that Noch is a financial supporter, but for the most of us there are a lot of more economical alternatives such as cardboard web and commercial available styrofoam sheets and plaster bandage.
Clear as KORVSPAD!!!! This layout offers model operations on an interesting level for everyone, beginners as well as profis and everything in a manegable size!
The new alpine background made a big difference. Looks great. Am really enjoying this series and all your helpful tips..

Even though I'm an O gauge model railroader, I've learned quite a bit from your videos; especially in regard to landscaping. Your tricks and tips to landscaping lend themselves across all model railroad scales/gauges.

scratching the IKEA tables top with a sharp knife with a series of repeating XXXXXs patterns will solve the PVA adhesion issue.
Thank you Martin for another installment of your project layout. It has been very interesting to see some of the European systems used for layout construction. Also, I plan on using your method for track cleaning with a wooden block. When I hand painted my track I did a small section at a time and ran a plastic edge over the rail surface before the paint dried to make cleaning easier after the paint dried. It also helped my more finicky engines if I cleaned the inner edge of the railhead. Cheers from Wisconsin!

Great video! Shall be the landscaping foil painted on inside? Looks like you may have some reflection going on inside the tunnels.... The inner tunnel will probably reduce it but I'm still hesitant to leave it that reflexive. Any hints on that? Thank you.

Hi Thomas! I will build a big wooden crate and transport it in one piece by truck.
I just stumbled on this and this is effin brilliant. I haven't thought about HO trains since I was a kid (too many years ago to admit) so knew nothing about the digital revolution and the improvements made in track systems. I was building with cork roadbed, flex track and all the issues that came with that. Will I take up the hobby again....most likely not...but I am really enjoying the creativity of this series.
A second control handle is a good idea, but isnt there an app for free, that you can use instead. That way your friends can come and run their trains on you layout without having to buy more handles ? They just bring their phones. And then you can buy a third loco😀 instead for a second handle. Help us save some money here, you used to be great at that. Anyway nice video as always ! Thanks !

Excellent Tutorial! I'm from BRAZIL. Please, where can I find / buy at WEB Backgrounds for my Layout? The theme is the same, wich means the mountainous interior of Switzerland.
The background I’m using is manufactured by German ”Vollmer”. There should be web-shops in Brazil for Model Railroad, since it’s actually a pretty popular Hobby in Brazil. You even got your own manufacturers, like Fretashi.
@@marklinofsweden Hi ,Martin .Frateschi also do New Zealand locos.Our club here in Levin runs some of these. By the way the Ikea tables are too expensive here and we have to pay freight as the nearest store is 500km north in Auckland. A lot of these materials also. I buy used on ebay or from local used items or make my own.I hope you are ok there in Sweden with Lockdown?

@@christianvitroler5289 A couple months ago it ended.Travel to Australia is now possible but some states are less safe than others,Ebay items still take 3-4 months from europe.

An incredible masterclass in building a layout!
I use contact cement for laminar joints between different materials... it's readily available, relatively inexpensive, and has a long working time. The only caveat is waiting while the two surfaces "tack up" before joining the laminates.
Im soon going to make a layout at HO scale and these videos tell me quite a bit on how to start a model railways. Thanks!
Awesome video! One of your best! Two things: I caution against using cardboard supports in climate areas where you have humidity, even though it is painted. I am a fan of wookd supports. Also all of us old guys carefully vacuum up or sweep up any stray ballast as it can be re-used and it is expensive...

Hello do you know were I can purchase the back ground you have it would look good with my lay out.
I use the wood blaok for cleaning track but I soak Acetone into the wood and it is the best track clearer I have ever used.
...little bit of van dyke brown.. yeah . i like the collor, lets brush it, and some little monunaints in the background.. 🧑🎨
Instead of using that material to clean the tracks, why can't use a train to clean the tracks when it moves. Can the wheels clean the dirt that's on the tracks.

That nice backdrop has been made by the german company Faller for ages. I saw it already in the 60 s.
They do it quite nicely. I think hes a Faller fan (resononobeal) reasonable

This is good fun to watch Martin and TBH I like your cardboard engineering which I think is very underated if you use good supports and glue. I like those Vollmer city buildings and plan to build a small town dio like Lindau in south germany. Your demo of the noch system has given me some ideas as I also have an alpine area to build like yours

When we ,make these miniature sets we want to use materials that last ...because of the amount of work that goes into them ... and the sheets to build up the base .... would it be better .... To use the type of sheet that is more long wearing ....why.... because some of the manmade material sheets may degrade after a period of years ....you put so much work into making the miniatures ...it would a shame for the base to turn brittle ,shrink,crack or to degrade over a period of years...i dont know what type of bases was used lets say 50 years ago ..... but some styrofoams or materials ....can degrade after a period of years depending what they were made of or put into them...i am sure you get my meaning .... ...its was just something i was thinking about ...also even to the type of glue or types of adhesive tape ...they lose the stickyness or dryout over a period of years ....i make dollhouse minatures ...and found some types of glue get brittle and dont hold together as well after a period of years ...and some of the furniture turns fragile and falls apart easier....idont have much experience with trainsets however ..but ..i would like to know what materials. Would be better to construct a base ..or is that an overall risk that we hobbiests take when we work and run into with these types of materials.... what ages better verses the synthetic type or what problems in your experience or research ....you may have encountered over the years .with materials degrading with age ....what would ...work the best.... .also i would like to thankyou for providing me with some good hints in making miniatures ...even though i am not into making trains ...i do appreciate the cross over applications of the miniature hobbies when i am working on my hobby ...plus alot of the materials used are similar ...... i really do like looking at the trainset construction and can see satisfaction one gets with the trainset hobby with amount of realism that goes into them ....because it gives me insight ,ideas or hints into my miniature dollhouse hobby construction as well ....thanks again

Thank you! The cardboard is not optimal in performance over time, but easy and low cost.
@@marklinofsweden so to be clear, without the cost aspect you would recommend plywood or styrofoam?
Hi again.. The selection of methods and materials for this project is optimized for a family in an apartment or house building together in a common room, like livingroom or bedroom. Meaning.. One should not be required to go out on the balkony, or in the garden to cut plywood avoiding sawdust everywhere. I would choose different materials and methods a full grown man with his own tool shop, building his layout in a large designated Train room in his house. I’m also thinking that this layout will not be around more than 4-5 years maybe, so easy build has strong priority over durability and performance.

A lot of tips for beginners.
That Terra form kit is pretty neat and could easily be 3D printed. Noch has good stuff but they know it.. I found 8 figures for $12 and ordered same ones 100ct on wish for $8.
I just want to add ....try looking on aliexpress .... they have lots of miniature architectual materials and models ..trees, folige ,mini people, scenery ,glues ...different types of LED lighting fixtures , building your mini bricks ,etc . And the mini electrical stuff as well...i just got some minature LED fancy train lamps fixtures and single mini LED lights ....20 of the them i just paid a few dollars .. was pleased at the quality . Got 20 small minit switches for a $1.00....plus shipping ...it was reasonable .i used them in making my dollhouse miniature kits better ...they have different scales of items you can get 1/24, 1/12 ....have made some 1/144 scale miniature diorama from some kits purchased there that had lights and a switch as well that came with the kit .im sure u know what i mean ...anyways .i have to admit that .shipping times vary ..i had ordered miniatures stuff there many times that have taken a few weeks to around 2 months as the shipping has been affected by the pandemic plus the distance involved in shipping ...but thats the way it is ...my overall experience has been positive...thou i did have the odd negative experience ...but did get my money returned
